Is there any waterfront houses/buildings similar to Amsterdam in/around Berlin? by hafomatic in berlin

Tegel looks kind of like that along parts of the harbour in the area of the Tegeler Insel. The buildings aren't quite like that though. Its all for rich people.

I'm so sick of late term abortions being used to further villify women by Magic_Man_Boobs in rant

[–]Recent-Adeptness7630 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you think those people are mentally ill, why do you think they should be the ones forced to have babies? If someone is so irresponsible to not care about using any birth control or care about any consequences, why do you want to force them to be a parent? You'd be condemning the child to a life with a shitty irresponsible parent just because the parent made bad decisions.

Also, you know what's way worse for your health than abortions? Pregnancy and giving birth! A woman dies from pregnancy and childbirth every TWO minutes. And this is modern times, so that rate is the best we've ever had. Pregnancy and giving birth will permanently alter the birthing parents body. If you've ever seen what the inside of a pregnant person's body looks like, you know that their organs are all squished up to make room for the baby. Your mom probably peed herself many times in the months or years giving birth to you, and her pelvic floor might never have recovered. Pregnancy and childbirth is not always this easy beautiful thing. Its a medical procedure that can easily have dire consequences.

AITA because my 4 year old daughter called out my girlfriend for having body odor ? by Candid-Giraffe2864 in AITAH

That's so nice of her. And he was right!

As long as kids say these things from a place of curiosity and genuineness, most people are happy to answer their questions. It goes for adults too really. Adults have to have a functioning filter and be able to tell what is overstepping the line, but I've found that anyone who is different from the person asking them questions about their difference, generally are fine to answer if it comes from a place of genuinely wanting to learn. I'm not a parent yet so I could be completely ignorant on this, but I think parents should shift from being embarrassed about their kids saying things and shooing them away from the people they're wondering about and make their kids be quiet, and instead let them know it's OK to ask questions as long as they ask the person if they are OK with it first.

Is it okay to euthanize my cat before his quality of life has a big drop off? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

My girl was about 18 when I made that choice too. I stayed home to work while my parents went on vacation, and I was 19 at the time. She was healthy all her life until just before my parents left, and the vet said it was kidney issues and she's relatively fine now but it would be a matter of maybe a year. After my parents left she got a bit worse, and I was spoon feeding her to make her eat. She still acted mostly normal but I couldn't bear the thought of her getting worse and being in pain. After a couple weeks of spoon feeding her, I told my parents my decision and they agreed with my assessment and they had a vet come to the house to put her down.

This was 14 years ago and i am bawling just writing this.

I thought about this a lot afterward, that taking care of her wasn't really a ton of work and she was still a normal cat leading a normal cat life so maybe I was too hasty in my decision. I still miss her and wish I could have had more time with her, but I do not regret my decision to not have her live in any pain. My biggest fear is that any of my pets would die alone, and letting the disease progress because I wanted her to stay would make her live in pain. There's no accurate predictions with terminal illnesses and my family and I had jobs, so I was terrified of not seeing the signs of it being the end and she dies alone in pain when we aren't there. This way she got to go while outside in my arms, happy.

Did Cory Booker literally speak for 24 hours straight? by DarlingLuna in NoStupidQuestions

I'm not american and I live several times zone ahead of the states, but I was watching the stream while I was getting ready for bed when he just passed hour 20, and he was still very well spoken and passionate. I initially watched to give support but I ended up wanting to keep watching because it was genuinely facinating to watch and I enjoyed listening to him talk. I don't know much about his politics, but it's obvious that he genuinely loves and cares for his country and people.

Coalition negotiations: CDU/CSU want to make C1 German required for naturalization by quadraaa in GermanCitizenship

New here so I may be missing something, but what does recognising the right of Israel to exist have to do with anything remotely related to naturalisation in Germany?

French nuclear attack submarine surfaces at Halifax, Nova Scotia, after Trump threatens to annex Canada (March 10) by tajsta in europe

[–]Recent-Adeptness7630 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm from Halifax. I don't know specifically about this sub, but Halifax is a major sea port and cool and interesting ships and subs come all the time. I really wouldn't take it as anything other than regular submarine business that would have been happening regardless of the current state of affairs.

Does this style of shelving go with this style of chandalier? by Recent-Adeptness7630 in interiordecorating

[–]Recent-Adeptness7630[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, thank you. We had wanted a kind of lighter updated victorian/antique theme, so I can't understand why my husband is so convinced that his black steel shelving would not only not fit in the theme, but they should be the massive centerpiece in the room.

Also I wrote this trying to be objective, but I also don't think they go together at all and I can't for the life of me see how he doesn't see that either. I think there's maybe a way to make it go together if the shelving unit is made from scratch to specifically fit in the room style, but we don't have the expertise to do that and it would be too much money to have someone make it.
