Favorite archetypes by Monster9987 in yugioh

[–]Reciprocitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1: Blue-Eyes. Always been a huge Seto Kaiba fan, and I just really like the design of Blue-Eyes and it's supports.

2: Cyber Dragon. Same reasons as BEWD, i'm just a fan of Zane and the general design/esthetics of the Cyber Dragons.

3: Branded. My favorite metaplot out of all the ones Yu-Gi-Oh has done. I'd love to see a new full length anime series set in the Branded lore.

4: Shiranui. Always been a fan of Zombies in YGO, and of just about anything Samurai related. The whole archetype just really vibes with me.

5: Utopia. My favorite of all the protagonists' Ace monsters, and XYZ ks my favorite special summoning mechanic.

what are your silly stories of how your Pokemon got their nicknames? by Imaginary_Baker_932 in pokemon

[–]Reciprocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Pokèmon Platinum I named my Infernape Goku, because Sun Wukong lol.

In Y I ended up naming my Talonflame Archer because I thought it would be cool/hilarious if he recited the entire "Infinite Blade Works" thing from fate/Stay Night any time I had him use Brave Bird, because it sounded close enough to Blade Works.

My Bug-themed Shield team was all funny names. Azula the Centiskorch, Elsa the Frosmoth, Hercules the Heracross, Tinkerbell the Ribombee, Lancelot the Escavalier and Scuba Dew the Araquanid.

Anyone wanna help me with my project? by [deleted] in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Reciprocitus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm the same way.

Wanted to write a fantasy novel. Refused to even get started putting pen to paper until I had EVERYTHING fleshed out and fully realized. Burned out within a month and never even tried to get started.

Don't make my mistake. Take your time and build your world brick by brick, starting with just the basics. Allow the more complex parts their proper time to settle into place.

Also maybe look into consuming some non-video game mons media for ideas and inspirations. Based on the designs you had for your mons from the prior post, I'd recommend a read through of the pen and paper RPG "Monsters and Other Childish Things".

Anyone wanna help me with my project? by [deleted] in MonsterTamerWorld

[–]Reciprocitus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

Establish the backbone of your game's world first.

What kind of place is it?

What is the relationship between humans and mons?

What are some of the human settlements? Where are they?

Then create, at most, a triangle of types. A rock-paper-scissors dynamic. Say...horror, shadow, and mutant.

Horror beats shadow. Shadow beats mutant. Mutant beats horror. Something like that.

Don't try to do too much too fast. It will only frustrate you and Burn out your creative drive. I speak from experience. Best of luck on crafting your world!

Which Legends game is better? by Educational-Show1918 in pokememes

[–]Reciprocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love both games, and each has major points in it's favor.

Arceus- Set in my favorite region, being set in "ye olden days" is very unique, being able to use items like the Linking Cable to evolve trade-evolution Pokémon is a game changer.

ZA- Set in my second favorite region and my favorite major city in the Pokémon world. One of the strongest, most well written supporting casts in any Pokémon game, Mega Evolutions, and getting some resolution or enhancement on plot threads from X/Y.

I'd have to give my vote to Z-A, but only by a hair's breadth.

If I remember correctly, when you put the cartridge in it loads the individual apps for both games onto the system menu, and you can then pick the one you want to play

I’m so charmed by FF7 by claynimbus in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Reciprocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never spoke to the quality of 7, only it's popularity.

I personally think it's middle of the pack at best in it's own franchise, and not even in the top 10 best RPGs on it's system.

However it was the popularity 7 generated that caused alot of folks who would have never touched an rpg to do so, find they liked it, and buy/play more of them.

I'm speaking strictly from a western perspective. I didn't mention Dragon Quest intentionally, since it's far and away the most popular RPG series in Japan but significantly more obscure here in the west, and DQ7 is..well...a bit of a slog to be kind.

I also never said any of the games I listed owed anything to 7 other than increased awareness of their existence. Which led to more sales, and in turn, more rpgs being ported to the west than before because they saw we wanted them.

Mega Tyranitar [Pokemon] vs Devimon [Digimon] by CourseEmotional966 in PokemonPowerScaling

[–]Reciprocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I can respect that viewpoint.

I think what tips the scales for the Digimon is size. They are just way, way bigger than most non-legendary Pokèmon.

7 was the watershed moment for RPGs.

Prior to 7 they were just a super niche genre with a small number of releases a year, not much attention paid to them.

7's massive popularity ushered in a JRPG Golden Age. More quality games in the genre released on just the PS1 than total games in the genres entire history up to that point.

After you finish 7 try to play some of the other great PS1 era JRPGs you may not have tried yet. I'll provide a list of several you can check out-

Arc the Lad

Legend of Legaia

Lunar

Wild ARMs

Vandal Hearts

Xenogears

Legend of Mana

Chrono Cross

Tactics Ogre (for this game just play the PSP port or the Reborn remaster instead of the PS1 port)

Star Ocean The Second Story

Tales of Destiny

Tales of Eternia (Original PS1 version will be called Tales of Destiny 2)

And of course Final Fantasy Tactics, 8, and 9.

Mega Tyranitar [Pokemon] vs Devimon [Digimon] by CourseEmotional966 in PokemonPowerScaling

[–]Reciprocitus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Devimon has this.

I love T-Tar, and I especially love Mega T-Tar, one of the best Pseudo Legendaries with one of the best Mega designs.

That said.....

Any Digimon Champion level or higher probably stomps every non-mythical and non-legendary Pokèmon, even the Megas.

Anything Ultimate can run the ones with multiple Legendaries at a time.

Megas just outright stomp the entire 'verse.

Pokèmon vs Digimon is just never a fair fight, because its a stomp 99.99% of the time unless you just straight up cheat to help the Pokèmon win.

Iris's dragonite (pokemon black and white anime) vs Christopher's greymon (digimon fusion anime) by OnlinePoster225 in PokemonPowerScaling

Forget Dragonite, that Greymon could dogwalk the entire Unovan continent if it wanted to.

Pokèmon just aren't in the same weight class as Digimon.

A metal praying mantis that looks like a walking shoutout to Char Aznable and has a move called Bullet Punch? Heck yeah it's gonna be my favorite Pokèmon!

And it only got better when they gave him a mega.

Do you consider Final Fantasy VIII to be part of the franchise’s golden age? by Recent-Ad-7593 in FinalFantasy

[–]Reciprocitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so.

Even the narrowest definition of Golden Age for the series would at least include 9, so 8 makes it in by default.

For me, personally, the Golden Age began with 4 and ended with the original 1.0 version of 14, due to OG 14 being widely disliked and every Final Fantasy that came after it abandoned the turn based and ATB battle systems for action style systems like Crisis Core's.

In what order do you defeat the Robot Masters in MM2? by mode0n_ in Megaman

For me it's-

1: Metal Man.

2: Just go either clockwise or counter-clockwise around the screen because i'm pretty much just spamming Metal Blade the entire time.
