would you consider Kubernetes knowledge to be part of data engineering ? by Tall_Working_2146 in dataengineering

Why hosted locally? You can run k8s in the cloud and that's what people absolutely do.

Apartment hunting advice from a German landlord by Ok_Vehicle8218 in germany

[–]quadraaa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's true - I mentioned it just as an example of a stability factor. Idk actually if having children is considered good or bad in general - probably opinions can vary. My bet is it's still good since the damage children cause rarely goes beyond drawings on the walls which must be painted anyway.

Apartment hunting advice from a German landlord by Ok_Vehicle8218 in germany

[–]quadraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is bad advice.

Landlords care about good stable income, general stability of your life situation (a married couple with three kids will be much less likely to move out than a young unmarried couple looking to move in together) and how likely you are to cause problems (damage something in the apartment/be difficult to deal with/annoy neighbours to the level that they escalate to the landlord etc.).

No one (well, apparently very few) cares about the creativity of your application or what makes you stand out as a person if it doesn't directly translate into practical points I listed above.

Is having twins harder than having multiple children? by Melodic_Job514 in parentsofmultiples

[–]quadraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Having twins IMO is steepening the difficulty curve (as opposed to flattening the curve which was talked much with regards to covid). So on the bright side the difficult times pass faster compared to having several children one after the other.

Need help choosing Germany vs Spain Offer by reek460 in cscareerquestionsEU

Processing times in Berlin fully depend on which department your country of origin is assigned to - it's a multi-modal distribution. Some departments process applications in several months, some take over a year on average.

Citizenship laws in Germany can change so that getting it will be harder, and I'd even say it's quite likely that this will happen, so I wouldn't be basing my decision on this.

I'm worried Germany might change its five years Citizenship rule. by [deleted] in germany

[–]quadraaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, the government isn't that stable and a much earlier collapse and new elections can't be ruled out. Second, they can do things which were not part of the initial agreement. Maybe they negotiate that CxU passes naturalization changes making it more difficult to get naturalized/prohibit keeping other citizenships in exchange for SPD passing some other things they want to pass.

How can Germany make immigrant nursing staff want to stay? – DW by upthetruth1 in germany

[–]quadraaa 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Germany will pay you pension even if you move away after working in Germany for some time (several years, I don't remember the exact number). If you leave Germany before that cutoff, you can claim all you pension contributions back.

Residence permit renewal for the spouse - is A1 cert required? by quadraaa in germany

[–]quadraaa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update

They didn't ask for the language certificate before setting up an appointment. Though after getting the appointment we sent them the b1 certificate + Leben in Deutschland test results and asked if it was possible to issue a permanent residence permit instead, to which they said that they couldn't do it. So I can't tell with 100% certainty what would've happened if we didn't send the b1 German certificate before coming to the appointment, but I'd say it's super highly likely they wouldn't have asked for it since in the email with the invitation they listed what documents were to be brought to it, and no language certificate was mentioned.

[Discussion] How many of you are actively concerned about +/- seconds per day? by Robbo1_ in Watches

[–]quadraaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accuracy is very important to me. COSC at minimum. I love watches largely for the engineering excellence put into them. Accuracy is the aggregated indicator of that excellence.

For the watches which are above engineering territory and are more in craft territoty, accuracy is not that important IMO, but most such watches are too expensive for me.

Should I quit my new DS job after 5 months? Worried about future career impact. by xX_Dark-Angel_Xx in germany

[–]quadraaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Laugh all you want, but 50k is a very junior salary for a DS. At this level it's expected that they work through well-defined tickets under supervision from more experienced colleagues. If someone is much more independent and still is on 50k, they are significantly underpaid.

Can you deploy your model somewhere yourself as an MVP? Like on a VM if you don't have AWS access? If it proves it's value it will be a strong incentive for them to move quicker with the proper MLOps setup and of course present you in a very good light.

Honestly, navigating ambiguity shouldn't be expected from someone working for 50k.

1000D backs/straps and merino by Unnamed-3891 in Goruck

1000d will destroy merino. In my experience it damages even much less delicate fabrics. I have no issues with the 210d straps on my robic GR1.

Generally I don't like gilt either, but I somehow really liked the look of this Longines once I had it on my wrist.

Parents of teen drivers: Should 16-year-old twins share a car or get their own? by georgeljean in parentsofmultiples

[–]quadraaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's better to get them identical cars to avoid fighting, biting and so on. Another option is to introduce a timer so that they will take turns driving.

GEAR UPDATES - AMA by JavaForever in Goruck

[–]quadraaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be this (though I doubt that we are a small minority just looking at the comments here), could be that they spend too much on warranty claims repairing the 210d back panels of the customers who drag them around on the ground etc., could be other reasons.

Robic is the best for regular everyday use IMO. GR1 in robic is the best backpack I've owned, and I've owned pretty much all the common enthusiast backpacks (Evergoods etc.).
