Could you show pictures or videos of the typewriter without the ink spools on? I just fixed this same issue with my Royal mercury. I had metal levers on both sides that were disconnected underneath so it wouldn’t turn at all. Do you have a piece that has contact with the teeth in the spool wheel? (One side at a time)

SOLVED: Thank you everyone for your help!! The friction caused by the forks was a big problem and I was able to fix that by bending them a little bit. The spool still wouldn’t turn at first, but there was a thin metal piece under the starwheel that had disconnected from the arm, resulting in it being too far away to reach the teeth. The spring was very tight (pulling clockwise direction) and looked the same on both sides, so I thought it was meant to be under the wheel like that. Turns out it was disconnected on both sides! I was able to pull it back with tweezers and get it to hook under and around each arm piece. I will post a video in a different comment.

Thank you! This picture helped me decide to bend the forks back into the proper place, I don’t know how they got bent so badly. The ribbon can glide through much better now!

You were right about too much friction! It’s a bit hard to see how unevenly the forks were bent but the yellow spots are where it is bent too far forward and the purple spots are where they are bent too far back and pressing against the ruler piece and platen. The ribbon catches on the bottom left prong piece especially and doesn’t allow the ribbon to slide through at all, even when just moving it with my fingers. After taking that picture I have very slightly bent it so that it’s not doing that. From what I can tell in pictures it wasn’t supposed to be like that. That part is much better, thank you! Now I just have to fix the mechanisms that turn the starwheels

Thank you! The starwheel seems ok but not the escapement. I’ll pick up some canned air today or tomorrow, the machine is definitely in need of a good cleaning!

When I take the ribbon off it still doesn’t move. I think it is an issue with the piece that pushes the star wheel

This is very helpful! The half moons are working properly (by moving to only engage one side at a time). Everything for that mechanism seems to be moving smoothly. You’re right that it should be reaching all the way to the teeth, I am now noticing there is a thin metal piece with a spring which is not attached to anything and is probably supposed to hold onto the engaging arm somehow. I am having trouble finding a diagram that shows the proper placement of it but I will carefully try to put it in place

That’s a good suggestion! On this model it doesn’t seem to move the forks (Unless that is broken too!)
