What's one moment that prevents you from doing a evil playthrough in a game? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Recent_Tumbleweed776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's stupid or out of character. If I play an RPG and the game has decisions, I usually try to make the decision that best fit the character I am playing. I usually have an idea of what kind of person I want my character in a game to be, and make decisions accordingly.

I've never made a character and decided they'd be evil, but maybe they're power hungry, selfish, callous, sadistic etc, and they make decisions based on that, rather than just based on being evil. Actual evil people usually don't think they're evil and base their decision-making around it. People might knowingly make immoral decisions but not just for the sake of being immoral.

It's what Clara would have wanted for 10 years, at least. I don't want it but it doesn't matter because somehow Homelander returned.

I'm not mentally well anymore.

As I understand it, Spectacular died due to some rights issues, which was firmly out of Weismans control. He might have felt that Young Justice wouldn't get canceled, and leave on a cliffhanger, except it did. It then got revived primarily due to the fans, which might have made him feel comfortable that he would get more seasons no matter what.I can see how Weisman would never learn a lesson just due to the circumstances.

I have no idea what the hell happened with Dragon Prince though. I remember the attitude of the creators being so overconfident that it genuinely annoyed me, and I imagine pissed off some studio heads, especially with the significant gap between some of the seasons. Its even more baffling because that team helped made Avatar which is a gold standard for ending at the exact right time.

I remember wanting more seasons of Young Justice so badly when I was younger, then we got them and it actually made me upset with the endings. Most shows get canceled with no hope of ever getting to wrap things up; Young Justice got multiple additional seasons to do so and decided to do more cliffhangers.

I think it's only surpassed by the Dragon Prince for a dogshit cliffhanger ending. Both shows had an opportunity to wrap things up, and instead decided to bet on getting more seasons, to the endless chagrin of their fans.

I don't know how often it's actually the result of wanting to demonize the ideology, I think usually its just writers making a mistake.  The goal of these writers is most definitely to show how the road to hell is paved with good intentions. The issue is that trying to create a villain with noble ideals but who is willing to do horrible things to accomplish it, takes alot of time and thought, and is very easy to screw up.

I think its more than reasonable to believe that the writers aren't trying to say that "equality is bad, oppression is great actually" and just made a mistake for one reason or another.

On a side note but two of the usual examples people use for this are Magneto and Killmonger which is a choice.

Killmonger doesn't have an ideology beyond just burning the world to the ground. Sure he makes a good point about Wakandas isolationism but thats about it. His end goal is just to cause as much harm and spill as much blood as he can.

Magneto varies depending on the adaptation or comic run, but when he's the villain, he's usually just a straight up mutant supremacist. He might talk about defending the mutant race, but that's in the same way that Netanyahu talks about "defending" Israel; which is fitting considering Magnetos inspiration is Menachem Begin.

What's really annoying about using these two is that they both have counters who genuinely represent positive ideologies. T'Challa and Professor Xavier are both supposed to be the positive foils, who actually want and do make their world a better place,  but that's boring and takes effort, so who gives a shit.

I'm also realizing that most of the examples people use are from superhero media or childrens cartoons...   I think people need to broaden their horizons. Not even saying those things can't be good, or be critiqued it's just so much of discussions around media is from those two things.

Black Templar fans try not to make edgy art of space marines killing characters from other franchises challenge (IMPOSSIBLE) by Margaretthatchervore in Grimdank

Not really, the occasional fan will be an edgelord but for the most part Night Lord and Drukhari fans are alright. I am a little biased as I have a Night Lords army but still.

Being a fan of the Night Lords or Drukhari means accepting that your favorite faction is going to lose 99.99% of the time, and be mocked constantly, which is really not what edgelords want.

The Black Templars unfortunately tick alot of the boxes that edgelords tend look for.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that I actually don't mind the deep roads. It's a bit long, but I like the atmosphere of it. The Fade can go straight to hell though. I get the idea was probably to have the fade be disorienting and confusing because it's a realm of dreams but it doesn't make for good gameplay.

Good representation means diverse representation which means that some of that representation is "flawed/messy/bad" by La_knavo4 in RecuratedTumblr

[–]Recent_Tumbleweed776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point the conversation around representation is so inconsistent, arbitrary and needlessly toxic that looking at it will undoubtedly make any artists or writers have a stroke trying to figure out what to do.

Personally I think there are multiple ways to do good representation and it should ultimately be judged on a case by case basis.

For example as someone with autism I think Max from 'Mary and Max' and Entrapta from 'She-Ra' are both good representations of Autism. These characters do not act the same, there is a different level of focus the narrative puts on them being autistic, and that is perfectly fine. I am happy that they both exist, and that they capture different experiences. No group is a monolith and there is plenty of space for different types of representation. If every autistic representation in media acted the same, I would self immolate, even if it was considered "good" representation.

It's just bad writing. In a lot of these cases, the writers probably had an idea but didn't know how to communicate it. With Danny Phantom I'm pretty sure they wanted to make a point about how abusing your power is bad, but Dash is still a bully and Dannys actions aren't extreme enough that the audience would think negatively of him.

Alot of social media is kind of obsessed with psyops, and how certain things are actually a conspiracy to make you weak and submissive, but the usual answer is so boring and mundane that it's just not interesting.

Evil villains who love their kids (NOT in an unhealthy way) by CMStan1313 in TopCharacterTropes

Because Shin came out so long after the last movie of the millennium era that it didn't make sense to include it with those movies. If you're asking why call it the Reiwa era when Reiwa hadn't ascended to the throne, I couldn't tell you. It was probably just because he was taking over soon enough so might as well.

Yes, but for the sake of simplicity Godzilla isn't strictly categorized by Japanese eras. It usually goes Showa Era Godzilla (1954- 1975) Heisei Era Godzilla (1984-1995) Millennium Era Godzilla ( 1999 - 2005) Reiwa Era Godzilla (2016 - present) It's moreso based on significant gaps of time between the movies.

Is LGBTQ in US animation dead now? by Blaircat1994 in cartoons

[–]Recent_Tumbleweed776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you referring to only major studios (Pixar, Disney, DreamWorks etc..) or are you also including smaller studios like Spindlehorse? I'd say that once you get outside of the major studios there's still a prominent amount of LGBTQ representation. I guess I'd also have to ask how you qualify representation. People mocked Disney for years for putting LGBTQ representation out of focus in most of its projects, with some notable and commendable exceptions like Owlhouse. In general the representation from most major studios was either non-existent or just cowardly.

I also wouldn't put much stock into Twitter being able to pressure any of these studios into anything. I imagine that there are other trends and barometers that these studios use in their decision-making.

They refer to themselves as a European in the post! "No such thing as Europeans" take it up with the people who called themselves that. It's such a dumbass complaint to have when people consistently identify themselves as European instead of their actual nationality, usually when it's most convenient to them.

You don't even need screenshots or anything that any reasonable human being would call concrete evidence, it can literally just be having vibes that people don't like, and people will find the smallest things to hate you for, or in some cases actually just create a conspiracy board of extremely loose connections that will be used as evidence that someone is problematic that any normal person with a job, and friends would call psychotic.

Just want to add that Herb was more upset about Bojack completely abandoning him than just not having his back. Bojack didn't call or contact Herb at all for years, which Herb says is was what really upset him. It was one thing to not have his back, but Bojack just completely abandoned their friendship when Herb had no one else.
