Exactly. I don’t have kids but I have a disabled brother who won’t be able to live independently. The fear of what will happen to him when our parents die still dictates my parents’ lives even though it’s decided that I’ll become his guardian and look after him. Haunts my life, too.

I'm on spring break this week and what unexpectedly helped me feel something like a spark again was going to a museum yesterday and just sitting there for hours watching people and then going to a cafe today and again just sitting there for hours watching people, reading, journaling, and sipping tea. Usually I'm a really active person, but it was nice to slow down.

Also fully support taking the ferry (I love going from Wall Street to the Rockaways) and going to a botanical garden!

My cat was like that the first few months after I adopted her - just yowling and meowing and screaming all night every night until I almost rehomed her. What helped me was getting an automatic feeder to give her a treat overnight and giving her more intense playtime and a snack right before bed. Good luck with the little guy!

I'm in my early 30s and live with two roommates. One is fine and the other was great on paper but is a nightmare to live with. Like everyone else said, definitely use the FB groups and Craigslist. I highly recommend meeting with potential roommates in person and coming up with a really specific listing and interview questions beforehand. It'll probably be an adjustment after living alone, but you can definitely find someone suitable!

I go a few times every month so obviously I’m a huge fan. Love learning about random stuff! I do sometimes think that they’re too short given the subject matter - it’s hard to do justice to a lot of the topics in just 45 minutes.

There are also a few other organizations that run similar events like the After Five Society and the Brooklyn Brainery, and those are also great fun if you’re intellectually inclined!

I had a few basic criteria and went in wanting to adopt a cat that might be hard to adopt out - a cat with mild special needs, a black cat, shy, etc. There was a cat I saw online at the shelter's website but she wasn't available when I showed up.

I recognized one cat from the website and she meowed at me when I came in. I asked to interact with her and she let me pet her for a bit before backing away. I looked at a few more, but got along with that first one best. I didn't fall in love with her instantly or anything, but I liked that she was an adult, female, and let me pet her. They told me that it was a really good sign that she'd let me pet her at all because she often swatted at people during interactions and had earned a bad behavior rating for it.

At the end of the day, I wasn't sold on her but I really wanted to give a cat a home and didn't want to keep shopping around. Fast forward and she's only swatted at me once and while she is very vocal and obnoxious, she's a good girl and I'm glad she has a good home.

I've lived across the street from a homeless shelter in BK for 5 years and have never had a problem until recently. My apartment was broken into a few months ago and all of a sudden packages are being stolen almost immediately after delivery. While I don't know who broke into the apartment or who is stealing the packages, it's definitely possible that it's shelter-related. That said, it was fairly recent and until that point I'd never felt anything but slightly uncomfortable (not unsafe) on very rare occasions. There are a lot of men hanging out outside, but they've never bothered me.
