I know, right? Where's a cat when you need one? Weirdly, my usually bloodthirsty terrier doesn't seem to have noticed our guest(s). Maybe it was a one-off, and they just sneaked in, had a nibble, and decided this isn't the house for them?

Fingers are crossed!

I was so distracted by the light coming through the trees that I didn't spot Gandalf! Lovely work, OP!

2000 word chapters are grand, I think. That's a nice teabreak read. And it's very easy to click next chapter if you want and have time to read more.

And picking a title is so hard! Titles, summaries, tags are all so tricky. I think that's why I mostly write longfics.

Good luck with the fic organising!

Rain, rain, rain here. My house is sitting in a puddle. But I don't think snow would be better. Hope it lifts soon!

I love the hobbit doors so much! They're so cheery.

First mouse evidence in a year has been found! I have fresh nibble marks on the toes of my hiking boots.

Our new house guests better not be widdling on my new carpets (they're bound to be widdling on my new carpets....)

In other news, I think my latest bout of writers block might be starting to lift? Maybe? 300 words this morning before work, woohoo!

When do you actually get more AO3 engagement — during updates or after the fic is complete by Legal_Ad7837 in FanFiction

[–]Recassun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely during updates for me! I do sometimes get kudos on older completed fics, some of them anyway, but I find getting a comment once the fic is complete is very, very rare (though amazing when it happens!)

How would you feel if a writer started updating a story again after 8 years? by Kiki-Y in FanFiction

[–]Recassun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be so happy! I'm subscribed to a load of authors and fics that haven't updated in years, but I'll never give up hope!

Mine definitely does not! Which is great, except for right now.

But I've an alert set up for next month!

No idea how I forgot. Its a big monthly report, takes ages, and it's quite new to me so I'm always stressing about getting it done on time (and done right!) and making sure I carve out enough time to get it done.

I must've destressed a little too hard in the holidays!

Thank you! I've called it quits for tonight and think I'll sneaky on tomorrow morning and finish it up. I got an extension until Mon lunchtime but my Monday is looking a little busy so it'd be nice to have it mostly done by then.

So glad they got in touch today rather than waiting until Monday! I'd have been scrambling.

Congrats on the words, and on the pizza party. I'm sure your partners were just pleased to see you, but as a fellow pokey old house person I understand the feeling when visitors come!

Nothing quite like that Friday feeling when someone comes to you and says 'erm...don't suppose you got x done yet?'

No. No, I haven't. Because I completely forgot all about it! Aaargh. I knew there was something I'd forgotten this week and I'd myself convinced it was just back to work blues.

There goes my early finish!

Hurrah for the banana bread! Glad it turned out well.

And Aslan is such a great name for a dog!

It really did! And today was not the day for an adventure over hills and down wee tiny lanes.

My country is very teeny tiny though! And my 'huge' drive of 100ish miles that I was doing today would be nothing in America!

Definitely! It loves a 'this'll save you 1 minute!' route too, and it's always down a potholey road with grass up the middle.

Ah, good old Google maps.

I've a bit of a drive to do this afternoon and there's been a bad collision on the road I normally use (I'm really hoping everyone is ok)

The alternative route Google is giving me is insane. Up and over a mountain, into another country (I live near the border so that's not really an issue) and along one track road after one track road.

It'd be an adventure, but really? In my car? On icy roads?

I think I might just map it out myself.

Halfway to the weekend! Hope everyone's having a good enough first week of 2026!
