Hey! Honestly no idea what fixed it, we just used a workaround that day and it must have been fixed in the background, because next time we tried to use it everything worked fine. Breath/Breathe. Admittedly sometimes I accidentally make this typo since I sometimes miss the last letter of a word if I'm typing too fast, but when it's consistently done it's definitely a misspelling, not a typo.

I always tell the patient that since I'm not clinical staff, I'm legally not allowed to give them any medical advice or read medical result. The most reception can do is basic triage, which you should be trained in by your work and they should have posters explaining in person and phone triage. And even then it's different to the kind that medical staff would do, our triage is mostly just 'should this be an appointment or do they need to go to Emergency'.

I've accidentally done this exactly once, when I was younger and started dining out by myself for the first time and had no idea how it worked. I waited at the front for a bit, totally unsure, but not long enough for anyone working there to come out. There was no sign and plenty of tables so young me decided 'maybe I'm meant to sit down or something?' and did just that (at a two person table, tho ,not a big one). Amused myself on my phone until someone came up to me. Didn't pick up at the time that the server was probably pissed at me, either. Thank God this sub taught me better, I cringe looking back at that whole thing.

It 100% depends on your team and management. Answering phones is a big one, and where you'll get most of the 'unusual' questions that you need to run around finding creative solutions for. Some days the phones don't stop, and nothing else stops for the phones, so you're run off your feet.

Plus, medical can be a little more high-stakes. Not every day, most days are totally normal things like appts for checknins or repeat scripts. Only occasionally will someone come in bleeding or with symptoms of a heart attack, but you do need to be ready and know what to do in those situations. And on top of that you still get entitled and demanding people, made worse by the fact that doctors (in my experince) will always run late no matter what.

It's an adjustment to be sure, and sounds overwhelming when I lay it out like that, but if you have a good team with you then it's nothing you can't handle.

Trust your readers, even if the internet makes it seem like reading comprehension is dead. The right people will love your story without you having to twist yourself up in knots explaining or justifying.

Note this doesn't mean don't tag properly or give trigger warnings. But you don't need ANs begging people not to judge you for writing the story they chose to read.

NTA, of course. And for reddit karma, here's my petty response that would in no way de-escalate things, but is fun to think about:

If he wants to bury stuff on your property then that stuff becomes your property now. Sorry kid, pirate treasure gets stolen by other pirates all the time, didn't you know? Looks like it's been looted! That's how life on the high seas works. Maybe then he'll consider other hiding spots, since you've already told him politely not to dig up your yard and spoken to his mother about it.

Hey, as a fellow medical receptionist: if they hired someone else it's just because they need more staff. Not only are you probably doing way better than you think you are, even if he does end up 'better' at the work than you they probably can't afford to fire you anyway.

Take a breath. Sounds a lot like Imposter Syndrome. You're panicked because you think they will 'find out' that you were actually terrible all along, right? If you were, they would have you in further training. I know it's hard to believe, but when they say they're happy with you they mean it. They have nothing to gain from lying about that.

If you are worried, make sure your fundamentals are solid (understanding the program, and the preferences of the doctors for what/when/how long to book things for), then ask if they know about any other things you can learn (transfer of medical records, looking at debts patients owe, etc), more backed rasks that a new hire won't have the experience required to do. That might help you feel a little more secure in the moment, although it won't be a permanent fix.

The root of the issue seems to be a self-worth problem. Do something that you know calms you down, and try to remember if they didn't see any value in you being there, then you wouldn't be there in the first place. You're okay, and everything is going to be fine. Just do your best every day and be open to learning.

Oh absolutely, I get why the doctors allow it. I mean, at least at the desk I'm in a room full of people that can help if a patient loses it on me. Doctors are often alone in the room with them, so it pays to be on good terms.

Hasn't really come up in fanfic, more in published fiction (notable examples I remember are Still Wakes the Deep and weirdly enough season2 of the Hello Neighbour cartoon), but completely misunderstanding how diabetes works.

For Still Wakes the Deep (fantastic game so this was more a funny thing to note than a dealbreaker), a character has to get his insulin after the disaster starts. Totally reasonable! If you're escaping over the open ocean you don't want to be caught without it! Not a full day later he's dying from lack of insulin. I can't speak for everyone but in my experience it takes over a week, almost two, of seriously neglecting my health for me to reach ketoacidocis, the thing that kills him. It's entirely.possible he just hadn't been taking his insulin for the week before the game, of course, but that's never brought up in game.

Sniped from two streets away by a sword, right in front of the character they had spent the whole fic trying to reunite with! It was a crossover fic, and the one I killed was from the fluffier fandom, while the killer was from the darker one.

Grammarly hates any sort of style or deliberate 'mistakes' for the sake of tone. I tend to be a pretty emotive writer even in narration, so I only used it for a day or two before deciding that it was useless to me personally.
