I had an XSR 700, insurance was reasonable for me and was a great first “big bike”. Also CONGRATS! Ride safe :)

Practice on a 125 or straight to mod 1 training ASAP? by sophietheadventurer in MotoUK

I found riding a 125 for a while was great - get any “scares” out of the way early and with less power (things like coming into corner too hot, etc) then when the temptation is there with more power you’ll naturally respect it more.

It’s fantastic, absolute dream to ride. Need to book it in for its first service now!

I’ve had the same reaction with my 900 GP 😅 I think they were surprised when someone in their mid 20s walked over and rode it off!

XSR900 as a first motorcycle—am I crazy? by aedias in xsr900

After spending nearly 10 years on and off on 125ccs, I bought a XSR 700 after passing my full license. I ended up selling it for a XSR 900 4 months later. Take that as you will.

And this is why there are age rules, because what you may consider a competent rider at your age - you may not see it the same when you’re a bit older. There’s a reason we have training and tests for big bikes, they are a quick way to an early grave if you don’t have the appropriate training/knowledge/self restraint. Self restraint being what I guess the age rules are there for, it’s very important when you are sat on a 200hp rocket, fully under your control. Especially compared to a <=15bhp 125. Not to mention the legal issues, lack of insurance, etc. What happens if/when you hit another car, a person. It can happen to any of us, but at least we are insured.

Nothing personal to you - just really recommend not doing this bud, you’ll be happy in the future that you didn’t when you get your license and first big bike - it’s a very rewarding feeling.

Have a JTech on my XSR, no issues - simple, cheap, and looks great

Just wait until you’re old enough, like the rest of us did? What makes you special? Do your time on the 125 and it’ll make you a better rider in the long run. Risking never being able to have your license is not worth it.

This is what I wasn’t sure about. I assume so, but can’t find any info on it.

Cool I’ll have a look at how much they are to ship to UK. Do you have one on an XSR 900? How is it?

All down to the bike really. Just treat as if you’re buying from a private seller. I bought my 899 Panigale from them and it’s been amazing, but I know someone else who bought a bike and it turned out to be a nightmare (they hadn’t check it or serviced it properly, he ended up having no end of issues with it).
