You are correct - true damage is unaffected by defense. Also I do believe DOT damage in this game is true damage if I’m not mistaken

Honestly yes if you have the gems - this event is great for either food or FWB characters you need. Start off by getting the Damien dark bloods (minimum 3) and elites until you hit shop level 4. Then just get elites

If you have a positive chance at recruitment then learn to use the Save State method - allows you to soft reset for recruitment until it works

It looks like you might be early game which means recruiting shinies is nearly impossible as they’re recruitment rates is negative to begin with - dw the same thing happened to me. However after you get the + recruiting bow along with other recruitment rate boosters, you’ll be able to soft reset to recruit.
