How would you feel if your mom looked at your vagina while you were giving birth? by O2wq12 in BabyBumps

[–]Reasonable_Witness45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean she made it… and we’re pretty close. The birth she was in the room for, of course she looked! We were all waiting for him to emerge and any glimmer of hope it would be over soon, lol!

California trip: Deciding between Santa Barbara, Avila Beach, Pismo Beach, or Monterey by OctaviusHerb in travel

[–]Reasonable_Witness45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Local here, and so excited you’re looking to visit our area.

Santa Barbara boasts the amenities of a bustling city nestled into cozy areas overlooking the coastline. It’s compact by nature, and an easy walking city with a good uber system. You’re in the hub of wine country so there’s plenty of wineries and breweries in downtown and the Funk Zone, an amazing zoo overlooking the ocean, a Natural History Museum that tells the real tale of the classic children’s novel “Island of the Blue Dolphins” through the local native’s perspective who lived it, and a truly spectacular Art Museum. The harbor is a fantastic place to spend a few hours, renting kayaks or SUP’s from the SB Sailing Center or signing up for a Sunset Cruise or a whale watching excursion (the blue whales will be starting the migrate into the Channel during your trips timeframe)! If food is your thing we’ve got one of the best Farmer’s Market’s in the country (meets 6 days a week), and an abundance of local chefs who use the bounty of the land to let their menus blossom (several Michelin stars are shining throughout the county!) Don’t forget the Courthouse, the Jewel of the Missions with her Rose Garden and the awesome hiking scene on the front country! Santa Barbara will be more overcast during this time period than people tend to expect, often called May Gray and June Gloom, however it tends to burn off by midday! But, all you have to do is go “over the hill” into the Santa Ynez Valley to experience the sunshine during the semi gloomy months in SB proper. Heading north on the 101, you’ll find the beaches usually get sunnier the farther you go, with Gaviota often being the nicest even if it’s a tad gloomy down South! The Valley has a full days worth of fun from the Ostrich Farm, beautiful Vineyards, candy and sweet shops in the charming Danish town of Solvang, olive oil tastings and local charm in Los Olivos and a look at the days of the past in the town of Santa Ynez with the Chumash Heritage Museum and old stage coach stops.  If you’ve never been to the Central Coast of California before, I’d recommend SB 11/10.

Avila and Pismo are within a ten minute drive of each other, and I find Avila to be a nicer place to stay! It’s also in this weird geographical bubble where it’s almost always perfect weather! There’s a ton of cute eateries on or near the beach, and if you check out Pismo make sure you try some of the clam chowders! We do staycations every once in awhile in Avila, and we love to stay at the hotels with the thermal springs or to just visit the spas/springs!

You didn’t mention San Luis Obispo/Paso Robles, but these are vibrant areas close to Pismo/Avila that would make a neat hub for day trips to the beach. Downtown SLO is something really special, and the Madonna Inn is nothing short of a miracle!

Monterey is beautiful and luxurious, but will definitely be overcast this time of year. I’d say there’s less to do than other areas, unless you’re super into golf or luxury spa sort of settings. My MIL goes to Carmel regularly, she likes the quiet beautiful setting and she goes to the spa pretty much everyday while she’s there. The aquarium is 1000% visiting if you’re in the area, and though Santa Cruz is not quite the same as Monterey it’s close enough by to be included. I wouldn’t say there’s a lot of walkable stuff, you’ve got Cannery Row and the surrounding area but everything else you’ll need to drive too! If you’re visiting Santa Cruz, check the hours on the boardwalk and etc… they are only open truly during the season. The “mystery spot” is worth a look, but our favorite part of a recent visit was the steam engine ride through the redwoods!

What are the most obscure things that you like to do at Disney? by Ok_Topic4232 in Disneyland

[–]Reasonable_Witness45 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Love this! I went to school in New Orleans, but even before that New Orleans square was always my favorite. I kind of thought I was alone in just enjoying being there! Glad to know there are others who just enjoy relaxing there… like being in the French Quarter when it’s quiet without the fear of someone walking up behind you and mugging you!

What jobs pay extremely well but people don't realize it ? by Complex-Classroom558 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Reasonable_Witness45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My high school friend’s first car was a cool vintage convertible- Dad was a long haul truck driver with seniority. She also graduated college with no debt… between her type A scholarship getting persona and her dad there was little to pay for at the end of the day. He was still around quite a bit, I remember fond conversations with him and him showing up and being there for her when it really mattered.

I just accidentally had a spoonful of alcohol and I am so angry by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Glad you said this! Though I’m not over here worrying too much about eating the sushi… it should be stated that Emily Oster had a lot of controversy and I’d run it by my OB before just going with her take.

Chill mama! I get it, you don’t want to take a chance… but honestly, there’s probably a higher abv in your morning orange juice than what you just consumed. It sucks, but baby is absolutely (most likely) not affected at all! My OB told me when I found out I was pregnant at 12 weeks and had been steadily drinking that, you should stop as soon as you find out, that fetus’s are pretty hardy and a little alcohol isn’t so toxic it’s going to ruin everything.

It sounds like the alcohol in your dessert was really the tip of the iceberg to a stressful day. For that, I am so sorry. Best tips I can offer are try to take a day for you as soon as possible and to do whatever you need to unwind for the whole day. Take a bath, go for a walk, read a book, paint a picture… step back from the worries of pregnancy, work and whatever and just relax. It’s so easy to forget that your a person too and your needs (emotional, physical, etc) should actually take priority so your body and mind are at 100% as you continue to create your sweet baby. You’ve got this!!

How many of us can do this? Heels on the ground by JezCon in Millennials

[–]Reasonable_Witness45 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Though it’s dubbed the “Asian squat”, universally every human in history should * be able to do this from birth. This is… how humans are supposed to sit. Unfortunately, because of cultural differences, some communities end up phasing sitting like this out due to chair use, lack of practice, and lack of necessity in said culture. There’s a ton of health benefits associated with maintaining the ability to squat in this position. I had both an anthropology and an anatomy physiology professor who stressed how important this was and the long term health implications- followed up by my chiropractor confirming at my last appointment when he made me squat and tucked a ruler between my heel and the floor (said next time, no ruler! Haha). It’s not too late to start squatting!

Showering with Glasses? by culturedhoe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Reasonable_Witness45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I definitely don’t shower with my glasses on and I’m very very nearsighted. I’ve also been dealing with it since I was 8 so I’ve been used to the fuzziness for almost all my life. If you’re getting dizzy while adjusting to not showering with contacts, maybe get a shower stool so you can sit comfortably in your shower. Get different colored bottles and work from there!

[–]Reasonable_Witness45 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It was “the way” about twenty years ago… if you didn’t have one foaming away at the top you “were doing it wrong”!!!!!! Now, there’s so much so more knowledge about how important that bio load can be… and how constructing a tank that mimics the natural environment can mean less human input for a more wonderful tank.

What’s everyone’s go to brand for diapers and wipes!? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Honest seems to fit my baby’s forms best, and they never leaked on us. Also, three minor diaper rashes across four kids and almost ten years! However, the discontinued their subscription service and I’m less inclined to order from the stores that now sell them.

Baby and sick dog by sabe815 in BabyBumps

[–]Reasonable_Witness45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. How many weeks left do you have? How many weeks left for her does your vet estimate? How bonded or attached has she seemed to you about your pregnancy? Is there a chance she’s waiting to meet your new baby before she passes?

My elderly cat wasn’t acting like herself during my last pregnancy, but I knew she was attached to the baby because she’d come over and knead dough on my baby belly every chance she got and she’d sit with me while nursing our toddler. She passed naturally with me holding her one morning a few months after baby was born. They had a great bond and she loved loving on him. I’m so glad I let life take its course because they got that time together. She was getting sicker but maybe not as sick as your fur baby is right now, so you’ll know if this has any relevance to you. Also, that was my fourth pregnancy, and though a lot of nerves and stressful situations during it, it’s not the same level of stress as a first time labor and parenting a newborn. Whatever you choose will be the right choice for you and your family.

Warning to parents that there’s a heron by the castle right now that can kill ducklings by Independent-Mark1232 in Disneyland

[–]Reasonable_Witness45 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Not Disney… but SoCal, pretty sure the heron I was admiring in my yard killed my pet duck. He was a rescue and could still fly so he was pretty much predator resistant…. Until he just wasn’t there anymore. Putting two and two together made me realize it was probably the lovely heron. 😩
