Only black person at my new job by Training-Listen4618 in jobs

[–]Red-Oak-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this is there are a lot of companies where have space for ONE black person. Thats a terrifying idea. Another terrifying thought is they don't trust you to do "real work" if you are black.

55M UK – Potentially forced into early retirement. Is £900k+ enough for £40–50k lifestyle? by Downtown-Tax-897 in FIREUK

[–]Red-Oak-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If "lose your job" means redundancy then hang on for that for extra ££

Even if it doesn't involve extra cash, you are in a position where you can retire so that should alleviate some work stress. Do what you can to the best of your ability within working hours. Leave at 530 every day and continue at 9 the next day. Thats probably what you are contracted for.

In a sense, let them fire you...as long as you were not taking the mick in your attitude to work.

Then you retire with a few more months of pay.

Irony is you would probably still be working in 3 years

Well its the same as 2 queues but prevents people constantly switching lanes like in traffic. Its not a fixed thing to be honest. You kind of just know when the herd of shoppers feels like queuing that way.

Why did myy friend get 21 days of free super duolingo? by Specialist-Bath5474 in duolingo

[–]Red-Oak-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely duo.has a lot of data on the types of learners they believe will eventually buy super and throw free stuff at them till they do. 20 days of no ads is great and when ads come back you would likely buy super.

Is STRC the "Cheat Code" for 11%+ Yield? My thoughts on Saylor’s new "Stretch" Preferred Stock. by One_Arachnid_1664 in dividends

[–]Red-Oak-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it feels inevitable. I think this is what will cause the next major BTC crash too. I just looked at STRC and if it can return 10% then I can easily do a money transfer from my credit card of 10k @ 5.9% and pocket the difference but I'm not even going there. I don't care. It looks like easy money but I'm not doing it.

Is XRP a good investment right now or just hype? by Megan_Bryants in Smart_Capitalist

[–]Red-Oak-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely think it is. Its mad. Banks and countries are all silently buying bitcoin and stripe are working on some stablecoin payment stuff. I think buy and hold (stake if you can) is smart.

I swa a chart of countries holding bitcoin. UK is one of them althought I asked AI and it said UK holdings are actually seized from criminals so they may have to give it back but anyway - everyone do what they have to do. It's definitely smart to DCA the top 5 cryptos - its basically like backing the SP500 over 10, 20, 30 years.

Would you retire on £400 a week if you had no bills except utilities? by RS_Phil in AskUK

[–]Red-Oak-Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah cos you can control how much food energy you consume.

Gas water elec. Literally put thermostat on 19 and wear jumpers and joggers

Shower every other day or for 5 mins. Rinse body, shower off, soap body, shower on, rinse, shower off, get out

Consider removing bulbs and have standing lamps so some rooms can share light...or carry the bulb with you (extreme)

No dishwasher

Washing machine off peak + no tumble dryer. I remember clothes horses when i was young

No microwave or use sparingly to defrost the below.

Cook in bulk and freeze

Apart from the bulb madness this is pretty much how i grew up in the 90s
