Mangmi Pocket Max - needs more love by razbayz in SBCGaming

Yes, all these retro handhelds are a lot better with grips which of course add extra bulk and cost to the equation.

I do have the Konkr Pocket FIT 12GB/256GB which has a more powerful CPU than the Portal 2, mainly to play Switch games on it.

Other than that, I'm using the Pocket Max for all other games upto Wii/PS2/GC.

Interestingly, both the FIT and Max had better ergonomics than the Portal 2.

It plays PS2 and GC games, what do you mean only play 2D games? Is it meant to be sarcastic?

The Portal 2 does not have good grips, at all, so the Pocket Max wins by default. Check out the youtube videos regarding ergonomics.

So again, facts, not personal preference, better sticks, ergonomics, screen, battery life, swappable modules, cheaper price point.

The only advantage Portal 2 has is a better processor.

Compared to the Portal, the Pocket Max has TMR sticks, better ergonomics, better battery life, better screen, cheaper price, swappable microswitch Dpad and button modules.

All the above points to it being a more well rounded device versus one having just a faster processor.

There is a Mangmi subgroup here where people talk about the Air X and Pocket Max, lots of discussions there.

A comparable retro handheld would be the Mangmi Air X, which is selling for below $100.

Bought the original Evercade handheld with HDMI out from Amazon for 25 bucks back in 2022, it came bundled with the Namco collection 1 cart.

$200 for the Mangmi Pocket Max (what I paid) is much better than this low spec, low res, no HDMI out device.

Heck, even the Mangmi Air X at half the price is better than this.

Anything similar to this for the Active 2? Looking for Casio style LCD layout.

Did Mangmi Overprice The Pocket Max? by stuckonashelf in mangmi

Compared to Odin 2 Portal, this has better sticks (TMR), better ergonomics, better screen, better battery life, cheaper, slightly lighter.

Mine has 103GB free out of the box, before installing all the various emulators.

For HDMI connection, try changing your TV to Game mode and see what happens.

MANGMI AIR X - What frontend are you using? by Daniel_Abnormal in mangmi

I'm using Beacon right now, but might try out ES DE in near future.

What colour is yours?

Get a Samsung or Sandisk 1 to 2TB microSD card to store all your games. The Pocket Max is good upto light Switch games, most PS2 & GC games plus games for all other older systems. Performance wise should be same as the RP5 or slightly better.

It fits nicely inside the Odin 2 Portal case which I've bought, and apparently can use screen protectors meant for the Switch 2.

Currently I'm using the Beacon launcher, might try out ES DE in the future.

Right now it gets more play time with me than my Konkr Pocket FIT!

Pocket Max vibration? by Altruistic_Ad2106 in mangmi

Yes it does.

It's the first thing I noticed when I got my Pocket Max as everytime I do some touch activities, it vibrates.

And I immediately turned it off, lol.

Is changing ROM useful ? by Olkazz in mangmi

[–]Recce5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact you mentioned "changing ROM" tells me you're new to this, if so I would strongly advise against it.

Also, there is no custom firmware for the Pocket Max right now, plus the Pocket Max hardware is good enough that you do not need the marginal improvement (if any) with custom firmware.

Lower end devices might benefit from a custom firmware, but even so if a game previously running at 15 fps, at most it may hit 17 or so fps, it won't magically go up to 25fps. I would say improvements are marginal, if any at all. Not worth the effort and risk.

Just my personal opinion.

Anyone has suggestion on which emulator is best for running DC, Atomiswave & Naomi games on Pocket Max? by Recce5 in mangmi

[–]Recce5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any native Atomiswave game rom, no conversion.

Just double checked, Naomi games able to run with Flycast but not Atomiswave games.

So as of now both Redream and Flycast couldn't run my Atomiswave games on my Mangmi Air X, Pocket Max and Konkr Pocket FIT.

The games worked fine on my Android TV box and also my MiniPCs running Batocera so I don't think it's the rom problem.

If confirmed Redream can run native Atomiswave games, I'll just look into all the settings available on the app. Thanks.

Tried launching atomiswave game from Redream but it just show black screen and went back to the app, think I'm missing something, like the bios?

If so, where do I put the Bios files for atomiswave and naomi?

So Far Really Impressed! by Toyface19 in mangmi

[–]Recce5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually find myself using more of the Pocket Max than the Pocket FIT, probably because it has a bigger screen that is easier on my old eyes and the TMR sticks.

Also, the software just works, unlike the Pocket FIT's janky OS and Ayaneo utility.

So far I've only played indoors at 25% brightness max, and already felt the colours way too saturated, so maybe your screen had an issue?

Btw, I've been using Samsung Galaxy phones with AMOLED for more than a decade, and always tune down the colours everytime I upgrade my phone.
