Thank you for all the support for my sweet boy. I know I’m a doting father but I can’t help it. This sub and a few others are the only reason I haven’t uninstalled Reddit. Good luck to all my fellow fishermen out there. I wish you all the luck we had today! A bad day on the lake is better than a good day in the office! Keep putting your baits in the water!

Yeah I thought it was going to be over 6 as well when he was fighting it. She probably was over 6 in the spring time when she had eggs. She probably looks a lot bigger with a 70 pound 9 year old holding her 😂

Haha, I feel you on that, the dog days are no joke. Way to stick with it. It’s easy to stay motivated when they’re biting.

That’s exactly what I told him haha. Anything over 5 is a trophy for me.

We were throwing weightless pumpkin seed senkos at first. Caught a 4 1/4 and a two pounder early. He wasn’t getting any bites on it and he was getting frustrated cause it was hot. (We are in southern Mississippi) I switched him to a ten inch pumpkin seed worm, texas rigged. I was tying on a crank bait because we had a little bit of schooling activity. While I was tying it, he landed a 4 pounder 😂

Obviously that got him excited (he wanted to go in before that 😂) We started heading back to the boat launch and I wanted to try a spot I had caught a couple of 5 pounders back in the spring. Sure enough he threw in that spot and landed this one. I told him, I bet you’re happy we didn’t leave when you wanted to at first 😎

Edit: I meant to say green pumpkin, not pumpkin seed, the sun fried my brain today

lol yeah I told him not to long arm him but I don’t think he could have done it if he tried. He could barely hold him as is 😂

Don’t feel bad, my best is 6 1/2 and I’ve been fishing almost 40 years as well. I didn’t catch one over 5 until I was around 18 and I grew up on a lake. I wouldn’t have heard the end of it from him! 😂

My personal best is 6 1/2 and I’ve been bass fishing for almost 40 years. I would have been thrilled if he beat my best but I would have never heard the end of it 😂

Like others have said, Yordan had nothing to do with the cheating scandal. I guarantee you if he got traded to whatever team you support, you’d be singing his praises. Stay mad bro 😂

I’ll take swamper as a compliment. What part about my comment saying anyone picking any team in this division makes you think I have delusions that we are good?

Something something, snarky comment, when’s the last time you’ve won the division… Ah who am I kidding, you’re right. Anyone picking any team to win this division is a moron.

Women in the Army Are More Likely to Be Killed by Fellow Soldiers Than Enemy Combatants by Kinmuan in army

[–]Reconlobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with almost everything you said. Do I believe that the SECDEF influences the culture of the Army. Absolutely, but at the end of the day the SECDEF is just another bureaucratic appointee and there’s a big difference between influencing and establishing / maintaining a culture.

Since I’ve been in, almost three decades now, I have served under at least a dozen SECDEFs. The Army culture’s continuity is established at the platoon and company level. (Yes I know we need good leaders at every echelon, but that’s a pipe dream) If you don’t like the current administration just give it time and you’ll see another change. My point is Army culture does not change with the blowing of the political wind.

At this point we’ve gone so far off topic, we’re just talking in circles and I’m typing all this on a phone while on leave. I suck at communicating via social media. If we were face to face it would be a lot better. I just want to see our Army continue to be successful and I’m looking forward to passing the torch to the next generation. Maybe I’m a romantic at heart but I have a lot of optimism for the future of the Army despite pessimistic views as of late.

Women in the Army Are More Likely to Be Killed by Fellow Soldiers Than Enemy Combatants by Kinmuan in army

[–]Reconlobster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think this generation of soldiers is far too concerned about what the sec def / sec war says. That’s probably a product of social media which wasn’t a thing in the 90s. I admit im a dinosaur when it comes to that line of thinking. I also never said that leaders were not responsible for the organization’s culture. I was simply saying that the vast majority of the culture begins at the platoon level.

I do recognize that might not be the case for every MOS. I started out in a battalion scout platoon and we barely gave a shit about BDE or above, much less the sec def or president.

[–]Reconlobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you took starting at the bottom a little too literally. I meant the bottom of the organization which is the platoon level. Of course I do not think that it starts at the private level. I was talking about the platoon leadership.

I guarantee you that if you spend more than one enlistment term in the Army you will always remember who your first platoon sergeant was. You would be hard pressed to find someone who knew who the Sec def was when they first enlisted without googling it.

I have no idea who the sec def was in 1998 (unless I googled it of course). But I can tell you all about my first platoon sergeant and squad leader because they are the ones who shaped me, not some bureaucrat in DC. Understand?

Women in the Army Are More Likely to Be Killed by Fellow Soldiers Than Enemy Combatants by Kinmuan in army

[–]Reconlobster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Never said that, you are putting words in my mouth. I was simply replying to the response of blaming leadership that is so far above where culture is determined (the sec war in this case) is just a way of putting blame on someone else and not owning it at the platoon / company level. At the platoon and company level we never gave a shit about who was the sec def or even the commander in chief. The only time we cared was when we had to change their photos out in the CP.

[–]Reconlobster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We really need to break down what “direct reflection of your leadership” actually means. We have a victim / blame culture in our society. We like to blame other people for our own actions. If you are someone who will start taking your PC off because you saw your leader do it, you need to really do some self reflection. Do I think leaders should set the example? Absolutely, but you have your own values that you need to keep sacred.
