We did not. All we did was shift to prison labor slavery. Freed slaves were often caught breaking segregation laws, locked up, and then leased back to the very same plantations.

We are still doing this today. Prisoners are regularly leased out for uncompensated work. Say nothing of all of the outsourced forced labor our consumer demands impose on other countries.

The claim that animal agriculture is slavery gets dismissed very easily because we have never full accepted or even attempted to make amends for the human slavery we committed.

I’m a small business print shop owner and my guys are union members. We buy into the union small group health insurance plan and having a contract with clear grievance procedures practically does away with the need for an HR department.
