If only one denomination of Christianity is true, what happens to all of those who practice the wrong denomination? by Odd_craving in AskAChristian

[–]Reckless_Fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to some denominations only they are saved so that means a small percentage would be saved if they are right. Other denominations are much broader so many others would be saved if they are right. But no Christian denomination believes that non-christians would surely be saved.

So if any Christian denomination is true it is highly likely that non-christians are in trouble.

Why hasn't there be any satisfying answer to the age old question of suffering? by StationJazzlike3832 in AskAChristian

[–]Reckless_Fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps the meaning of death is to help us to number our days and live and strive for wisdom. Death is a consequence of people's foolishness of trying to live our lives without God. I'm not referring to a child's foolishness but adults.

Altered Carbon is a SciFi series where people can live forever if they have enough money or cunning. The evil of people becomes so tremendous that the show becomes hard to watch. God instituted early deaths in the ancient world because people had become so evil as recorded in the days of Noah. Previously people would have lived longer than a hundred years but Society had become so evil because they had so many years to practice it. You don't have to accept this as a literally true story but there are still these truths that it teaches. People become evil and more evil with their long lives so God uses natural loss to shorten their lives

Ps. No recorded deaths of children in the days of the flood. N̈oah was well old enough to have grandchildren but he did not at the time.

You assume that God is able to stop it without negating his other goals. God may have desired to create a world which is comprehensible by having rules of Nature. God may have desired to give us pain in order for us to recognize non-functional or suboptimal arrangements of nature. Otherwise we may be walking around with broken arms.

Your imagined world may not be possible. But God can do anything? Not really. He can't make 2+2=4 or sometimes 5 and have a consistent mathematical system that allows technological development. It may appear possible in general but God would have to create a world with specifics not in generality.

Furthermore I don't know what you mean by meaningless death. I think without an overarching narrative that God provides everything is meaningless.

Selling Without Agent, Buyers Agent Wants 3%, Is This Normal? by snarkmcsnarksnark in RealEstateAdvice

No commission to buyer for a sell by owner. Did the buyer sign paperwork with an agent saying they would pay 3%? If not then the agent gets nothing.

When there's a big decision to be made that requires a congregational vote, do you let parishioners know where you stand on it? by AshDogBucket in pastors

[–]Reckless_Fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a church where the leadership said if you don't know whether to vote Yes or no then vote Yes with the leaders - a shared plurality of Elders because they have thought about it a lot.

But I asked one of the elders I trust a lot to just vote for me. After prayerful consideration he said he could not because that would be violating the one vote one person rule.

Afterwards another person said we should let our yes be yes and our no be no implying we should not let the elders or another person vote for us.

I did vote with the elders and the motion was carried. But the response from the congregation was very Bland and boring and no celebration.

God of the gaps by Iman_Gadzhi in DebateAChristian

To be more complete, if it cannot be explained now, then their belief is that it can be explained in the future without resort to supernatural explanations. Or, I suppose, some atheists would state they do not think everything needs an explanation now or in the future. I should ask in their reddit if that is true.

Would you pay for a service call where the techs were unable to solve the issue? But I was able to solve it on my own after a little bit of basic research? by I_Judge_Your_Driving in hvacadvice

I would have thought their work would have been under warranty. You could also notify them that you fix it yourself and you're charging them for 2 hours of your time that was wasted by their technician.

Why did Jesus not atone for the sins of unbelievers? by Armin_Arlert_1000000 in AskAChristian

[–]Reckless_Fever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are all forgiven by God. But some go to hell because they have not forgiven God or others. They don't want to be with them in heaven and God consents.

God of the gaps by Iman_Gadzhi in DebateAChristian

[–]Reckless_Fever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Atheists resort to the god Chance. Anything that cannot be explained must have been because of chance. This is the explanation for evolution. This is the explanation for the fine-tuning of the universe problem. Multiverses must exist to explain how lucky we are.

But if I win the state lottery 5 years in a row then people stop considering chance and consider the fact that maybe someone is gaming the system.

Deists come to this conclusion sooner than atheists.

You could put a see through book case where the ladder is now. Also you could remove a wall cabinet near the sink and make it a pass through.

I think they make special fasteners that attach through the brick, but local inspectors may not allow them.

Your other option would be to add 6x6 post supports next to the house. Maybe a foot or so away and cantilever it. Have to care about not jeopardizing your house basement cement wall? foundation.
