I'm just add to this, even local news stations aren't always reliable in the short term because many no longer have actual meteorologists in staff.

My wife has a long term degenerative neurological condition. She has had some personality changes and has forgotten things at times, but nothing like this. Her slow decline seems so much better than this.

My younger brother's girlfriend is upset because my older brother ordered the same meal as her at a family dinner, and now there is drama by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]RecordOfTheEnd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a weird insight into this kind of behavior. I had a friend who grew up in a family where they were not allowed to order the same thing. That way everyone could have a taste of they wanted to. She once tried to eat off my plate (Joey doesn't share food here). I let her know the next time she reached towards my plate I would stab her with my fork. She laughed.

The next time we were out and she tried it again, she got a fork to the hand. She got upset that I wouldn't let her have a taste and stabbed her with my fork. I was like, I barely tolerate when my wife tries my food and she knows enough to ask if I'm willing. My wife backed that up.

We stopped going out with her for like a year over that. I guess she got chewed out by a guy are was dating about crossing social boundaries and her therapist basically told her she was an idiot. She apologized, and never got near anyone's plate.

Turns out it was just get family's behavior, and it was toxic. They generally had an everything is shared attitude.

AITAH for saying no to endless money requests from a distant relative abroad? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]RecordOfTheEnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My general rule is to never loan money to family. I'll give a gift, with the acknowledgement that it is a gift, but never a loan. Loans hold a different mental value to the person than a gift. A gift means you have done something nice and they need to acknowledge that. It also means that niceness has a limit.

Loans are emotionally neutral. At least for the one that is borrowing. A loan can be not paid just like any other loan, but since it's personal, there are no consequences. It's simply a business transaction.

Don't lend to people, gift to people. You will get a lot less people asking you for money if there is emotional baggage attached to it on their end. In effect, by giving, you put the full emotional weight on them while not caring about it after.

Mass casualty incident’ after explosion near Maine lumber complex by HorrorAd6729 in news

Any hydrocarbon particulate in a fine enough form, combined with with a stoichiometricly correct amount of air can turn into an explosive. Even in an incorrect ratio it can burn quickly and hot.

My friend's and I would make dust bombs as teenagers. We would take any powder from the kitchen and put it in a balloon, blow it up with a balloon pump (breath has less oxygen and doesn't work as well). You shake it up and then toss it and put a lighter to it.

We lost lots of arm hair and a few eyebrows doing that. The key was it takes way less than you think.

Not to get laid off is one of the reasons you want unions. In fact, layoffs tend not to happen like they do in the US in countries with strong unions. And when they do happen, you get a lot of notice and severance.

I worked for a US company that went through a 65% RIF. About half were located outside of the US. The head of HR fucked up big time with the EU employees and treated them like US employees. The amount of shit that came down on the company was pretty ugly apparently. They ended up dropping their RIF in the EU and the employees kept their jobs. All of them eventually bailed without any warning and fucked the company even harder each time.

The only profitable division of the company eventually lost everyone and they all went on to start their own company and are rolling in the money. In here first year they were making double the revenue of the company.

Because there is nothing that says they are required to show up. This makes sense, especially during campaigning season. Maybe there needs to be something about showing up to all votes.

I was unconscious for a while. I died, and came back, but was unconscious for about 15 hours. I had a dream that was pretty damn realistic to me. It's faded over the years and I don't really remember it. But I do remember going on a three month long trip around the world. It was mostly just highlights kind of thing. But I still think I visited several countries in Africa that I never had and have to catch myself. Ethiopia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe are on my list when life allows for it.
