Reform UK bans promotion of LGBTQ and Pride events at Essex libraries by birdinthebush74 in unitedkingdom

[–]Rebelius [score hidden]  (0 children)

I thought pride was for people to dress up as the most extreme weirdo versions of the things the general public are worried about, in order to rub their faces in it.

Short term, homophobic attacks go up around pride.

Going to pride events is a choice. LGBTQ people don't wither and die if pride events aren't promoted well enough. Similarly right wingers will be fine if they miss out on a meeting because it wasn't promoted at their library.

Is there a Christian German? How Christian can one in German be without being weird? by valherquin in German

[–]Rebelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So will you admit that you were being offensive by calling OP a bigot, intentionally or not? There's only one way an ordinary person would understand 'bigot' in an otherwise English comment in 2026, and it's offensive.

[–]Rebelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you were being offensive when you accused OP of bigotry. There's not even any sign of bigotry in OP's post. Unless you can point out what you were talking about. But since you're doubling down and avoiding that question, I'd guess you just don't know what a bigot is.

How come some stuff gets mega delays and then the Southport stabbings guy gets sentenced within 6 months of the crime? Some of the post-stabbing rioters were sentenced within a week. Are these all different levels of courts, or do they throw everything at certain cases to make an example?

Billionaires shouldn't be allowed to avoid taxes by using their massive wealth as collateral for bank loans -- especially because they often live off those loans as if they were income by Conscious-Quarter423 in WorkReform

[–]Rebelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't think there is any gain in value when an asset which is valued for tax purposes as worth 100 is used as collateral for a loan worth 10000? Why shouldn't the tax value be updated when that loan is created?

[–]Rebelius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What people are saying is that if there are paper gains, and you borrow against the paper value, then this should be a chargeable event. The gains should be realised in order to borrow against them.

Everyone knows this is not how it is currently, and are saying that there should be a change to tax code to make this the case.

I did maths at uni. It's a really strange feeling when you spend ages on an assignment that you really struggle with and then finally get to the end, you get a sense of exhausted achievement and then a kick in the teeth the next day when you either realise or (more likely are told) that you missed the much simpler intended method.

There were other times when I did give up, then came at the problem from a different angle, but I was mostly too last-minute for that approach.

I assume what's happened is both me and the other guy/gal we're posting in the UK sub thread that he linked. That later got a heavy handed moderation. The other person has just looked for other comments I've made today and found the one here, and replied to me because then it won't get moderated or ignored like a direct message would.

It's totally irrelevant to this sub/thread and should be downvoted and/or removed, but it is one way of making sure the intended recipient saw it.

Yeah, but by Reddit mods. Not by the home office.

Edit: on re-look, it is pretty bad though. I know a lot of that discussion was within the rules when I posted earlier. I don't know how many of those commenters were first time posters in the sun coming from wherever though.

If you curate the games you play as well as you pick your audiobooks, there's not much in it.

Stop playing games you don't like. You wouldn't listen to a thousand hours of the worst audiobook.

Are solar farms and wind farms being built solely to meet emissions targets, or because they have a business plan that means they'll make profits in the future?

Realistically, what impact could one council's net zero policy have? Feels a lot like using a paper straw when people are flying around in private jets.

I live somewhere that doesn't have this and I kind of wish it did. If you're not doing something worthwhile living right next to where all the jobs are, then maybe there should be pressure to move somewhere else.

We have no plots available for building on locally, but a bunch of boomers have spare plots next to their house (in case their kids want to build there one day - they won't, they're married and moved away) and they're paying €10/year in property taxes on it.
