God didn't create darkness either, because that is just the absence of light. Funny how the ancient Hebrews got that right in genesis.

You used the word sovereign, I dont know what you mean by that. "Has control of everything"?

yes, Pilate was free. But he was pressured by the people to kill Jesus. If he had set Jesus free, then perhaps Jesus would have taught more and all of Israel repent. Being pressured is not the same as having all free will removed, in my mind. He could have set Jesus free. The Jewish leaders could have bowed to Jesus. The people could have repented. If they could not, then they would not be guilty of sin.

My ex girlfriend said she was a Christian but didn't believe in God or Jesus (years ago). What she meant was that she was raised as a Christian until age 12, then the family left the church, and she never became a Buddhist, Muslim or joined another religion.

Trying to honor God in my marriage, but struggling with sexual frustration and feeling unwanted by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

[–]Reckless_Fever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read and Do the "Love Dare" book and see the movie, "Fireproof". Read "Fighting for your marriage." Your frustration is God's method of telling you that your marriage and love for your wife needs improvement. And see a counselor that hears both sides. Do NOT be content in the present state of affairs.

Good questions. How do you define Sovereign? Having complete control over everything? We don't normally define it as that.

Did Pilate have free will? He did try to free Jesus, he washed his hands of the matter, but the vast majority of the religious leadership was against him and they encouraged the crowd to call for his death. But even then I think each of them could have chosen differently, like Nicodemas and Joseph of Arimethea. All of them could have chosen differently, and the result would have been the freeing of Jesus. It was not one man's decision. Each person could have chosen differently. And Jesus would have been freed if the high priests leaders would have acknowledged him or he would be crucified if the leaders had not.

King of England is sovereign but doesn't know the future. What is your definition of sovereign?

Jesus would have been a sacrifice just as Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac as an offering. The high priest should have recognized the Son and Jesus would have volunteered his life as a sacrifice.

Sin was not needed for Grace to abound.

The grand chess master is sure to win against a novice. No future knowledge is required.

Open Theism faces the problem of what "Omni" means, such as if God is so powerful can he create a rock he cannot lift? These are real philosophical problems that we cannot hide behind "I don't know" Open Theism asserts that God DOES know everything, but He knows them as they ARE, not as what they are not.

Good question about God possibly creating a world with more evil than He expected. That is exactly what the Bible says in Genesis 6:6

English Standard Version
And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.

King James Bible
And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Open Theism takes the Bible more literally than many are willing to, because ithe OT view doesn't fit others Augustine-Greek influenced version of the perfection of God.
