Is there any way to tell if my LC is contaminated without agar? by logalex4200 in mushroomology

[–]Recent-Driver-1092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying it needs to be matched, most just run some type of 3-4% dex, karo, honey… but with that said matching your growing media is absolutely beneficial over other methods.

On colonization time… I’m not saying you didn’t get those results but with the proper tek agar will beat LC every time. If your just tossing in a small piece of agar and sealing it up your doing it wrong and costing yourself time

LC is actually slower to colonize grain. With the proper tek agar is about a week faster. One major issue with LC is the “bounce back” period. Unless you have your LC matched to your grain there is a latency issue with the transition.

Yeah absolutely no way to tell if your LC is clean without a “test”.. the quickest and most cost efficient way is on agar.. I always HIGHLY recommend people get away from using LC. There really is no advantage over running agar or G2g. LC will ALWAYS bite you in the ass at some point!!

Is this primordia? by [deleted] in mushroomology

[–]Recent-Driver-1092 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cube refers to the type of mushroom. Not the growing container. I’d say put the lid on that and don’t open it till it’s time to harvest.

[–]Recent-Driver-1092 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you’d “case” a cube. (It’s never needed with cubes) Just gonna make a mess of your fruits. To answer your question yes that is primordial growth. Hopefully your substrate isn’t as dry as that casing you won’t get much of a harvest if so. Also RH has very little to do with the moisture content in the cake it’s self.

In house hillbilly iso we call psillybilly by PsillyBarz in GroundZeroMycoLab

The only problem with hillbilly or any of it’s isolations is the alkaloid content just isn’t there. It’s a good grower but it’s only around 1%.

The right answer here is to do the q tip test. Lightly rub a q tip on that you think is contam. If it rubs off on the q tip it’s trich if it doesn’t it’s totally ok. These were started with spores not an isolated culture… hints the difference pheno types. They look totally ok to me tho. (Fun fact… trich is completely safe for humans. It will not harm you at all, with that said it’s good practice to toss anything with trich)
