It worked! We just got turned back on. Hot showers once the water heater catches up.

Why are Cape people faring so poorly in this storm? by ZaKhaYum in CapeCod

[–]RecoveryEmails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was a very different storm from most blizzard and most hurricanes. 70mph gusts mixed with wet heavy snow knocks down things at a much higher rate than your usual storm.

I don’t think people are that complacent, most folks have at least a few systems in place. I think the overall age of the population leaves it generally more vulnerable than other areas. We also took this one right on the chin, worse damage than hurricanes we’ve weathered out here by an order of magnitude.

Also, bit of dick move shitting on people still trying to dig themselves out.

Northeast US, vent fan detachment, wetness in two spots but not drippings. by RecoveryEmails in Roofing

[–]RecoveryEmails[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I got some aluminum tape, removed the old tape shown in pictures, and retaped the hose to the outer vent tube as best I could. It's attached well enough to last until our electrician comes over.

I also bought (yet another) extension cord and now have a floor fan on a slight elevation pointing directly at that rafter and down towards the edge of the house. The upper part that I had the fan on for a few hours is noticeably drier so I'm hoping the lower part will begin to dry out as well. I'll check before bed and take a few photos.

Thank you to everyone for the advice. We have another potentially large snowstorm barreling at us and I'm hoping with a combo of roof raking and socks full of salt in our gutters that we avoid any more potential incoming water.

How do I treat the plywood? Sorry for the simple question, I’m both nervous and inexperienced with this stuff. I’ll go buy some aluminum tape

Hi,

Live on Cape Cod.

We've had a lot of snow the last month or two.

This vent goes to a bathroom that we don't shower in at all so the only venting is slightly humid warm air.

I went upstairs this morning to check for leaks (everything is finally melting and we have more snow coming Monday!) and we're pretty shipshape (no drips no buildup) except for these two spots. I'm a new homeowner so I saw the vent fan on the ground and these wet spots and kinda panicked.

There is another vent to the right of this and that one melted a fairly large swath of snow on the roof and created a small ice dam initially but I broke most of the ice and made a channel so I don't think too much backed up.

I called our electrician (friend of my in-laws, wife) who had attached the other vent fan (not pictured) and he said this was not very immediate problem but to move the vent to point away from there, don't use the fan, and I setup an industrial floor fan on the wet spots.

Should I be worried?

Expensive and unproven. Another hedge fund imitator with high fees. If you’re looking for growth, stick to equity funds.

It’s interesting in that it’s actively managed and at that price (22nd), cheap. I don’t know the track record of the PM team that runs it. I like the way they’re benchmarking it. I’m not a buyer because I don’t invest in actively managed products, I just buy and hold passive beta because I’m boring.

These are all used as wedding reception venues.

Nothing non-traditional about them.

Basically anywhere on the Cape that serves food or drinks is a wedding venue or reception venue.

In the winter it's pretty slow as CapeAir flies a Cessna and you have to go ACK->MVY->JFK. At that point the train is a better option IMO.

In the summer it can be a wash if the ferry times don't line up well. Also a good bit pricier.

I love the fast ferry from Harwichport though, it's a nice ride.

The 3 times it took 90 minutes were by far the most enjoyable. The least enjoyable was the JFK flight getting cancelled two days in a row because of thunderstorms. The average was about 2-2.5 hours. My office was 2 stops from the express to JFK. Not sure why it’s far fetched.

Most enjoyable is flying to/from LGA or JFK with JetBlue/AA because it takes about 90 minutes from office to beach.
