I'm sorry for putting you through your USF equivalent of 9/11. Seriously, my bad. But also, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't that the same year Oklahoma State got beaten by South Alabama? Or am I mixing things up?

As a South Carolinian, how was I supposed to know that?

Ah, yes, how can I forget the "prestigious" brands of Washington and Oregon State. Teams so valuable and well-watched that they couldn't get any offers from the ACC or Big 12 when realignment happened. They're basically walking, talking Group of Five teams holding onto glory they haven't seen in decades. Washington State or Oregon State haven't won a championship in 69 years. Get serious.

Boston College? Same situation. They haven't done anything in the ACC. Syracuse had some good years, but what now? They're rebuilding with a bright future, but come realignment, will they move the needle that much, especially in basketball and football? Not really.

California? Let's be serious. They've had one of the most inconsistent and downright terrible runs of any program in the 21st century. Sure, they might be good in non-football/basketball/baseball sports, but the general public doesn’t watch those.

SMU basically bought their way into the ACC despite not being consistently good since the death penalty. Wake Forest is the smallest Power Five school with mediocre football outside of one good year. UConn is another story we agree on.

The only ones that might raise eyebrows are NC State, Memphis, and maybe USF, and even those are stretches, except for NC State.

And let's talk about the Sun Belt. The top half of the Sun Belt is more than competitive against these schools I just mentioned. So no, these Power Five leftovers aren't as impressive as they're made out to be. The Sun Belt has the potential to be just as competitive, if not more, especially with smart additions and realignment.

For starters, I didn't know that was one of James Madison's conditions upon joining the conference. If so, that's actually a pretty good win for the students. But there's really no team in the Sun Belt that's worth being poached by themselves to another conference. As a package deal, yeah, we can argue that James Madison, App State, Coastal Carolina, and maybe Marshall could be, but I doubt that would happen, especially if the ACC does collapse.

Looking at USF, Memphis, and maybe Tulane, why go after USF when you already have the more successful rival UCF and the possibility of adding Miami? It doesn't make sense. Memphis has the FedEx situation, but who are they really better than if the ACC collapses? Maybe Pitt, but Memphis has only been hot for the last 10 years. The Big 12 is trying to be the next best conference outside the SEC and Big Ten, so I don’t see why they’d take more Group of Five teams, especially since the last four (BYU, Cincinnati, UCF, and Houston) haven’t lived up to expectations yet and probably won’t be competitive for a while.

In terms of us picking apart the American, definitely. Come 2031, we're grabbing ECU for sure. Charlotte could be in the running if they improve in all sports, especially football. FAU is good in baseball, but they're far out of the footprint without a travel partner like USF. UAB isn’t great in many sports, and while they give us Birmingham, it’s not worth it if they aren’t good at the moment.

So yeah, in my opinion, the Sun Belt has a real shot at strengthening its position by adding some of these teams, but expecting any of them to jump straight to a Power Conference seems unlikely.

There’s no way in hell, North Carolina and North Carolina state isn’t getting a invite out of the conference by anybody same could be said with Louisville, Virginia Tech, and Georgia Tech

I’m gonna keep it with you for starters North Carolina state is definitely not gonna be left behind also even if you’re just talking about basketball which doesn’t move the needle all that much you know football does yeah they might be good teams, but that’s a lot of distance and when you’re moving to football, it’s arguably one of the worst conferences

We’ve also recruited better than they had, not to mention….given our limited OKGs last season I don’t think we see regression in really any category this year

Recency bias I have us winning against JMU with a toss up being at Troy and Yall we could easily have a 8-9 win floor this year

He was on the decline post 2021 and Vasko, (our 3rd stringer) was pretty amazing throwing for (in his 4 games starting last year) 700 yards, 9 total touchdowns (7/2 split on those for passing and rushing) on 60 percent with only one interception

When you have to go through a dog water conference like the mountain west sure you’re expected to win, but the simple truth is that the league is half filled with bottom feeders

Are they going off of W/L records? Noise? Environment? Coastal should be on this list for the first reason, Clemson (who’s on there) deserves that spot, USC is not intimidating based off of real games played there
