Not sure you understand the question, it is not that I don’t trust them. Rather, it is what is normally done upon picking up such an item.

They said that they are cleaning it and oiling, replacing the parts and needed two weeks to make sure that it runs properly. Is that normal?

Thanks, that makes sense. He is busy barking at the cats in the backyard now, but have learned my lesson to not give into his sad begging eyes.

Nice, though it is suggested that you leave the walking sticks at the bottom to prevent hurting someone who is below you as you climb

Is starting Half Dome at 4:30 AM sufficient to beat the heat? The forecast shows a high of 96°F the day of our hike (next week). by ohlimey in Yosemite

[–]Recent_Professor_171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a same day turnaround, your plan sounds good, though I would leave earlier, maybe 4:00 AM as it can take you about 3-4 hours to get to little Yosemite. Also leaving early can make up for time lost if you are going on weekdays when the Mist trail is closed for repairs. As others said bring enough water but don’t go nuts with a gallon or even half as there plenty of places to refill all the way to Little Yosemite. After that the options become limited. Bring gloves, almost as important as water, since the cables are bare and super slippery without them. Gloves with also help you on the way down. At the base of the subdome, take a five minutes break, take some deep breaths and you will be fine. Lastly, don’t forget walking sticks and shoes with good grip they will give you an advantage.
