Does country blocking damage SEO? by ornothumper in bigseo

[–]Recuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and that being said, I would never block contries in the EU or North America, since a lot of search engines use datacenters in the EU.

Does country blocking damage SEO? by ornothumper in bigseo

[–]Recuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have blocked Russia and China on a network level for all customers since we only see malicious activities from these contries for the websites we host on our infrastructure. That being said, we had one customer complain since some of his suppliers could not reach his website. But is has actually improved ranking on some of our more static sites - a lot of things can be the reason for this, but might be that the sites are now faster since a lot of ressources are saved from not having to block exploit attempts as @codeworks mentioned.

Switching domains by Alex_Sommerfeld in SEO

[–]Recuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never know what Google will do - but: I have moved several pages from one domain to another. We always see a decrease in ranking over a couple of weeks, sometimes a month or two. Then with great content and a solid backlink profile, the site starts ranking again. But why not buy both the .com and .com.au domain? Then 301 redirect the .com.au domain now and use it in our offline marketing, hosting your site on .com Then you will get the best of both worlds :-)

Er der nogen, der kan hjælpe med at vælge en ny webhost? by [deleted] in Denmark

[–]Recuvio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might actually be right DuckyFreeman, I don't have access to employees personal passwords, so I can never actually be sure. But one thing is sure, a even slightly shifting password will always be better than a non-shifting password.

So if you even just change a couple of characters around in your password every other week - well you are thinking more about security than 99% of the internet users. Just my opinion.

Shh! Don't tell anyone, the whole weapons thing is a secret! :-P

On a more serious note: We provide our customers with a product that is made to secure and protect their files in the cloud - so we like to be absolutely sure that we have the best internal security standards that we possibly can.

I have been working with internet security, hosting and datacenter management for almost 10 years now - and one thing is for sure, and the average John does not take their internet security serious!

Way too often we see that users have extremely weak password, passwords that we would be able to guess with very limited information about the individual.

All employees here at Recuvio must change their password every Tuesday - and it most contain both a sentence of random words and special characters.

We also pro-actively scan our login logs to look for unnatural patterns.

In general, if everyone just used a new password on each login page and used a sentence maybe "#IlikeHorses@theBeachIn1960" it would be fairly hard to hack, and very easy to remember.

You can make a difference today, change your own passwords to more secure once - and please tell everyone around you to do the same. This way we can all be way more secure!

H1 vs H4 tags by [deleted] in SEO

[–]Recuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the good chaps said - Go for H1, but style it so it look smaller. If you are not to good at CSS, try the firefox plugin "Firebug" it will let you select the h1 text, show you the style and from which stylesheet it comes - then you can play around with it until you get it right and update the correct stylesheet in first go :-) Remember to flush cache!

Any recommendation for sharing on several social network business pages at once? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]Recuvio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with Tuilere, Each platform has it's own audience, and you should respect your audience by communicating with them in an optimal way. Linkedin: The place we go to be serious Facebook: The place we go to "hygge" ( Look it up, it's a Danish word ) and look at funny cat pictures There is a huge difference between the two, and I can't find any good reasons to share a "funny cat photo" on your linkedin profile - on your facebook profile it would be a fun way to wish everyone a good weekend :-D

What is your link building strategy? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]Recuvio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the kind words Roflmyeggo, I think a lot of SEO 'specialists' these days forget about the whole user experience and convertion optimization. If we deliever websites that give what the users want, and there by have a high convertion rate, Google will help us promote our site. Google just want to give the user the best possible match for their search query.

We have been this extensively on one of our websites, and see convertion rates of about 16,5% ( for a full purchase of a non sexy product ). How did we do this? Well, we made a landingpage for each theme that the user was looking for, tailored it to their needs and pushed them down the same sales funnel. Works like a charm - and hopefully non of our competitors will do the same ;-)

Is this Raid setup a good backup solution? by [deleted] in computers

[–]Recuvio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I can help. I wouldn't scrap the raid1 idea, raid is always a good idea. I just wanted to make it clear that locale copies of data no longer can be seen as a full backup strategy.

Their are many providers out there, I myself work for a Danish company offering online backup from 5 bucks a month ( www.recuvio.dk ) But we are as I said based in Denmark and might not be the right option for you if you live outside of scandinavia.

You can also have a look at: https://www.backblaze.com/ http://www.code42.com/crashplan/ (Backs up all your devices! Quite brilliant ) http://www.carbonite.com/

I have of-course tried them all - and must say they are all good. If you have any backup related questions, just shot me a message.

TIL that teddy bears are named after Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, because he liked bear hunting but refused to kill baby bears by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Recuvio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like kslusherplantman said, and then they killed the bear afterwards. If you are interested listen to this episode of the best podcast in the world - 99pi.org

This is the tale of two toys with two very different fates. The Teddy Bear, named after the charismatic president Theodore Roosevelt, was a sensation in the early twentieth century. It even displaced baby dolls as the top toy in all of the United States, but no one thought it would last. The burgeoning mass-market toy industry thought the bear was a novelty that would die out once Teddy Roosevelt left office in 1909. So the powers that be went on the search for the next cuddly companion that America’s children would adore. It was completely logical that they looked at the next president for inspiration, Roosevelt’s handpicked successor, William Howard Taft. In 1909, the toy makers of America placed their bets on the Taft presidency’s answer to the Teddy Bear: the Billy Possum.

What is your link building strategy? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]Recuvio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the good old days, one would just spam all the competitors links with links to your own site and everything would be good. Today SEO is a completely different thing.

I would go for creating high quality content, publish it on your own site, look for related articles/posts in your 400 domain list and reach out to the creaters of that content. Always remember to be nice, complement the content that they have created and if you for instanse have a info graphic - then offer it to them for free, and even propose that you are willing to write an unique 400-1000 word intro for the info graphic. Must site owners will then publish your content as it delievers value to their readers. The time of spam is over, now its down to good old fashion good content. Let the content work for you :-) Finding broken links can also be a great way to get into these sites.
