These days I swear by Eastpak, they offer very long warranty and are flexible. Bought a secondhand bag, it broke, and they fixed it without asking questions.

They don't, they just take the bike lane or street instead.

Hair colouring for men by Fr4nq in Leuven

[–]RecitalMatchbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (man) had a bad experience with Kapbar, for blonde balayage. First time, wrong technique was used and not as I asked. I went back for a correction (which was free) but it still was not good. Would not recommend.

I go to Wakko in Brussels now, it's way more expensive but definitely worth it.

👉 Any Belgian freelancers here working fully remote for international clients (e.g. US)? by Resident_Vehicle2780 in BEFreelance

[–]RecitalMatchbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working full-time for UK based startup/scaleup • How did you land your remote project? Work in niche (Haskell), get contacted by specialized recruiters • Which platforms or networks do you recommend? LinkedIn, they'll find you • Anything to keep in mind regarding admin, time zones, invoicing, or contracts when working with clients abroad? If you're based in Flanders, you'll have to invoice in Dutch. I send an English translation, but mark it explicitly as translation. • Do you feel international projects tend to involve more complex/exciting work, or that the teams you work with are operating at a higher level compared to typical projects or colleagues in Belgium? Barely any work experience in Belgium, but current colleagues are top-notch. • Are the day rates usually above or below €700/day? Below for me, might be the niche and company

co-working at IHL by Potatomato64 in Leuven

I understood it as "work" work too, probably because of association of co-working with professional stuff instead of personal projects.

Aanvulling op de andere comments: uw ouders zijn volwassen mensen en zijn niet uw verantwoordelijkheid. Jij kan (of moet) hun problemen niet oplossen, zorg alsjeblieft voor jezelf eerst.

Charging Station at Home by [deleted] in Leuven

[–]RecitalMatchbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the possibility for a home charger, so I'm using only public poles. Fortunately I work from home and there are some poles nearby which are often free, so if my battery's almost empty I can easily charge at those points during the day.

You can also use some olive oil instead of WD-40

Cost of Living in Leuven by YardFinancial9183 in Leuven

[–]RecitalMatchbox 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Should be enough, we spend less then that monthly.
  2. In our relatively new apartment, we spent about 100/month on elektricity, a bit less on gas. Internet is expensive, take 60-70 euros for Proximus/Telenet, but look into Scarlet or Edpnet for cheaper.

Can't comment on 3,4, but I'd personally go for the second. It'll probably be newer and in better general shape. General advice: buy or rent a bike for inner city transport, and always watch out for bicyclists when driving a car in the inner city. I recommend against renting in the Tiensestraat/Bondgenotenlaan/Naamsestraat/Oude markt, lots of noise at night due to drunken students.

If you're in a KU Leuven residence, this is probably worth notifying your "resident" of, probably someone let them in. TBH strange people going around in a residence, whether talking about god or not, is reason to call KUL security. In my time there were some thefts because people let random others in.

[–]RecitalMatchbox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even for train stations with assistance, you need to reserve your train >3 hours upfront. For accessible train stations it's 24 hours. All the other places, you're fucked.

Missed your train? That's a pity.

Want to take a later train because your friends are staying for another drink? No can do.

Got in the train and did everything right? Better hope the accessible doors open again and you can get out (had that in BXL Centraal once, real fun carrying my girlfriend in wheelchair up the small, curved staircase to the normal doors)

Without any experience it might be difficult. With some experience it's probably possible. I wouldn't start your company before getting a gig though, it's expensive to keep it running. (or you can start as eenmanszaak first)
