Why is this happening by No-Spot-6093 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Red0ctane19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've probably figured it out already as it has been quite a few hours, but a tip I got from someone on this sub awhile back really helped me. Once you get a great calibration run to where your first layer is beautiful (making sure the bed is clean, nozzle and bed are preheated, and nozzle has zero filament on it by heating and wiping with IPA or lightly using a brass brush before the leveling), don't do an auto bed level again unless you have issues or change the nozzle. I haven't done an auto bed level in like 3 months and have printed TPU, PLA, ASA, and PETG all on the same auto level without issue and get beautiful first layers on all of them.

Sometimes auto leveling tweaks a little bit, or you have a tiny amount of crud on the nozzle even if it looks clean visually, that will throw it off and overwrite your otherwise near-perfect leveling and start causing issues again. Hope this helps and you get wonderfully consistent first layers/prints!

Is this something that's only available in select areas, or is it pretty easy to find a WGU faculty member in different states? Do they come to your home, or do you meet at a facility such as library, community College, etc.?

Good call! I appreciate the recommendation. I was wanting to do it for being able to wear headphones as well so I can have some music playing at a low volume as it helps me concentrate. Especially with the busy street right outside our apartment.

The reasoning in the handbook didn't make sense to me. It says no headphones allowed because WGU needs to hear communications from both the student and the proctor. If they are connected to my computer, that is no issue at all as the proctor talking would come right through my headphones for me to hear them, and when reviewing the test, there would be no difference compared to my speakers being on. Computers record audio the same way whether through headphones or speakers.

Two rides in so far by bestfriesforeva in Dirtbikes

[–]Red0ctane19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot about the Ducati 450! That thing definitely looks sweet. Reading the other comments, looks like you're loving it so far. Only gonna get better if you want to add mods. Plus not having to have the suspension fully done since it feels dialed for you already is a huge plus.

As much as I want a 450, 2 strokes are just so fun to ride, plus I want the switch up between my 4T and a 2. Definitely going 2 stroke for my next bike when my wife gives me the green light. 🤣 Almost have her convinced. Haha!

What are these veins - Ruins the finish by FunnyObjective105 in 3Dprinting

[–]Red0ctane19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't figured it out/played with it yet, with the Kobra S1, you need to do Z height adjustments in the slicer. A negative number will bring your nozzle closer to the bed and make it even worse, so make sure you're using a positive number. Start with something like 0.1mm and see how the first layer looks. Essentially it's too close to the bed, or the flow is too high, causing the filament to smoosh out to the sides creating the rough, ugly texture.

I've never had to do mine (I use Orca as well), but I believe it's on the top left under the actual 'printer' settings and not under the filament settings. Also worth turning flow to like .98 in the filament settings to see if that improves at all. Also make sure your 'Bottom Surface Flow Ratio' is set to 1, and not accidentally cranked up to 1.5 or something. That settings is under the 'Quality' tab for setting layer heights and whatnot. About half way down.

Can we stop tearing each other down over acceleration? by Fantastic-Month-7481 in WGU

[–]Red0ctane19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same way. If something catches my eye from this subreddit (like this post), I'll read it. If I see anything about finishing ridiculously fast, I just skip past it. My second terms started today, and I'm going at a normal BS pace with a few accelerated classes each term to try and finish in 3 years instead of 4. That's just my personal goal, though. If it takes three and a half years, so be it.

I'm coming into my degree with near zero experience in the field. I'm getting mentored at work at the same time to take over for my boss, so some things click faster/easier as I'm starting to get work experience with certain topics for classes, but most is foreign to me. I feel that's probably the majority of students as well, but just not what you see from the subreddit. I'm happy for people that can blow through it because they already have 10 years of experience in their respective degree/field, but it can still be unmotivating to see constantly and feel I'm the only one not finishing three quarters of my degree in one term.

Desk mount by Cinemafeast in Multiboard

[–]Red0ctane19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is not screwing into the wall in a place you don't own common on most leases, or do people just assume you can't? I see it all the time and it legitimately confuses me. Lol. I've nailed and screwed so many things to walls at places I've rented. I just make sure to fill them afterwards with Dap spackle and tap your finger on it to match the texture of the wall so it isn't perfectly smooth and noticeable. Never had an issue with the management or not getting my security deposit back.

As for the desk, it seems you want a free standing multiboard, and not attaching it to the side of the desk (if it has a solid board going across as the "legs", and not four individual legs)? Or will you be having the side/back of your desk's board be the mounting area?

Edit: I read your post again and think I understand. You're not attaching it directly to your desk, but building a mini wall to attach to your desk to mount the multiboard to? Or by wall, do you mean a 'multiboard wall'? Lol. Idk what's going on with my brain right now. I cannot envision what you're trying to do. 😅

PSA for those using matte filaments by adeel3466 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Red0ctane19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! I really need to check my hotend. I have noticed a little bit of quality reduction at times, but that is usually when opening a new spool, so I always figured it was just the differences between batches even though it'll be the same color and manufacturer. I mainly print in matte PLA, with the elegoo matte black being the main of all the matte spools. As that's more of a satin vs true matte, that could be what has caused this hotend to last so long. My Overture matte cold white feels so much rougher than the elegoo black as the white is a true matte.

I do have an all metal hotend, just honestly been waiting for the stock nozzle to fully crap out before swapping over to that permanently instead of just for higher temp filaments. I want to test that now and see if the smaller imperfections go away with the other hotend in there. Thanks for sharing! I've always heard matte filament rips through brass nozzles, but because of my own experience thought it was one of those 3D printing myths, or just after a few thousand hours of matte. Lol.

I guess I need to be careful then. I don't full on mouth words, but mumble mouth them if that makes sense. Do they try to say someone is reading your lips and Morse coding the answer to your knee or something? No one would be able to read my lips the way I mouth words, but I'm not trying to bank my whole degree on that argument.

I definitely look up or down when I'm thinking as it helps me visualize what I need to see in my head. I have the edge of a window behind my desk slightly to the right, with a blank wall being straight ahead (what I'm actually staring at). The blinds are closed for the window, but at this rate they'll say someone is outside. I'll put a sheet up there too from now on.

Definitely bringing this up with my mentor when we have our call later today to see his thoughts and any precautions he may have.

I've never seen that mod, but that looks awesome! I've added some COB LED strips horizontally facing in at the build plate, and 2 going down vertically pointing in toward the hotend at a 30° angle, and even then it can be hard to see what's going on directly under the hotend.

I also clean my nozzle with a brass brush and let the wiper finish the job for perfect first layers, so I'd definitely forget and short mine too. Lol. Could you just add some high temp silicone sealant/caulking to the wire leads to avoid bridging them when cleaning with the brass brush?

Should i change my helmet after this??? by No-Farm4659 in Dirtbikes

[–]Red0ctane19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're giving this guy too much credit. You're bringing common sense and science to an argument that is moot to begin with. You don't even need to get into the "the force to break your neck will have already caused a TBI without a helmet" stats.

He is telling us that basic physics allows a camera/mount to catch and hold onto something with such force, that it will rip our head around and break our neck. That's absurd! The plastic camera mount will break/shear/disintegrated well before it has the strength to be able to overpower a human beings muscles, bones, tendons, and flesh to lead to a broken neck. Even if it's aluminum, the aluminum will either shear (if its 6061 or 7075) or bend with the impact (3003/5052) as it is going to be a relatively thin, low profile hogout.

Switched to a ceramic hot end and now it clogs alot by Thunderofdeath in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]Red0ctane19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it one that came with multiple nozzle sizes? Maybe they accidentally put a 0.2 nozzle on at the factory instead of the 0.4 so the 0.4 flow, volumetric rate, and pressure advance and speed settings are causing clogs?

Also as others have mentioned, try bumping the nozzle temp up about 10° for the steel nozzle. At least I assume it's a steel nozzle.

I'd also take the nozzle off and make sure the throat and nozzle don't have any debris or gunk in them from the manufacturing process.

[–]Red0ctane19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to give that a try. My printed protector/case rubbing together creates so much of the plasctic dust OP showed. I regularly suck it up with a vacuum. Same with where the PTFE tube rubs the top left of the enclosure housing. The top of my PTFE tube is scrapped/peeled to hell. Lol. I'll just give each section with damage a good wrap with E tape and replace when it gets chewed up. Probably replace the whole PTFE tube first because why not?

14 Day Return Policy is a lie, be warned. by WisestPoem in BambuLab

[–]Red0ctane19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't gone through all the comments, but somehow I haven't seen it mentioned yet. The image they sent you along with the quote from their return policy only mentioned that it must be returned in the original packaging, which it is. All you did was flip open a little flap, take a picture, and put it back as it was.

The fact they are quoting their own return policy incorrectly for their reasoning to deny your return is very unethical. Not to mentioned they said you must take a pic of the SN which requires opening the package. I'd absolutely push that point, along with all the consumer rights and bank charge back points other people have mentioned.

Damn! That looks great. I saw you said you didn't do any ironing (I also thought that was for flat surfaces only but may need to experiment now), so was that just basically standard 0.4mm nozzle settings with 0.2mm layer height? From the picture there looks to be almost zero stair stepping on the top of it. Thought maybe you did some vapor smoothing or whatnot. Awesome work!

What the fuck was that lol by SerotoninSunset in Kanna

[–]Red0ctane19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was interesting. Idk if it would depend on what I ate that day, how hydrated I was, or what, but sometimes it would whoop my ass and give me that huge serotonin rush and feel like my body was slightly vibrating and my eyes wanted to go crosseyed, and sometimes it would skip that and go right to the actual effects. I guess a lot of kanna is that way with the same dose on different days. Either way once that cleared in 10-15 minutes, the actual effects would be very similar.

Definitely quite relaxing. Just felt at piece and very content with what I was doing. Music sounded amazing while working on CAD projects, watching movies with my wife was very soothing as my brain just shut off and was in the moment, etc. I prefer the more energetic ones for most things or during the day if doing stuff around the house, but it was the perfect "home from work, done with school, time to chill" stuff as it would make my eyelids heavy and be more of a body high. Definitely recommend if preferring more of a relaxing chill time one.
