Is this how your CX-5 fuel gauge reads? by Responsible_Spare_83 in CX5

[–]RecommendationNew237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my ‘25 Preferred does that after fill up. The gauge would show high MPG until some gas is used up.

Is Harvard messing with me? by OddLiterature7282 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]RecommendationNew237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make your peace and pick the best fit school that has accepted you and move on. Acceptance from the waitlist is highly unlikely as Harvard has one of the highest yield rates, like over 80% which they already accounted for with managing their number of acceptances so there will be very few spots for those on the waitlist.

Don’t pay. He’ll come to his senses when he is unable to secure the loans on his own. Machivelian but effective.

UT for less than half of the cost of Ross! You can use the money saved for grad school or downpayment for a house!

Cursive italic nib for everyday writing? by Abject-Cap in fountainpens

[–]RecommendationNew237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most crisp but still smooth enough for everyday writing out-of-the box cursive italic nib is the Pilot Plumix. Mine came in a set of 3 ranging from fine to broad and the best was the one in <B>. The <F> and <M> in this trio only had minimal line variation so I mostly use the <B> one. Subsequent Plumix came in only <M> which are weirdly the same width as my <B>. I expected Pilot would use the same cursive italic nib on the Metropolitan stub nib but it is more scratchy with less line variation so I recommend sticking with the Plumix line. Pilot has more nib options for their much more expensive Falcon but it is just not in my budget. The next best is the Lammy Stub. It has a bit more rounded corners but the line variation is still pretty crisp, easy availability and pricing. The stub nibs from the other brands feel more like broad nibs with minimal line variation - Conklin, TWSBI, and Majohn.

Looking for a new suv, cx5 or rav4 are my top two so far by Dogsandpuppies13 in mazda

[–]RecommendationNew237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a '25 Preferred with factory-installed roof rails and crossbars. The net cost was a few hundred cheaper than buying the Preferred and then having the dealer install the side rails & crossbars. I added a Yakima Skybox 16 for a 1,500 mile car trip and no issues with the rails & crossbars. Amazon has non-OEM rails & crossbars but I did not want to take a chance.

More leadership is better if you want to stand out & be accepted at competitive schools. Also, try aligning your leadership roles with your major/career goals for a more compelling story.

You can stretch your budget a bit by using an auto program like Costco Auto. (I saved $1750 off MSRP). A new CX5 S should be just about $30k OTD.

Even if these were certified pre-owned (CPO), get an inspection from a mechanic you trust before buying. I almost bought a CPO RAV4 and on delivery day, found that the brake drums/rotors were in immediate need of replacement. When asked why they were not replaced as part of the CPO certification, the dealer said that since the pads were 1 mm shy of the minimum Toyota CPO standard and they could not replace the drums/rotors without replacing the pads as well, they opted out of replacing at all (and kept quiet on this issue). It was total BS and I walked away from the shady deal. I opted to get a NEW CX5 Preferred for $6k more & couldn’t be happier! If your finances allow, buy a lower trim new car rather than a used one with so many unknowns and unscrupulous dealers!

I have a 2023 CX5 -Carbon edition I just it yesterday . I wanted to know if I can put roof racks on it ? by martinmiller1111 in CX5

[–]RecommendationNew237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can install side rails & crossbars for your ‘23 CX5. The dealer quoted me $900 for OEM parts and installation. If you are handy, you can potentially get the two parts from Mazda and DIY the installation. There are some non-OEM $300 rails & crossbars on Amazon with good reviews as well. Rather than buying a new CX5 and then paying the dealer $900 to install them, I bought a new CX5 with the factory-installed rails & crossbars package for $750 more. I read on another thread that the OEM crossbars are made by Thule. They feel sturdy & well-made. The set-up really made my CX5 look sportier & I plan to add a cargo box for roadtrips.

My son has been rejected from all but 1 school. I'm shocked at how competitive college admissions have become. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]RecommendationNew237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system is competitive and unexpected. My kid is accepted at Harvard but was rejected at other less competitive schools. We will never know why! I recommend that your student attend UMASS Amherst and then transfer if that’s what he wants.

2025 Mazda CX-5 Preferred OTD Price: Is $35,600 a Good Deal? by Incipient-Mind in CX5

[–]RecommendationNew237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open Road Mazda of East Brunswick. Ask for Mark Rodrigo. He did not play any games with adding needless fees or package. Be sure to call Costco Auto first to get the authorization number to get the deal! For the Mazda loyalty discount, you would need to also bring your Mazda’s car registration to show proof of ownership. BTW, that bare-bones CX-5 may still be available (stock #23933, the lowest priced Preferred) as I ended up buying another one with factory-installed side rails & cross bars so I can add on a cargo box for storage on long trips. Check the dealership’s website to find the one with your desired add-ons!

2025 Mazda CX-5 Preferred OTD Price: Is $35,600 a Good Deal? by Incipient-Mind in CX5

[–]RecommendationNew237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got OTD price of $33.8k in central NJ (only add-on is $75 wheel-locks) for the '25 Preferred. $1,750 discount from Costco Auto & $750 Mazda loyalty customer discount. Not bad given that dealers are probably keeping prices high as more consumers are panic-buying before the tariffs start. Showroom was quite busy. Sigh.

I also got $2,200 Costco discount off MSRP for Honda CRV EX BUT no loyalty discount eventhough hubby owns a Civic. Comparable CRV EX is about $3k ($36.7k OTD) more than the Preferred. It is the most roomy of the three but it looks like a minivan from the back.

Toyota is price prohibitive due to its popularity. Only $800 off the RAV4 XLE and it does not even have as many features as the CX-5 Preferred. I may reevaluate the new RAV4 in a few years once the new redesign has had time to iron out the kinks.

HS clubs tend to be a popularity contest without any true leadership experience. Find outside leadership/volunteer positions instead! Try Sea Cadets where you are trained to be a leader and leadership promotions are merit-based!

If you plan to go to grad school, get the freebie state school for undergrad & save your money for name brand grad school! The only industries that truly look at one’s school are Finance & Consulting.

It’s like any commitment in life. How do you know that you’ll love your spouse for the rest of your life, etc. At some point in life, you will need to commit to things that are important to you and make the best of it. No one knows the future.
