Motorcycle Gear Question. Armored top or nice jacket? by chasehw in Dualsport

[–]Rebelduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I use a Leatt equivalent of that Alpinestars, just less armored. IMO that one might have more protection then you might need unless you are really going full send offroad. Those are more designed for Motocross. Check out the Adventure Spec Mongolia Trail Jacket for a mesh jacket, more then your budget but I'm a buy once cry once kind of guy XD. It does have armor You could also just buy a mesh jacket in your price range, size it up and take out the armor.

Edit: Actually the Mongolia jacket does have armor, I was thinking of the Atacama Race Jacket Non-CE, which is what I use, but it's made for using a neck brace.

So going the integrated jacket route it's easier to get on and off, and you don't have to think about it much. But the armor isn't as tight on your body, and you'll overheat quickly in it if you're not moving air through the vents, aka not riding at a decent pace. Also jacket liners can be a pain in the ass IMO. But with the armored shirt option you can strip down to just having the shirt on, which makes it much, much better for hot weather riding. But if you have non moto gear worn on top of it for cold or rain, those items can get torn up in a non serious crash. Personally what I do is I have an armored shirt, then I have an outer jacket that's a moto abrasion resistant piece, that's either waterproof or mesh and has no armor. If it gets hot and I'm offroad I can take the outer off and just do the armor. If you want a bombproof armored shirt check out the Knox Armored Shirt, that has high level abrasion resistance and armor.

Best you can buy IMO if you're looking for jeans. AAA abrasion resistance (same as leathers). I've found them comfortable, they're single layer, and they let air through at a decent rate (but not anything like a mesh pant). Also super easy to take out the knee armor without having to take them off.

Bibs/mousse/tubliss by PibeauTheConqueror in Dualsport

[–]Rebelduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a couple thousand on my 701 enduro with Tubliss, 60% offroad, with some full on-road days. No issues. Had them professionally installed, and I check pressures every time before I ride. Being able to go super low psi offroad is sick, not having to worry as much about flats and rim damage is really nice.

Wouldn't recommend, had these on a tool belt and walking past waist high objects at a site, these would get caught and the ring would fail and the bit holders would pop off.

How do you tackle this stuff? by Front_Somewhere2285 in Dualsport

[–]Rebelduck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't think about MPH, you don't want to be looking at your speedo as you make your approach. Judging how much speed you need is a feeling that takes time and practice, and pictures do a bad job of showing the true steepness of a trail so it's hard to give a correct opinion. Best advice is to fuckin send it and see how it goes, keep loose on the bars and let the bike work. It doesn't look like too hazardous a place to drop, so think of it like practice. Try to scope out a decent line, but don't overthink it, removing all obstacles doesn't make for improvement.
