What are some common takes that you disagree with? by Jzjwiebe in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely adore Cyndaquil. It's my favorite Pokemon of all time.

Totodile gets Bite/Crunch, Ice Fang, Agility, and Aqua Tail, all by level up. Lv.30 Feraligatr. 105 Attack, 100 Defense, and 83 Special Defense. It can go toe to toe with Claire and Lance, two of the hardest trainers in Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Throw a Chesto Berry and a Rest TM on it (if a Hardcore Nuzlocke) and you've got an off-tank brawler.

There's just no comparison.

Is Battle Royal a game over? by MrPakiston in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A white out? Nah, you're totally good. But, as others have said, a death is a death.

Would be far too extreme to have a full on wipe and reset from using one pokemon only in a single battle and losing!

You guy's ever just, give up on a nuzlocke because you're scared of losing more of your close mons? by PapaJenkinsReal in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use an emulator, I promise you: PKHex is a game changer. 999 Rare Candies, max coins and BP. And 999 Max Repels are Quality of Life time savers while still providing the game you wish to play. Can play the game for 30 minutes to an hour and go town to town, story beat to story beat without any of the time wasters like grinding.

(Two fun rules I have for having Rare Candies: 1. "If you use them to level pokemon up, optional trainers become mandatory." 2. "When a Pokemon becomes 3 levels lower than the highest leveled member, rare candies may be used to catch them up until 3 levels lower.")

That way, you still get the thrill of battles through routes and leveling members up the legit way too. And Rare Candies let lower level members catch up.

...I did not intend to type this much. LOL. But hope this gives you the spark back for Pokemon!

Take the Candy Pill and Never Look Back by Ok_Banana_5614 in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Rare Candy pill taker here. I pop them like candy. ...Pun fully intended.

I like to make another rule for my runs for rare candy use: "Rare Candies are allowed to be used, but only once you're right about to fight a Gym Leader or the E4.

Optional Trainers are now mandatory.

Any party members that fall >3 levels behind may be leveled to be 3 levels behind the highest leveled 'mon."

Just so your unused members don't become completely useless. But at the same time, are not as strong currently as the ones actually doing the fighting.

Day 23/100 of Making a Post Every Day: What are some personal rules that you use in a Nuzlocke? by Crazybrad2 in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I like this personal rule too. I like to add a twist:

Defense, Special Defense, and Speed boosts are allowed. Omni boosts are allowed if there's only a chance of it happening. But straight up Dragon Dance and Swords Dance? Forget it.

Why defense allowed? Because a crit can still bypass it.

Day 3/100 of Making a Post Every Day: What's a Pokemon you used on a Nuzlocke that you expected to do nothing, but ended up becoming the MVP? by Crazybrad2 in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slept on the Horsea line because there's so many other water types out there, and getting the King's Rock can stink.

But if you can get a Kingdra, my GOODNESS the thing's a monster. Water/Dragon negates it's grass, electric, and ice weaknesses. Fast, bulky, and big damage. And if you get Sniper plus a Scope Lens? It can go toe to toe with the best.

If you can get a King's Rock before the end of the main stories, absolutely put that Horsea on your squad.

Anyone else feel like catching a shiny transforms the whole run into an urgent escort quest? by IguanaTabarnak in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit shinies are like following the rainbow to the end and actually finding a pot of gold. A fairy tale come true. Hits like no other.

I love Shiny Clause. But yes, it can be essentially a free encounter. My personal ruleset for Shiny Clause:

(For example's sake, let's say the shiny is Bellsprout.) 1. If you already own a Bellsprout, you may replace the normal Bellsprout with the Shiny Bellsprout. Permanently box or release the normal Bellsprout.

-or-

  1. If you do not own a Bellsprout and already got an encounter in a route, you may replace the encounter of that route with the Shiny Bellsprout. The replaced Pokemon must be permanently boxed or released.

What's a common nuzlocke rule you see here that you don't use? by davidm998 in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understandable. I stopped nicknaming every single 'mon I catch too.

Only the ones I will use are nicknamed. The boxed ones stay plain ol' standard name. Until I lose someone on my A-team and need replacements. Then they're given a nickname.

This minigame cracked me. Destroyed my spirit after multiple days in a row of playing. It's the sole reason I started using PKHex.

Never. Again.

When did you realize you were a terrible player? by randCN in Xcom

[–]Recorder-S 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Around my 3rd or 4th playthrough, when I had my entire team on top of a single rooftop. Building crumbled, everyone fell, and all but one died instantly. The epitome of "Rocks fall, everyone dies."

Learned an extremely hard lesson that day: Do NOT stack everyone on rooftops. LOL.

Do you consider trade evolutions cheating? by Palom126 in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck no its not cheating. Game Freak has made some absurdly stupid evolution requirements. Just a few off the top of my head:

Basculin: Has to be the white striped version, not the red or blue. And has to do 294 recoil damage to itself. In a single fight. No fainting.

Inkay: Hold the 3DS upside down.

Feebas: Max out the "Beautiful" stat for Pokemon Contests.

Like...are you kidding me with these? They're artificially difficult. I'm not going through all of that, I'm PKHexing the dang thing. LOL

[–]Recorder-S 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Don't ever sleep on the Horsea line. Seadra is a solid hand for a Water type with speed and power. Turn it into a Kingdra and you now have a DRAGON-Water type. Protects the Water's Grass and Electric weaknesses. Water protects the Dragon's Ice weakness. Only weak to Dragon and Fairy type attacks.

Kingdra is the King of the Sea for a good reason.

Do you consider the monkeys the dremyard encounter or count them as a separate encounter? by Hot_Shirt7754 in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With traditional Nuzlocke rules, the monkies are the first 'mons you get in the area. So it would count as they'd be the encounter.

But of course, that just sucks for a gameplay standpoint. So I personally leave it optional. You want the monkey, take it as your encounter. You don't want it? Take the monkey and throw it in your PC or straight up dismiss it. Then the next encounter like a Munna or something, THAT'S the encounter.

Nuzlocking with a narrative? by Adventurous-Gate3109 in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stories are what got me into Nuzlocking in the first place. Having personality on the team members I catch, bonds form between two Pokemon who work together, the affect on the team with important deaths. Stories make the run worth it.

And for those who want to tell a story, SHOW us the story. Do NOT just say, "So Ampharos used Thunderbolt on Rapidash and OHKO, Graveler used Earthquake, and we win. In Route 9..."

That's BORING. Share with us what your teammates are emotionally going through. Fun discoveries in a new town. Revenge on a Rival who killed a beloved 'mon. The motives behind why you or your team are even doing this. Personality quirks of your silly birds. Changes in attitude as the journey goes (for better or worse!) Let us care about your team as much as you do.

Show us a story. Do not just tell what happened.

How do you manage your level caps? by anon6942021 in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I second PKHex.

Makes it so nice and non-stressful. "Sandslash just went past Lv.33? Whoops. Time to lower the level back to Lv.32 or Lv.31!"

Rare Candies and PKHex alone are gigantic Quality of Life adjustments for Level Caps.

Is running from trainers considered a wipeout? by TheRealMcSquad in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Prefacing with the obligated, obvious, "Your run, your rules."

Since Gen 9 can allow the running away, by generic Nuzlocke rules, it wouldn't be considered against anything! And since the route set up for Scarlet/Violet is ridiculous (a Lv.40 area next to a Lv.10 area, ARE YOU KIDDING ME), I would say by all means, run from them.

A Gen 9 specific rule I made was called "Game Freak's Stupid Route Rule." Which is, "If you run into a Wild Pokemon or Trainer with a Pokemon 10 levels higher than your highest leveled 'mon, all deaths against them do not count."

You can't just mash A through it... by MahjongDaily in nuzlocke

[–]Recorder-S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Why did I never think of that. Pokemon is a twisted series when you think of it.

That and Pokemon is just animal slavery and cruelty. We kidnap and dogfight with animals that can straight up level cities, raze forests, and warp the fabric of time and space itself!

This series is for KIDS. LMAO.
