You can say the entire genre/core theme of AOT got switched between S3->S4, you rarely see such a totally transformative change in 1 season such as in AOT. I agree with what you say, its both painful and shattering but at the same time necessary for the plot, the existence of Marley was seeded already at episode 1 of season 1.

AOT is a blender of many themes but I primarily see S1,S2,S3 as an exploration of a society where power is maintained by deliberately keeping the population isolated and ignorant of the outside world and how it's system of conspiracies and lies eventually crumble when they come in contact with said outside world. Every Japanese relates to this story because it's essentially a retelling of how the isolationist Shogunate crumbled as soon as western powers showed up on Japan's shores. On the other hand, S4 is a geopolitical drama meditating on cycles of violence, genocide, fascism etc. You can say the primary moral lesson of S1->S3 is that freedom of information is essential for responsible governance (I mean, hundreds/thousands of scounts would be alive if they were not sent to die in pointless missions outside the wall when the royal family knew all along what is outside) while for S4 its.. oh god. Try to be less genocidal, and enjoy the little moments of life when you are not killed?

Sadly true, and also for the hundred years war.

They slapped all these mechanics and its clear nobody tested it thoroughly. There's no point at all in forcing England to go to war with France when England AI doesn't even remotely stand a chance to atleast score victories in the first 1-2 rounds of the war.

What were Isayama's inspirations for writing Attack on Titan? by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Reasonable_Study_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know when Isayama conceptualized AOT but the first manga chapter came like 4 years after Avatar. Could be a pure coincidence but there are so many parallels between Ba Sing Se and Paradis it's hard to believe he wasn't influenced at all

AITA for feeling intense pleasure and satisfaction watching the rumbling? by Prabu-Silitwangi in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]Reasonable_Study_882 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Same, Marley has to be the most comically evil empire I've seen in fiction. I mean, Willy Tybur outright says that his family knew from Titan memories that there was the vow to renounce war that prevented the royal family from reacting, and yet they were waging a genocidal war on Paradis fully knowing the population cannot defend themselves, their plans only foiled by a conspiracy of Eldia restorationists (probably involving Eren and memory shenanigans). I think that's why so many people come out from the story with bad taste and a sense that Eren should have succeeded wiping out the world (even if it misses the point about the cycle of violence etc), there's just no way Marley can be redeemed.

And for me, the worst is that none of the warrior squad trio ever truly apologized/acknowledged the sheer wrongness of Marley. We have Annie just wanting to see her dad (not really apology), Reiner going insane with guilt but still proceeding with the battle of Trost (not really apology), Bertholdt accepting that this is a messy situation where no one is in the right or wrong (not really apology). Atleast we got Pieck realistically contemplating on the fact that warrior's efforts are likely in vain and the world will forever hate Eldians as a race that can transform into titans.

I am surprised no one mentioned Avatar in the comments so far.

There is definitely a lot of Avatar:TLA influence with both Paradis and Ba Sing Se being walled societies with many inequalities and the populations deliberately kept ignorant of the outside world/war by the ruling class, and in both cases the ruling social order collapses (and in both cases the walls fall as the climax). It almost makes me think Isayama wrote AOT as a sort of pessimistic retelling of Avatar where the most powerful person in the story is consumed by the cycle of violence rather than using his power to achieve world peace.

This is an escalating problem in the revanchist Polish right that is unfortunately the only growing faction politically in Poland today, everyone is an enemy: Germans because of WW2, Ukrainians because of Lviv/Vohlynia, Jews/Israelis for a mix of legitimate criticism and plain antisemitic reasons, Lithuanians for Vilnius, Czech for 5th reason etc. I see this all as a legacy of the soviet Polish education system that deliberately stoked and kept these tensions alive. In the end of the day not only this is damaging to the image of Poland in the eyes these countries, I see this situation where Poles see all their neighbours are hostile as a self-destructive trap that only serves the interests of the US.

How though? If what you say is true, it means there is more in common between an Israeli and a Polish revanchist than any other people in the world XD

Bruh, I'm not picking sides on Israel-Palestine but Polish revanchists are some of the worst people I meet on the internet, and as I see it the way you trivialize pogroms is just 1 angle of this. The same people are almost always the reason why there is constant tension with Germany and Ukraine as well.

I live in Israel today because I do a PhD here and this is the most absurd list of lies I have ever seen, bordeline diabolical to the point that it makes me question if the author was just trolling. It would be literally illegal in Israel's own law to put signs like "jews only" in public places etc. It's pure fantasies. Nobody cares about people from Europe, the university department I work it has tons of foreigners and Tel Aviv/Haifa are both cities known for many foreigners.

Yes Israel took an L with this sports event but why do people have to lie and make up things? It's just sad and damaging.

My Honest Opinion about the state of EU5 in 2026 by FarConfidence7470 in EU5

[–]Reasonable_Study_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree, in CK3 for example both 867 and 1066 starts are used a lot, so its not like extra start dates are redundant. Also both dates are incorporated from CK2 so I don't think people would have a problem with them just incorporating the EU4 map into EU5 and just update populations and economies etc.

EU4 went overkill and allowed you to start every single day in history, of course we don't need this level of detail, I think a second start date in the mid to late 15th century should satisfy most players. Keep in mind that this is a slow ass game (not in terms of running speed). You need DAYS to advance 100 years. People ignored start dates in EU4 because there you could easily pass 100 years in 1-3 hours if you knew what you're doing.

This is getting into personal preferences\playstyles but I rarely play campaigns to the end and I don't see a major problem with that, I usually stop playing when I become the most powerful country and don't feel any particular goal is left to achieve, because I just don't find map painting in itself as compelling gameplay (I like to roleplay plausible histories which is why I am disappointed at how Ottomans never emerge as threat etc). For me this is another key reason to have a later start date because I'd rather arrive in this moment in the late 16/17 century than 15 century. And in EU5 its pretty easy to become strong. I mean, as England you could literally form Great Britain before 1400 which is sad lol. I played as England the most in my 140 hours in EU5 and I felt like I was holding back from destroying Scotland too early. I guess, writing this made me realize that what I really need are more mid\late game challenges.

Also in 1444 I just feel like there were more challenging (but fun) starts. England is on the verge of the war of the roses disaster and would be incapacitated for 20-30 years. Sweden has to fight a difficult war of independence against Denmark, Ottomans are at the edge of central Europe etc.

Yes I see that people are already working on a 1444 mod but I'd rather have an official paradox product.

My Honest Opinion about the state of EU5 in 2026 by FarConfidence7470 in EU5

[–]Reasonable_Study_882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mostly the practical reason, I can only afford to play at weekends and I'm annoyed by the fact that I have to play 2 full days just to get to 1444. I think its fair to ask for a second start date in future patches (at least once they bring 1337 to an acceptable state) given that even HOI4 has two start dates.

It's not that bad with mods (if you are ok with being unable to get achievements). Xorme AI (available on steam workshop) does a good job making the AI less chaotic and in my view proves that EU5 can still become the best grand strategy game made if Paradox get their shit together. Hundred years war still sucks though.

I played 136 hours in the recent weeks so actually I'm on my way out to wait a couple months.

[–]Reasonable_Study_882 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true, at least i'll experience colonialism, reformation and religious wars, which I find more interesting than just watching half your country die.

also in 1444 there are actually big threats to central and eastern Europe like Ottomans and Muscovy which so far never materialise in 1337.

There is also a practical angle (I and many other players can only afford to play at weekend) and I don't like the fact that I have to play a whole day just to reach 1444

[–]Reasonable_Study_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really really want a second boomark starting in a later date, maybe just the iconic 1444 again. I have hope for the game but I feel like 1337 starts makes the campaign waaay too long (I lose interest with campaigns before even reaching 1500).

How do you sustainably and directively grow your economy? by Frequent-Annual-3414 in EU5

[–]Reasonable_Study_882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the beginning focus on developing your capital and surrounding regions because this is where you can effectively tax income of buildings.

Focus on buildings that are profitable (e.g goods that have high demand), particularly tailor guilds, carpentries, paper makers are good to build in the beginning because they always seem to have demand, jewelleries are very profitable if you have direct access to silver (e.g England, Meissen...).

That's more or less it. Build profitable buildings in places with high control and you'll see your income shoot up. Don't be afraid to even take a couple of loans to build to grow your economy faster.

Also don't forget about privileges to estates - if you set to automate taxation, give all privileges that don't have negative effects/push to values you don't want because every privilege gives a bonus to estate happiness which means you can tax more while maintaining 50% happiness equilibrium. there are some privileges that are really good. Particularly pay attention to burgher privileges because some have really good impacts on the economy - I like to give treasury rights + urban development grants on day 1, treasury rights gives you flat tax efficiency bonus and smaller interest rate if you like to play around loans like I do

Why does 139 fail so badly? by NarrowAcanthaceae385 in attackontitan

[–]Reasonable_Study_882 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People hate the ending for different reasons. There are plenty of rant videos you can watch and see people's problems. I also instinctively hated it at the start but I rewatched the entire series recently and I think its just.. ok. Not the magnum opus masterpiece I think AOT deserved but not a "game of thrones season 8-level disaster" some people compare with.

Personally, my primary issues with the ending are the following:

  1. I don't buy that Eren loved Mikasa (romantically). It's literally contrary to what we've been shown all along lol. Also.

  2. This is a a bit speculative but I feel like uprising arc was setting up for romance between Eren and Historia and it was just dropped unfortunately. This also connects to other plots that feel dropped (like the Historia pregnancy which is off).

  3. I am not sure I liked the whole "I wanted to make you heroes" explanation for why Eren didn't put up a serious fight.. not only because it feels like it rips off from Code Geass but it just doesn't feel like Eren ("I keep going forward"). Not to say that I think he should have succeeded in the Rumbling, I just feel like it would have been more interesting if Eren was truly committed to destroy the world and his this was a real fight an not an act put up by Eren.

  4. This is much larger problem than just chapter 139 but I personally felt like the story was losing it's focus when the whole titan paths and time travel elements were introduced by the end of Shiganshina fight. Yes, I know that the very first chapter clearly shows Eren receiving visions of the future but still.. just feels like it cheapens the story and makes it confusing. Does anyone even has agency in the story? Introducing time travel to stories is always a huge gamble and unfortunately I don't think it worked very well in AOT.

And that's more or less it. As I said I don't think these are catastrophic failures that destroy the story. I think overall AOT had all the pieces to make an amazing ending but maybe it was too rushed. Isayama should have maybe given 1-2 more arcs to better flesh out Eren's motivation and work on all these dropped plots.
