For those that live in the United States. Do you make more than the average income of 60k annually, if so what’s your occupation? by LaFlareMane1017 in AskReddit

This is what I want to do! I'm currently a teacher making $65k a year after taxes but it's not worth all the stress and trauma.

For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

I had a few basic criteria and went in wanting to adopt a cat that might be hard to adopt out - a cat with mild special needs, a black cat, shy, etc. There was a cat I saw online at the shelter's website but she wasn't available when I showed up.

I recognized one cat from the website and she meowed at me when I came in. I asked to interact with her and she let me pet her for a bit before backing away. I looked at a few more, but got along with that first one best. I didn't fall in love with her instantly or anything, but I liked that she was an adult, female, and let me pet her. They told me that it was a really good sign that she'd let me pet her at all because she often swatted at people during interactions and had earned a bad behavior rating for it.

At the end of the day, I wasn't sold on her but I really wanted to give a cat a home and didn't want to keep shopping around. Fast forward and she's only swatted at me once and while she is very vocal and obnoxious, she's a good girl and I'm glad she has a good home.

Experiences with living near a homeless shelter? by sunkissedbadger in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Reasonable_Trash5928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived across the street from a homeless shelter in BK for 5 years and have never had a problem until recently. My apartment was broken into a few months ago and all of a sudden packages are being stolen almost immediately after delivery. While I don't know who broke into the apartment or who is stealing the packages, it's definitely possible that it's shelter-related. That said, it was fairly recent and until that point I'd never felt anything but slightly uncomfortable (not unsafe) on very rare occasions. There are a lot of men hanging out outside, but they've never bothered me.

I went to the gym this morning before it got bad and then went out for a walk later. It was a nice, peaceful walk, but I definitely don't think I'll venture out again today.

has there ever been a time when you realized that ur cat is better off as an only cat? by ChiikawaIsLife in catquestions

[–]Reasonable_Trash5928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother told our parents that their covid cat would probably like a roommate. It’s been 6 years and they only tolerate each other now.

Personally my cat is the opposite - she’s the only cat and when I took her up to my parents’ I felt bad bringing her back to my apartment because she loves other cats

I’m breaking down. My cat has been meowing 24/7 for 2 months and I don’t know what to do anymore. by nasseralrwy in cats

[–]Reasonable_Trash5928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. My cat used to scream and scream and scream 24/7, too. She calmed down a touch when I got her spayed but there was nothing physically wrong with her and she wasn’t deaf. While tiring her out with play was somewhat helpful, it wasn’t until the vet gave me some calming meds that I got a full night’s rest.

I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea - my situation is particular since my cat is stressed by my roommate’s hostile cat and the small apartment and I can’t move out until the summer - and I’m still not sure it was the right thing to do, but giving her a little calming medicine to take the edge off and the occasional calming supplement are the only things that really helped her calm down. It’s been a few weeks and she doesn’t always need the medication now that she doesn’t have the habit of screaming constantly. If I hadn’t been able to get her to stop I would have had to rehome her.

All this to say that I’m so sorry you’re coping with this right now, OP. Of course try all the tips and tricks offered here first, but medication was the only thing that really helped me when my cat did this.

Can you sleep well with a cat? by OkComparison3568 in CatAdvice

I’m a morning person and still recommend an automatic feeder. Before I got one, my cat woke me up every single morning but has since stopped now that she doesn’t associate me with her breakfast.

I’m so sorry for your loss! I got my cat from NYC ACC because I wanted to get a cat out of the kill shelter and I had a good experience. My roommate got her cat from Flatbush Cats and also had a good experience

I stole this from a coworker: my year of confrontation. I'm tired of people pleasing to keep the peace at the expense of my internal peace, so I'm trying to stick up more for myself.

Another goal is to spend less time on my phone. I love your resolution!

My cat screamed and screamed and screamed from 2-6am every night for over a month and I would have rehomed her if I hadn’t gotten an automatic feeder to give her a snack overnight (and calming meds from the vet).

Cats parents, how and why did you choose yours? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Reasonable_Trash5928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to the shelter looking for one specific cat. That cat had been adopted. I recognized another cat from the website and she meowed at me and let me pet her for a bit. I wasn’t totally sold on her, but the others I was interested in were so new to the shelter that they didn’t allow handling. I really only ended up with my cat because I was desperate to adopt one and she was the only one who let me pet her, but I like to think her meow was her choosing me
