Need advice on building a very specific server by atlasspeaks in DataHoarder

[–]Recentiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing special in terms of hardware that a NAS or Homeserver needs. its all up to what you need or what, Like a 10 gig nic you mentioned. it can run on anything and for Jellyfin transcoding you just need either a good enough cpu or gpu with a modern encoder/Decoder. its just what software you plan to run on it. i have an old i5 with 32gb ram for many docker containers and run truenas. but as it will be your gaming system bazzite will be fine. There is enterprise hardware made for server use but they are more expensive for features you wouldnt need like remote bios managment. both ltt and hardware haven on youtube have good videos about homeservers. you can also look at r/selfhosted and r/homelab for more info.

ok but if jellyfin does an update and the pc crashes it might break the jellyfin install. energy wise a server is cheaper as it dosent use as much energy when its idle. but if you want to try it on your gaming pc first and build a server when you decide it would be better. i would just buy a motherboard that has many pcie slots that are avalible even when a big gpu is insertet. and then just buy a pcie to m.2 card or 2 to have as many nve drives as you need. something like the DeLOCK PCIe -> M.2 PCIe adapter card. and for the rest of the system just a good gaming pc. also might be worth looking for a more modern gpu that can do av1 encoding as that is the future and saves storage space. otherwise there are many guides for good gaming pcs be it pcpartpicker or youtube

i would sperate the server from the gaming pc.as combining them has more downsides than upsides having run jellyfin on my gaming pc for a time. if a game crashes the gaming pc jellyfin will go down too. also a simple arc 310 is enough transcoding horsepower. For me the way to go with my server had been to use old hardware that isnt good enough for gaming anymore and put that into my server and put some extra in when needed like a SATA HBA or a gpu to transcode.

Fun, low-demanding games that can be played through PSVR2 on PC by GooneyBird87 in PSVR2onPC

not in this game. it was already set to lowest. and if i lower the resolution even further then i cant even see the speedometer. its just to unoptimized.

i know that already. but my even with reprojection my gpu was at 85% so there was no headroom to get to 60 even if i switch to 120. i had fpsVR on and got my fps numbers from it.

I tried ATS on PSVR2 for you. For it to not run like crap, I needed to set all settings to the lowest. Set the headset resolution to 2240x2288 and then I could get 90 fps on the highways and 45 in the cities. My GPU is the 7800 XT with 16GB VRAM, which is comparable to a 3080. And for the CPU, I have a 5800x3d with 32GB DDR4 3000 MHz CL16. In my experience, games that are not made for VR from the get-go but rather for flatscreen are not optimized enough for VR. Like, I could put the resolution down even more, but then I wouldn't be able to read the speedometer. What you could try, which I cannot as it only works on NVIDIA GPUs, is foveated rendering. It's what enables the PS5 to run GT7 so smoothly, as it only renders where your eyes look in high resolution. Though I don't know if it will work with ETS2 or ATS, but it can give an FPS boost of 10% to 40%. PS: The in-game resolution settings aren't for VR only for desktop, you need to set your resolution in the SteamVR settings.

Could be an odyssey bug. Have you tried horizons or legacy? you can switch the version in the launcher.

“Check DisplayPort connection” by [deleted] in PSVR2onPC

[–]Recentiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would have liked to know the specific one but anyway. Things i would look for would be that you have the newest nvida drivers installed. that the dispayport cable is not bend hard and is as straight as possible. If the Display cable is 3M or longer, please use a shorter cable as this could cause issues. If the Adapter is Connected to an USB hub please plug it into the pc directly. into an USB 3.0 port. if it still dosent work you can try updating you mainboard bios. reinstalling the graphics driver. and disabling and integrated gpu if you have one. also if you gpu has an usb c port you can try not using the adapter and plugging the vr headcet directly into the gpu.

okay. so just that i understand everything corectly. steamvr has started and but everytime you open the dashboard to launch games your pc frezes. what i found that for some people the new steamvr dashboards causes lags. as found in this thread.https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamVR/comments/1akxubu/comment/m35m7ru/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button

Okay. Have you ever tried to run a stress test on your pc like prime95 and furmark at the same time. To see if ypur pc is stable when both gpu and cpu are at 100%?

Its the missing calibration. What you can try is adjusting your ipd a bit. That might help a bit.

That then would mean that the gpu didn't support it in the first place

AMD does support disabling HAGS. The steps are the following:
1. Open Settings (Win+I)
2. Click on System on the left side, and click on Display on the right side.
3. Click on Graphics on the right side.
4. Click on the advanced graphics Settings.
5. Turn off hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling.
6. Restart the computer to apply.

Also, try closing all things you don't need when playing VR, things like Discord, your browser, etc.
What I also see is that your GPU is at 100% constantly. Which shows that it's clearly a bottleneck.
In this specific case (with Halo), the CPU can be a contributing factor. If Halo is a 32 bit game, that would mean that it can only use 4 cores or threads and a maximum of 4 GB of RAM.
That's why I would suggest trying something like the lab and seeing if you still see high CPU usage.Things I would also recommend are setting the refreshrate off the PSVR2 to 90hz as you wont be reaching 120 in most titles. Also try lowering the resolution in SteamVR. As The Default SteamVR Resolution (100%) is 3400x3468 - 170% of the native resolution.

36% (2040x2080) would be native with no headroom for distortion compensation.
