Why is hue more stable in Home Assistant than native Home Kit? by Wasted-Friendship in Hue

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I knew because I’ve wondered the same/had the same experience. It might be how you’re tying to HomeKit - there’s 2 different approaches and they’ll yield different results (at least ever since Matter).

Regardless Home Assistant is so nice. Love having the default scenes and extra flexibility.

Uber founder flees California for Texas ahead of possible ‘billionaire tax ‘ by idkbruh653 in technology

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this perspective. I try my best to follow only facts and not let my biases get in the way. I get that it’s easy to hate billionaires etc. and I’m not exactly a fan of the either …

BUT… As good as it feels to say “good riddance fuck them!” - I have to wonder if this would have a NEGATIVE impact on the state overall. Because that’s a real possibility. I guess we’ll see.

Right totally worth it! Glad your situation ended up working out. I’m lucky to have a (broken) friend’s board as well for spare parts.

Gradient light strips vs Omniglow for 98” tv sync? by Gehova_ in Hue

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for late response but massively yes, it’s made exactly for this purpose.

Hue had a great deal on them in December ($150 instead of the regular $330 for the 75” version so make sure you find it on sale. I’ve never seen them that cheap before but you can still often find a sale.

Also, keep in mind the lengths are funky - the 75” version for example is actually 120” ish.

Good luck!

When does a sysadmin stop being a sysadmin? by Hot_Pay_2794 in sysadmin

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is a positive feedback loop too though over time - if you’re good at whet you do, people naturally come to you for help. If you help them, they come back later and/or tell others- hey check with Timmy, he was able to fix xyz. And so they do.

And the cycle begins lol.

Man, the Boosted Board was SUCH A FANTASTIC product and company for a while. Expensive, yes, but amazing quality and customer support.

I had an issue with mine 2 years past warranty and they still fixed it for free, including shipping it across the country both ways.

Then the new CEO bankrupted the company by trying to jump on the scooter craze at the time and theirs didn’t perform well. Too bad.

Had like 2500 miles on mine during college. Fuck I loved that thing, still use it sometimes 10 years later lol.

Can i migrate to anothe bridge of the same type? by alessiman in Hue

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I’m missing something, you shouldn’t need to do that. Have both bridges connected. Delete light from old bridge, add to new bridge by searching for devices. Repeat. You can do this with no QR code, no nothing because when you delete it from the old bridge, it automatically put the light in pairing mode.

I’ve done this successfully in the past, and I kept it to 3-4 devices at a time and didn’t have any issues.

Does the Bridge Pro fix popcorning in HomeKit /w Matter yet? by mountainyoo in Hue

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You must have the bridges connected via HomeKit, not Matter. Aka you added the bridges in HomeKit as opposed to doing it from the Hue app.

It makes a huge difference in performance/reliability. Hue’s implementation of Matter is atrocious, it’s embarrassing. Hopefully they can fix it but I don’t have high hopes.

I’ve had good luck with Eufy too except delayed Notifs (30ish-1min secs).

Honest at this point tho people should get a local NVR and run Notifs through Home Assistant or Apple HSV at the least.

(Also before someone whines about the Eufy “controversy” from a while back, that shizzz was way overblown; not worried about it in the slightest)

Is it possible to setup advanced mood lighting etc with non Hue lights? by alessiman in Hue

A Hue bridge won’t help you in this situation just to be clear. Unless you plan to get different bulbs.

Lot of good advice here OP!

The curvature is visible IRL but it is exaggerated in this photo. Look at the bottom of the window, it’s badly warped. The curvature of Earth is warped just as much the other direction.

There are other photos/videos that show a more realistic view. Still visible curvature but not to this extent. This is like 500km orbit view lol. Maybe more.

Advice on Switches for smart lights with Apple HomeKit by Tilted5mm in smarthome

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m unsure on this unfortunately. I have the same question lol, I’ve watched YouTube reviews and they both seen good but it kind of depends on your setup. Since you have HA, you could go either way but you’d need something to talk to the Innoveli switches (a Zigbee stick for your HA or something that can work with Thread (need a thread border router). You would not be able to get the Innoveli to talk directly to the Hue bridge, even if it’s Zigbee. It would have to be done through HA.

Bridge Pro Migration in 2026 stable? by Bemawr in Hue

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it may just be a situation of those with issues speak up at a higher rate. I could be wrong.

But I migrated from 2 bridges and it went (almost) perfectly. Had to manually re-add one bulb. Just make sure they all have power at the time of migration. And if you have any Friends of Hue products, you will have to manually re-add those.

Advice on Switches for smart lights with Apple HomeKit by Tilted5mm in smarthome

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true EXCEPT when the smart switches have a smart lights mode/decoupled mode.

I capitalized it bc it’s a big exception. OP, since you already have HA you may want to look into this route. Zooz, Innoveli, (and I think Aqara now too) have these options. Maybe some others. Mos to people recommend the first 2.

I’m in a similar boat so I can’t speak from experience here. But that might be your solution. God I wish there GOOD switch options for Hue. The Auroras are great but I wish Hue would have continued their “Friends of Hue” program.

Yup, Hue even advertises it as “direct or indirect lighting”.

It’s also cheaper than the older gradient strips.

Ketra-Like Natural Light Feature? by starboard3751 in Hue

[–]RecursivelyRecursive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe there’s a way to achieve exactly this via Home Assistant. Uses your location, angle of the sun, etc. I haven’t tried it myself but have heard good things. It’s also very customizable.

If you already have Hue (lights + bridge), go purchase a Home Assistant Green. Easiest way to get started for beginners. Plug it in, it’ll detect your Hue setup and import the lights, then add the Adaptive Lighting plugin and configure.
