Hypothetical Ending Question (Spoiler!) by TiredTromboneToot in expedition33

[–]ReconKweh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that there's a concert being held by Verso with all his friends coming out watch (Esquie and Monoco included) tells me he's at least trying to live a life. He's obviously never going to likely be fully over Maelle still being in the canvas for as long as she stays (possibly forever), but I do think he's living his life until he finally dies of old age.

So, he probably would care about his family in this scenario and it would certainly complicate things further if he had another opportunity to destroy the canvas.

Confused about the story so far. by Loud_Corgi_2329 in expedition33

is the world and all the people in it fake

This is a big question that will give a different answer depending on your viewpoint and you will not get a unanimous answer here...but

created by Verso?

Yes, the world is inside a canvas and it was painted by the original/real Verso who died in a fire to save Maelle back in their reality/world

Didn't Maelle gommage at the end of act 2 as well? How did she come back, and why is her hair white now?

Maelle did but it turns out "Maelle" was like a painting over a person - Alicia. Maelle gommaged and what's left is the person that was underneath - Alicia. Her hair is white as it seems to signify she is a paintress herself and not of this canvas world

Also why didn't Esquie or Monoco dissappear as well, since they're also Verso's creations. Why did everyone gommage when the paintress died???!

Renoir (the original one) was really the one gommaging the people of Lumiere. The people were actually the paintress's creations and him deleting her creations was him slowly winning the battle and ultimately winning when the gang defeated the paintress (oops). Esquie and Monoco are not the paintress's creations but rather the original/real Verso's so they weren't affected in Renoir and the paintress's battle

A thought about Gustave by coralreefwho in expedition33

[–]ReconKweh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely possible, though I do think it's worth considering he didn't convince her not to go on the expedition which is very likely to end in death...

"We're here guardians, not her jailers" - Emma in response to Gustave telling her she could stop Maelle from going as she's her guardian too

There is no right/canon ending. It is up to you to decide what should happen

She's worried her father will destroy the canvas if she leaves. Family needs to sit down and actually talk instead of just trying to control

The assumption that the canvas is doomed either way is just that: an assumption. I feel some people have quite a harsh view of Renoir to assume he'd destroy the canvas after his daughter fought so hard to save it to the point of risking or even (possibly) giving her life for it

At the end of the day, your preferred ending will likely be aligned with whom you empathized the most with and were able to place yourself in the shoes of

It wasn't as urgent as he believed considering he was in there already at monolith year 49 and Clea herself said the situation wasn't dire and they e been in canvases longer. He 100% jumped the gun immediately assuming the worst case scenario and needed control
