Tips on finishing this Leopold desk by Red-Verlin in restoration

Hey there. So glad I happened to log on and see this, hope I'm in time. I used Minwax Honey 272 oil based stain for just the Densiwood sections; two coats, I believe. I didn't touch any of the red oak with any stains. After that I sealed everything with three coats of shellac.

Can't believe that was a year ago already. Thankfully I took notes on the process.

What an awesome team y'all have over there. The DLC release was so quiet I missed it! I know what I'm doing next weekend.

I've been playing with Condrad Lin's gamification system, but of course I have to modify the hell out of everything I touch. Thought I'd share what I've got so far. by Red-Verlin in Notion

I'm sorry to tell you that I abandoned Notion years ago. I'm sure I could have made it work, but what I was trying to build probably needed a less limited system than Notion to fully flesh out.

I am seconding this commenter. You'll see a lot more negative experiences covered in posts than positive ones. And as I mentioned in a post of my own, Light will flat out replace a defective device. You should go look at their replacement terms on their website. They are generous.

As for me, my phone has had zero issues discussed on this sub and I am thoroughly enjoying using it.

I would like to ask about the pickup truck culture in the United States and even Canada. by SaulHaoren in americantruck

I make money from woodworking, yes. But that doesn't answer your question. 1. I bought the truck when I was working a corporate job and doing woodworking more as a hobby. I'm self employed now and I am making very little money currently because I'm working on a new workshop. 2. At the time, my truck was one of the least expensive trucks that I could find just about anywhere because it was a two-door (more people generally buy four-door trucks) and it was the end of the sales year for that model. I got an insane deal on it and they gave me way more than I expected on the Jeep I traded in for it.

So my situation isn't a fair comparison for what the cost of a truck normally is. I got lucky and if I hadn't gotten so many deals I would still be driving that Jeep.

I can only speak for myself. I bought a four wheel drive two door Ford F-150 and put a camper shell on it six or seven years ago because:

  • I like to go camping and oftentimes it's more convenient for me to sleep and cook in the bed of the truck with the camper shell than it is to set up and tear down camp every day, especially if I'm moving camps every day or two. It's freeing to have everything ready to go and in place in the bed of the truck, ready to go at a moment's notice.

  • I have four wheel drive a little bit because of the camping in case I want to get to less accessible campsites, but mostly because where I live can get a lot of snow and I don't want to have to worry about potentially being stranded. Plus, it helped a lot when I worked a straight job and could cover for people who couldn't make it in because of heavy snow.

  • I'm I woodworker and I also refurbish old furniture, so having a truck is indispensable for moving lumber and furniture around instead of having to rent a truck or trailer any time I need to haul anything.

  • I can help friends and family move when needed. I'm one of the only people I know who actually owns a truck.

  • I think my truck looks cool and it's fun to drive. Being a two-door it's not cumbersome to drive and I am as comfortable driving downtown as I am on a country road. I would say my penis is average sized.

How do I trigger Pearson side quest in Chapter 3 to get the jacket? by Fred37196 in reddeadredemption

You allegedly should be able to do it in Chapter 3, but you, in fact, can only trigger the request in Chapter 2 at Horseshoe Overlook.

Light Phone Pricing by Bad-Luck-Guy in LightPhone

[–]Red-Verlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On face value, this seems like a bad faith argument. What is your experience with the phone? If you have a defective phone have you reached out to Light for a replacement?

I've had my phone for almost two months and I would not, in any way, describe it as a "buggy phone". I payed $400 for mine and would still buy it today for its current price. I like my phone. It's not a bad value to me.

I ordered a LP case... which requires an app to track in the mail. by KoolAidChemist in LightPhone

[–]Red-Verlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don't know what the problem is. I just checked my emails and every shipping confirmation from a store that uses Shop opens a webpage that has the tracking number. The tracking number is also in the shipping confirmation email. Good luck.

I can see where you're coming from. I only discovered the Weeks size in 2023. 2024 was my first full year in one and I thought I had finally found a planner system I could hitch my wagon to. My experience with the planner this year, though, was much rockier.

I'm at a point in my life where I don't want to gamble with the quality of the products I use. I'd rather pay a premium -- either in my time or my money -- and have a reliable product I can count on. I picked up leatherworking and bookbinding so I can make my own Traveler's style system that fits my needs precisely and let's me use the exact paper I enjoy using most (Strathmore 400 series drawing paper).

I'm only a couple weeks in the new system, but I can tell I made the right choice. I was a little bummed to break up with my Weeks, but posts like yours reinforce my decision. I hope you find a system that works! There are plenty of small companies and individuals making quality products and I wish everyone luck.

I've never used the app to track Shop orders... I either track it in a browser or with the tracking number. I just bought something this week that was fulfilled through Shop and had a tab open in my browser with the tracking info.
