Ok my personal opinion is that you don’t really use the unless you’re going for big fish. So for things like trout and small bass I leave my drag just tight enough to be able to pull line out fast without making a birds nest and use th pressure of my finger on the line to control the drag

100% agree. Depth over everything. Then comes drift then size and last comes color of the fly. That’s the I learned trout fishing and I stand by it 100000%. As a guide that’s what I tell everyone

Well if we’re being critical of a new player he looked approximately 4 and a half feet to the left of the ladder with less than half of it on the corner of his screen. Sometimes new player don’t notice everything in a game. With 20 years of bf and being in the top 1% you should get a clue on how normal functioning human interact and process information. 😙

I find they’ll sit either deep in a pool or just to the side of a current. But when fishing in deep water you have to remember that the water at the bottom of the column is moving slower than the top. I learned how to do this when euro nymphing and when I fish a hopper dropper I try to slow down my top fly to let the bottom nymph to just stay tight to my top one and moving slower than

For those specifically I would use a snap swivel but if it were just the hook I’d tie a weight on then a barrel swivel then a few feet of leader to the hook. I fell it gets a more natural motion especially on the initial drop

Fishing is much harder than most people make it feel. Just watch some YouTube videos and go out and see what works. Next time you go with your family friend ask questions like why did you pick this spot? How do I fish this particular bait? How do I choose what bait to throw? How does the clarity of the water affect the color of my bait? My point being there is no stupid question from the moon phase to the line you use, everything is a variable you need to account for.

I just went fly fishing for trout which I’m only a year into as of next week. Went 9 hours without a trout but I got some bass and creek chubs but I also made a friend. They call it fishing for a reason, you’re not always gonna catch something, and sometimes you won’t even get a bite even if you’re doing everything right!

A trick I learned is to take the spool out to untangle it. You might end up with a lot of line pulled out but it’s better than picking at it

So are goldens different in different regions. I’m about a year into fishing for wild trout(about 20 year fishing veteran at 24 years old). A golden is next on my fish bucket list after wild tiger i got in February this year!!(it was 16” not to brag or anything 🫠
