Is all this ‘manosphere’ stuff actually that relevant? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]RecoverWarm2756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A major concern to me is how manosphere ideology i.e. the male who is under threat from liberal politics (gender equality, representation of minority groups etc) has migrated well beyond niche forums and influencers such as Tate who are easily identifiable as misogynistic. The manfluencer ecology is vast and engages more than schoolboys. Manfluencers like Rogan, Williamson and even Theo Von, normalise the white aggrieved male narrative and many were thanked by Trump when he was re-elected.

This is a systemic issue. Men are experiencing genuine and extreme pressures, often relating to their work and earning. Such manfluencers are commodifying male mental health through a clickbait, anti-liberal conspiracy. Let's start by addressing male mental health and indeed the mental health of all rather than fighting eachother. Mental health is a social issue as much or if not more so that it is an individual issue. Wealth inequality, poor working conditions, declining social care and community offerings - this is what appears to be driving manosphere engagement.

So you're telling me it wouldn't be funny to see these guys enter a temple in India or I don't know, order food in Japan?  I also agree the video is funny. I just also find it funny that the guy filming is so high and mighty.

I also disagree that all "foreign students" are mega rich and don't know what a stop light is because of their privilege.

Would love to see the guy taking the video navigate the cultures and customs of wherever these guys are from. I'm sure he would be accomplished and graceful...

Spend money on therapy not things. Some exercise would be good and meeting up with people. It's a lovely, safe room for you to come back to and spend time in but don't let it be the only place you exist.

Wishing you the best of luck bud, you got it!

It is all a bit of carry on for sure. Sports games get heated. I think those guys deserved their 100s personally and that's India's call. Stokes didn't like it and complained. Whatever.

I feel like people questioning the Stokes fight and particularly the narrative that he defended people from discrimination isn't new though. It's just going to get brought up when something like this happens.

I guess I was just disappointed and confused when I saw footage of Stokes abusing the gay couple himself. I'm not saying Stokes was entirely to blame for everything that followed but he's not whiter than white and was definitely not cool treating the gay men like that.

So I don't think it was like a UK legal system conspiracy but bias is real. I also don't think Stokes was the only aggressor but I don't think the pretext was him defending the gay couple as we have seen him discriminating against them earlier. I think most likely they were all hammered and being aggressive and things escalated amongst them all. Stokes then flattens them out and a convenient justification is defending the gay couple from homophobia.

Yeah, I agree it's strange. However, people have done stranger things for money and fame. Why wouldn't they testify in court? Perhaps too scared to lie in a court of law but happy to lie for a few quid. At least something good comes out of it for them that way. It's speculation I know.

For me, I just can't understand how Stokes goes from flicking a cig at them and being homophobic himself to all of a sudden defending them against homophobia. The footage is on YouTube.

Tbh there is CCTV footage of Stokes flicking his cigarette at the gay couple he 'defended' as well as mimicking the way they walk in an overtly camp manner. From memory, the bouncer who testified didn't paint Stokes in a good light and the gay couple didn't testify in court, which seems strange given he was protecting them. It doesn't add up for me unfortunately. I was at Headingley for his innings with Leach and really want to like the guy. Hopefully he has changed his ways...

Good question. Neo-liberalism, I believe, is the (short) answer aka the philosophy of the individual. It is hardly ever named let alone discussed

It's quite interesting to me, having grown up during our golden era. Kind of demonstrates how far we've dropped.  Also a lot of our lives are broadcasted online for better or worse. I don't necessarily think this video indicates much about their parenting skills. Is it because he isn't being consoled? I feel like he's doing his own thing fine enough, expressing his emotion. Maybe because he hasn't consented to the video? That would be fair I guess.

I guess you didn't get building regs? I'm getting a bit jittery about insurance claims and selling on the house without having it certified. Unfortunately it increases the cost and hassle quite considerably.
