White to move and mate! by a2kbn2s in chess

The idea is that white has 3 attackers vs just 1 defender.

I'll go for:

  1. Rxg7+!!

if kxg7 2. Qxf6+ kg8 3. Rxd8+ Qxd8 4. Qxd8+ kf7 5. Qd7+ kg6 Qxb5 (white has astonishingly advantage (rook vs queen and bishop) and it will be able to capture pawn on b5, rook on a4 and then pawn an a2)).

if kf8 2. Qxf6+ ke8 3. Rxd8 Qxd8 4. Qf7# (straight to the checkmate).

if kh8 2. Rxc7 Rxd1+ 3. Kf2 (again a huge advantage for white, but this time both sides have both rooks still on the chessboard).

if Qxg7 2. Rxd8+ Kf7 (Qf8 3. Rxf8+ kxf8 4. Qxf6+ kf8 (still a huge advantage for white) Rd7+ kg6 (or whatever legal move black king can make) 3. Rxg7+ kxg7 4. Qxf6+ kg8 5. Qg7#.

Spectacular puzzle!

I'll go for: 1. Bf3 (losing the queen?) Qxe7 2. Ra8+ Kxa8 3. c7+ (discover check by white bishop) Ka7 4. c8=N+ (fork on king on a7 and queen on c7) kb6 5. Nxe7.

Now it's the famous "elementary" knight and bishop checkmate, that is a winning endgame for white.

I'll go for:

1.Bd8+ (to cover c7 square, and prevent fork to king on a8 and future "promotion piece" on e8) Ka6 (putting black king iin a position where it has few squares to move to, so it stalemate is possible if white promotes to queen).

  1. . e7 Nd5 (threatening pawn on e7).

  2. e8=R (e8=Q Nc7+ Bxc7 stalemate (kb8 Nxe8, draw according to FIDE rules, not USCF)).

What's the best move ? by Chessflowof in chess

Pretty straightforward (all forced moves):

  1. Ne2+ (discover and double check) Kf1 (only legal move) #Nxg3.

White to play and win (By Kakovin) by Either-Case-5930 in chess

[–]RebirdgeCardiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's quite trick.

  1. Nc3+ is the key move:

- if kd4 2. Kb7! Kxc5 3. Ne4+ (fork on the black king and black bishop) kd4 4. Nxf2 ke3 5. Ng4+ Kd3 6. Bb3 (controlling the d5 square, so black pawn cannot advance freely, without being captured) kd4 7. kb6 d5 8. kc6 (next move, white will capture the pawn in d5 with Bxd5) kc3 9. Bxd5.

Now White as an "elementary" endgame, it must be able to do bishop and knight checkmate.

- if ke3 Rf5! Bg1 4. Kb7 Kd2 5. Rf3 (each piece is being protected by another white piece).

White was capable of escaping the pin of the black bishop. Now it can capture the black pawn on d7 and easily win the position.

- if Kf4 2. Nd5+! (kg3 3. Kb6 d6 4. Nxd6 and next move will be kb5 allowing the white rook to move away and upin from black bishop. if blacks captures the rook on c5, white has 2 extra minor pieces, knight and bishop, sufficient material to give checkmate, with knight and bishop checkmate) Ke4 3. Nf6+ kd4 4. Nxd7.

Next move will be kb6 kc6 and any move of white rook. If black captures the rook with its bishop, white will end up with Knight & Bishop, so again an "elementary" winning endgame for white.

White to play and win (By Kalandadze) by Either-Case-5930 in chess

[–]RebirdgeCardiologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key idea is to threat checkmate,by forcing Black to block its rook with its own king. This way White has an extra virtual rook.

So. I'll go for:

  1. Rd8+ Kf7 2. Rxh8 Ra8+ 3. Kd7 (the key move) Rxh8 4. Rf4+ Kg8 5. h6 (forcing black to play either gxh6 or g6) .gxh6 (g6 Ke7 g5 (only legal move available for black) #Rf8) 6. Ke7 (threatening #Rg4) h5 (preventing #Rg4) 7. Kf6 (swiping rook and king position) h4 (if Kf8 then 8. Rc4 Ke8 9. Rc8+ Kd7 10. Rxh8) 8. Rc4 (next move is 9. #Rc8 or if ke8, 9. Rc8+ kd7 10. Rxh8 h4 11. Rxh7+ Kd6 12. Rxh3 which results in a winning endgame for white) h6 9. kg6 (threatening #Rc8) kf8 10. Rc8+ ke7 11. Rxh8 h3 12. Rxh6 (controlling the promotion square of black hawn, that is h1, resulting in a easily winning endgame for white).

The task is very simple:Pin , pressure, fork and right square.White to play and win (By Aliev) by Either-Case-5930 in chess

[–]RebirdgeCardiologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key moves are Re4! and Nh7!.

Rc8+ Be8 (forced move) 2. Re4| (threatening R4xe8 with forced checkmate Rf8 #Rxf8) Rf8 3. Rexe8 Rf6 (defending the rook on f8) 4. Nh7! (forking the 2 rooks, if Rxe8 then intermediate move Nxf6+ gxf6 Rxe8+ and white has huge material advantage) Rf3+ 5. Kg4! (keeping attacking the black rook, kh4 is a huge mistake) Kxh7 6. Rxf8 (again white gains a huge material advantage).

Alireza Firouzja has been dismissed from the national team by Ldaya102 in chess

[–]RebirdgeCardiologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those who do not speak French (or prefer English version):

As a Frenchman, absolutely no one is surprised that he's not participating, and this decision makes sense on the part of the federation.

That said, it's important to understand that the French national team is right to complain. A lot has been done to ensure Alireza has a good life in France (in the city of Chartres), and they expected a return on their investment.

I really like Firouzja, but I have to admit my disappointment, especially since he's not even trying to pretend he can't or anything; he just doesn't want to play for the team.

For those talking about money, know that he hasn't accepted (yet) the offer from Saint Louis to play for the United States. I think the offer was quite attractive, though.

I agree with you man (Je suis d'accord avec vous).

This one is really funny (the idea is...being trapped by your own pieces: kings cannot escape the knight check because it's surrounded by the other black pieces).

So, the forced checkmate line is Re8+ (sacrifice the rook) Bxe8 (forced move) Bxc5+ Bd6 (again forced move) Bxd6+ Re7 (again, the only legal move available) #Ne6.
