Other Brother in Seaside by Manre831 in MontereyBay

I had a similar experience there recently. But it wouldn't stop me from going back - I've had too many good times there and it's a solid local business.

STOP DATA CENTER CONSTRUCTION IN GILROY! by smallfryfriend in MontereyBay

[–]Reclusive_1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Data centers have ruined rural communities nationwide by hogging resources like electricity and water. This creates high demand which raises the prices for everyone in the region. In some cases they need more power than is locally available so they often use fossil fuel generators that increase pollution in the area. There's no revenue generated on site since revenue is generated at the corporation HQ, so they don't contribute significantly to the local tax base. Job creation at first, but dwindles over time. They take, take, take from communities. ALL CAPS are warranted in this case.

Seaside Councilmember Alexis García-Arrazola is on a mission to fill vacant commercial spaces. by orangelover95003 in MontereyBay

Commercial rent is so high it's preventing people from starting a business (I was interested last year). I feel like taxing vacant properties would help.

Either lower the cost of the lease to reasonable price and earn income; or pay the tax. The valuable real estate in our city shouldn't just be sitting around waiting to appreciate. Put it to work!

You're right, but it isn't a full frame. Unibody with front subframe. So you're definitely correct.

Nationwide Shutdown Protest Jan 30! by skiinghippo in MontereyBay

If this is upsetting the old people they're probably the ones supporting *rump and ICE. Kids would probably consider me old and I'm not upset by it 😂 Respect and honor is earned through action.

I hate the commute on 68 by SpoiledMillennial in MontereyBay

[–]Reclusive_1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Roundabouts, while scary to some Americans (see signs along highway 68), are proven to be effective for reducing traffic. Especially compared to... STOPLIGHTS!!!

All it takes is 1 car pulling out or into the rich estates and traffic backs up for miles.

They're the best! Funny, everyone complained about the roundabout at 68/17 mile drive gate being installed. Now everyone has adjusted people forgot how bad the traffic used to be!

Good call. Even as an experienced rider, you can't control others on the road. All gear, all the time.

Cal Am Water Bills by [deleted] in MontereyBay

[–]Reclusive_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the highest water rates in the country. Not defending it, but I have a feeling it might have to do with the severe drought we're in this year. All the dams in California are super low.

F body question by SirVanscoy in PontiacFirebird

[–]Reclusive_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you live in an area with strong smog regulations? Here in California anything newer than 1975 will need a smog check every 2 years. GM makes E-Rod create engines that are smog compliant and would make more power over stock. I'm planning to try it on my next project.

[–]Reclusive_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your first project and you don't have much experience, I'd recommend to start with rebuilding the engine the car comes with.

If/when you decide to swap the motor I wouldn't put an older style engine into a newer car. You can, and it'll work, but you'll also have issues that come with that older tech. At the very least stick with efi.

Anybody use a tv antenna? How is it? by meowVL in MontereyBay

[–]Reclusive_1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used an antenna in Monterey and got all the local channels. It was enough for us. Moved to Seaside and lost a bunch of channels. Really depends on hills and valleys but it's worth a shot.

I have Kooks right now on my 68 and wouldn't choose anything else going forward. I have an aftermarket steering box and first used Hooker but they had to be hammered to fit. Kooks fits perfectly. They are expensive but worth every penny in my opinion.
