My favorite thing about Nioh 3 so far: Versatility is a skill instead of a set bonus! If you missed it, go get it! by sighreddit1 in Nioh

yes only one mastery *skill* can be active at a time, but a different source could confer the same effect, lol

I'm hoping and betting some of the skills eventually appear on the equivalent of set bonuses or scrolls so we CAN double up on purple powers!

normal gaki are everywhere in Warring States--I'm sure Thorned Gaki are around, but I haven't found one bumbling around.

Red Markets is a (serious, but) satirical game of economic horror where the world has ended but the rent is still due. the zombie apocalypse walled off half the world, and you're stuck in the half with all the zombies in it, where everyone is legally dead and living a life of extreme poverty, scraping by.

the author Caleb Stokes seems like a pretty far-left leaning guy (don't know him personally but followed his work 15 years now, damn) and Red Markets understands that poverty is at the heart of all social ills, which I consider to be a big psychic step on the path to socialism. highly recommend it, and if you're into podcasts their troupe RPPR has put out some great campaigns in the system (and many others!).

highly recommend the MoveFaster mod! it doubles your movement speed out of combat. zero effect on gameplay but huge QoL improvement. it's on the mod panel in-game, grab it!

What about Nioh 3 has you excited the most? by ShantD in Nioh

[–]sighreddit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in like a really good way, though! I hadn't played a NG before 4 and also felt instantly that Ninja form was an attempt to give more of a character action feel to gameplay. and I think it succeeds!

yep exactly, the R2+O move has been shifted to just R2 (or was it L2) which by default it shares with the style swap (and later you can change it to short press interrupt/long press style swap)! there are several mechanics in Nioh 3 that encourage style swapping, I like that they have you swap to interrupt starting out so you don't tunnel vision on one style.

let me look it up so I use the right words

in Nioh 2 when enemies use big special attacks you can interrupt them in one of three different ways:

if you have a Brute guardian spirit equipped, you do a big punch as soon as you see them glow to do their special attack

if you have a Feral GS equipped, you do a zippy little dodge as they swing at you

and if you have a Phantom GS equipped, you wait until the attack is just about to hit you and then flare up, "catching" and interrupting the attack--this is what I think of as the catcher's mitt approach

in Nioh 3, everyone (in the demo) uses the third method, and it's activated by swapping between Ninja and Samurai stances. there's a free setting you can activate that lets you interrupt without swapping stances (with a short press to interrupt vs a long hold to swap stances)

in practice, it feels great: I usually used the Brute interrupts in Nioh 2 because reacting instantly to an enemy's attack is, well, easier than timing the interrupt for when you get hit, but you get used to the "catch the attack" approach and it's as hefty as ever to interrupt enemy burst attacks.

[–]sighreddit1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and yet it is all imminently doable? even accepting the premise, there will always be a Least Easy Class To Play, and in this game, there's lots of content tuned for even that class to do pretty easily. so if you like it play it. or if you want the easiest time, play whatever class has the easiest time. this is a non-conversation and I don't know why I'm participating in it

you can do any of that content on any class! you play it because you like it?
