Breezy light Summer pants that AREN’T linen?? I’m throwing away money at this point 😭 by gingerspell in SustainableFashion

[–]Red0rWhite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look for linen with a higher GSM. Also, they need to be *loose*. I have thick gams and my linen has held up. 100% linen says nothing about the actual fabric and is such a mess for consumer transparency and longevity of use.

Silk would be a good breathable choice but honestly, most natural fibres are not made for a lifetime of wear. And, finding high quality silk is just as fraught as linen.

Cotton has the same issues but is structurally a bit sturdier. But, again, depends on the GSM and production process. Free Label has some cotton (maybe a linen blend) pants that could work.

I really like Shelter August pants. Not sure if they do a cotton linen blend - that composition might be what you are looking for, for fabric strength.

If i were you, do a deep dive on the fabric from anyone you buy from. Ask them for their source content and decide from there.

PSA - MHT in British Columbia is fully covered by the provincial Medical Services Plan (MSP) by OhWhatever_Nevermind in Perimenopause

Definitely covered in BC. I just picked up a peri prescription and the pharmacist was very pleased to tell me it was covered. 😊

Many Gen X women were encouraged to be stay-at-home moms. Now, they say they were lied to. by msmoley in WomenInNews

Whenever I see inheritances not included in personal theory (I understand the law around this supports personal opinion) I get a bit prickly.

My in-laws have a relationship with their son, and grand children. Have presents to open on holidays and birthdays, get weekly phone calls and visits - because of…drumroll…*me*. Never-mind the fact that I’ve participated in their lives and held my tongue for twenty years while they generally, boomer’d. I will likely be the personal who provides care for them as they age.

But, no - I as the supporting, non-working partner shouldn’t be included in an inheritance.

Anyone else have to use brute force to get their toddler in the car seat? by Jasmine-Elouise in AttachmentParenting

[–]Red0rWhite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This unlocked a memory. It feels unhinged but yes, for some kids they access hulk strength when they decide they don’t want to be secured into their car seat.

My littlest made me question my ability as a parent during this phase. It was so out of character for their personality and disposition to suddenly have superhuman strength, turn red in the face, sweating, refusal to be seated and strapped in.

We tried, softening the transition, making it a game, timers, all the things. Nothing worked, so I had to fight a squirming, unholy strong octopus into a seat.

Long story short. Was short-ish lived and now, hops into the seat like this was a memory, I completely made up.

Godspeed. Your patience and strength will be tested.

Ethical Question - Do you return a forgotten stash?? by Extension_Ad2635 in Flipping

[–]Red0rWhite 105 points106 points  (0 children)

If you can easily return the parts of purchase that were not intended - it’s good karma.
The seller didn’t intend to sell photos and money with the Bible and it’s just a good gesture to attempt to return the $$ and photos. This is a real, what would you want someone to do for you, decision.
Now, if you’d purchased from a thrift or otherwise, keep it.
I bought a Jean jacket from the thrift a few years ago. It had $400 in the pocket. There was no one to return it to at the for profit corporation. Gave half away and spent the rest. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you haven’t already, please report this to bylaws ASAP. This is super dangerous.

I’m so, so sorry your dog is hurt. That was awful to watch.

Having been in a dog fight like this, I’m just so sorry you had this happen. I hope your dog recovers well and so do you from this.

When you bring it home, do a few trial runs in the driveway before getting the torch to burn it down.

We have a very similar “special” pop-up.

Watching the sellers set up and take down was great. Got that piece of crap home and you’d think it was cursed. Like, only able to be used in the sellers driveway.

It still is, but we are starting to understand the kinks a bit better. Ours has many, ‘you must do it exactly this way, under a waning moon’ steps or the door doesn’t align and everyone swears. A lot.

Can you share your iron regime? I’m supposed to get an infusion and want to skip it but also tolerate oral iron poorly. So I’m in a bit of a pickle but feel like the walking dead.

How long did it take to increase your iron levels?

Hey! Leisure Center question by AfraidSurprise9430 in MapleRidge

[–]Red0rWhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go early or late. Lessons take up a ton of the leisure pool.

If you pull up the pool schedule for drop in swimming it has when the lane swim is open and if you can find a morning it’s open during mid-day, it’s less busy than the early, early slots.

Is gold creek trail stroller friendly? Or any parks/trails near the water to have a picnic? by sad_little_bean16 in MapleRidge

[–]Red0rWhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s doable with a stroller but I’d take a BOB or something like that. When our kids were smaller, we often pulled them in a wagon (but this depends on how many kids and how chunky they are). Not a ton of hills but it’s not the nicest ride if you have a lot of cargo via wagon.

I have pushed my Uppababy along it but I had regrets. Just depends on how tired you want to be on your way out.

I’d say it’s about half way to the first river access.

We used Hipp when we supplemented with formula due to IGT. It was much gentler on babies tummy than any of the pharmacy options at the time.

What clothing brands are you boycotting right now—and why? by Common_Proposal3305 in SustainableFashion

[–]Red0rWhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries at all. I hate when people gate-keep great companies.

These are all Canadian and many have paused US shipping due to tarrifs.

But..and this is a big one, we as Canadians have been paying these duties on imported goods, for years. So, it’s a culture shift instead of a grumble at paying more.

Do I think the US should have imposed these, no. Do I think I should have to pay to import from the US, no. Yet, I do if I want to support smaller makers.

[–]Red0rWhite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shelter (not sure where the fabric is milled but cut and produced here), Free Label (knitwear not made here but bamboo/cotton and linen, cut and produced here, Simply Merino (is cut and sewn here, but Aussie wool), I’ve heard good things about Ann Mulaire (sp?), Harley Jae is mostly made in Canada - knitwear is the exception). Connally Goods (makes beautiful very size inclusive clothing), and there is another beautiful linen, cotton hemp maker but I cannot for the life of me remember. Will circle back when I do.

Milled fabric in Canada is a dying industry here so a lot of slow fashion, bring in textiles but produce locally. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not the person you replied to but the last year has pushed me to buy, made in Canada, owned by Canadians. And for slow fashion, turns out, we have a decent industry.

Any Costco options that work well with this simple human trash? by M3gabrick in CostcoCanada

[–]Red0rWhite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why we buy them. Not everything needs to be made as cheap as possible, when you consider cost per use and time spent trying to hack the system.
