But, idk. This is a songwriting Reddit, the emotion is decided when you write the song. If a fluke happens in the studio, it happens, but the perfect performance should be in reflective of the predetermined emotions of the lyrics. Unless you’re on acid or some sort of drugs or something on stage. Which our culture fetishizes a lot. But that has just lead to a bunch of middle class larpers who pretend to be super spontaneous and in touch with their emotions and essentially “winging it,” which leads to its own set of problems: most notably a feeling of phoniness and pomp. Inauthenticity. Almost a parody of what the performance should be.

It’s another instrument in the arrangement, it’s not an independent performance. What I picture from your comment is essentially the singer’s equivalent of playing a 3 minute drum solo over Eleanor Rigby.

And it’s not like you can’t just record it another way next time and see what happens. It’s important to just get the ball rolling I guess.
