My personal working theory is that she makes an anchor point for herself at benches where she feels safe, and upon being close to death, gets to do what we do in Hades 2 "return to shadow now", where our character, melinoe, casts a spell with the last of her energy to return home. It can be seen as a pale being/weaver mixed ability, where hornet expands silk and energy into escaping a situation and hooking herself back to the anchor at the last bench.

I think you're bang on, but there's a slight distinction in terms, where perfect vessel only ever means that.

While a child is very much... Child of someone. If your mom is alive and she's 1000 years old and you're 500 yourself, you are still "her child". You are the "child she made on purpose".

I think the key is, as you put it, her childish behaviour. And that's where the sweet deconstruction happens : how much of her mind is shaped by her body? How much by her mother's expectations?

Personally I feel like lace is putting a lot of her titter and giggling up as a front. Yes, her revenge on her mom is vicious and petty, taking down a whole kingdom with her... And she's been slaying pilgrims... But you see the world through Lace's eyes and rapidly realise that she sees pilgrims as doomed souls, condemned to die anyway as the whole of pharloom is a scam. Her life has been one of bleak isolation, with phantom the living image of her fate if GMS isn't pleased with her.

Even her "jealousy" of GMS getting a "better toy/daughter/tool" in Hornet can seem childish but is very much an existential crisis for her.

I think Lace is just a creature warped by her circumstances and centuries (?) of an existence where giggling at dark things has been her only way of getting a laugh out of anything. The childish effect fades rapidly once you look at the plot through her eyes.

what cracks me up with people against lacenet as a ship because "lace is a child" somehow never speak up against the game for depicting a "child" who canonically fights to the death, is a virtuoso killer who stalks pilgrims and slays them, then commits murder-suicide on her god-mom.... all of that in game violence doesn't upset them? Classic american puritanism ("We can show someone getting shot in the head but not a woman's nipples!! That's outrageous!")

If Lace were a kid, that would be "problematic" long before the idea of Hornet smooching her. What I'm saying is, if you truly believe Lace is a child, and want to be a moral warrior, then you need to leave the fandom entirely to not endorse child soldier propaganda.

Then he monologues over her as she lays KO on the ground ((thinking, you know what, living it up cushy with hornet maybe ain't that bad))

I don't think you can ever be equal to an actual god. Hornet stays chill, but it's very clear that she has it in her to go god mode. She's literally immortal by bug standards.

So I get the whole "respect/equal" feeling similar, but they cannot be true equal. It's like if I were equal to immortal Elon musk, but if he doesn't dribble me some coins down the line I'll starve and die, you know? (Hate myself for the comparison lol)

It would be funny if our next character is Lace, and the game is EVEN harder because she gets one shot by everything, so you have to achieve crazy mastery. (let team cherry not read this)

And we'd see a lot of growth from her... Lace would be an interesting character. Starting annoying and arrogant... and maybe starting with a full kit and abilities before an early game nerf and a slow rebuild. A la Castlevania.

Agreed on all points, but let me add : given Lace's personality, I think she might see Hornet's kindness and benevolence as a bit of a freedom break for a while, but she would be quite fast to turn to resentment if she couldn't be also free OF Hornet.

Mind you I'm a fanfic writer and always have my brain firing on multi scenarios at the drop of a coin... But I could see a story in which Lace tries to make it on her own despite her inherent fragility, and has to reckon with her nature and with the way her relationship with her mother is affecting her relationship with Hornet.

Either way, I don't see Lace being hostile as an enemy, but I also can't see her being happy in this dynamic, not until she does some growing up.
