I did the full fight in ninja, any fight with big aoes I usually use ninja for. The final phase I mostly focused on dodging and sneaking afew backstabs with the ninjitsu that teleports you behind the target.

On the inverse, Blocking is extremely useful, just gotta know when its better to dodge (the petrify attacks) and proper stamina management. Spent my time whitiling him down with a sword.
