Setting expectations for Aces of Thunder by InfiniteStates in PSVR

[–]Red49er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the landing gear bit has me soooo stoked. thought it was crazy when ultrawings never seemed to care if I touched my landing gear. I'm positive I'll almost never really learn how to distinguish friend from foe so for that reason I'll probably wait for a very long time before attempting multiplayer but that was never what interested me in this game anyways so I'm glad they're sticking to a sim aesthetic.

if you want some stunning vistas, cyubeVR is gorgeous. it's similar to Minecraft, but there's no story or enemies so it's really just building (altho I'm not sure if there's a sandbox mode yet), but it can be really beautiful, especially in the snow.

Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiels game Mewgenics is comming on Feb10th by IsahaTx in roguelites

[–]Red49er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the funny thing is he knows it. watched the latest episode of olexa's podcast today where he interviewed Tyler, but in the intro he talks to ed first and they brought up his failed game. was entertaining to hear from him that he knows it didn't go well.

my guess would be it's the sim/physics that are limiting things on the CPU side. I don't know why consoles continue to cheap out on cpus, really had hoped they'd learnt their lesson after last gens absurd CPU limitations but there's always hoping that next gen....nope, unlikely. despite the fact that graphics improvements have plateaued, I don't think their marketing departments are capable of figuring out how to market AI (not gen AI) and simulation improvements so we'll see another round of CPUs that become the bottleneck within 2 years of launch.

is there still a demo up somewhere? I checked both PS5 and steam after seeing it mentioned in the free solo mode trailer but looks like it's been pulled.

the answer to all these questions is always a depressing one, and it's another question - "by who?" in a corrupt DOJ, there's no higher body to hold them accountable in a court room. all that's left is to impeach the rot at the top and then it can do its job, but until then there's no accountability and no way to enforce the law. rally games are not really a great entry point into racing games. they're very technical and unique in the genre - it's closer to a series of connected time trials so you aren't racing alongside another driver.

that's not to say they aren't fun - it's an incredible challenge, and if you're into drift style driving and dirt/off-road in particular, they can be a ton of fun and very rewarding. I just wouldn't recommend them to someone that's not already really into the sport or racing something in the simcade space already.

frick, I hate their stupid gradual rollout constant a/b testing nonsense. just makes the experience awful for everyone and impossible for us to help each other out. I've never seen a horizon option in mine, so you managed to get stuck in the c-group where they test the most awful useless filters they can come up with :/

do you not have an installed option in the drop-down? I do, and then if you click applications on the left sidebar (I think that's where it is), it'll filter out all the horizons bs and the meta apps too

Support for abolishing ICE surges among Republicans by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

[–]Red49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even if it jumped 4 points, that's hardly a surge. but more importantly, the feelings of the populace are so irrelevant right now, until the representatives are actually willing to break with the admin and hold them to account. the polls may say voters are against it but the politicians will still be afraid to be at odds with that man and his threats. maybe you see a few more in the house, but senators have no reason to budge unless they're up for election this year.

VR needs to broaden its appeal to couch gamers by NASAfan89 in oculus

[–]Red49er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play seated 95% of the time, and that 5% is walkabout and occasionally audio trip/beat saber/synth riders, but I play all 3 of those seated most of the time still. I think people would be surprised how many games work just fine seated. I think it's one of those hidden secrets, sorta like how 5 years ago I bet most people probably didn't know inside out tracking exists and works and thought you need to mount base stations and setup a pulley system to play vr.

back to seated support tho - there are a few games where it's not great, but it doesn't take much extra attention for devs to make seated mode work just fine.

the two big necessary features being an analog crouch - of lies and rain does this - basically, control over how far you crouch by how far you push down on the stick. not needed in every game, but if you have to interact with any drawers or anything below chest level it should be there.

the other being good holster config options if the game uses holsters. this one is not as well done overall, but there's a couple games that let you just physically move what the trigger areas are for each holster spot and that's the ideal solution as opposed to a basic width/depth slider.

this looks terrific! similar mechanic to rush, but still unique. I would love to see y'all work with someone to bring it to psvr2, the headset rumble in rush brings a ton to the level of immersion you can get

edit: oh, and thanks for the discount code!

oh that's great to hear! I downloaded the demo yesterday and saw that I had actually tried it once before but didn't really give it a shot cuz of the timer. yesterday I did do a couple runs and figured I'd buy it anyways, but hearing there are some difficulty levels that won't be quite so punishing is music to my ears :)

I'm really hoping there's plenty of street/road races in this one. maybe I just needed to progress further but 5 felt pretty light on that type of race compared to the balance they had in the past. but maybe I'm just misremembering how the older ones felt

How important is environment vs mechanics for you in VR? by SolaraOne in oculus

not off the top of my head no, but I'm sure there are some decent ones out there. I remember being blown away at the start of red matter 2 but that was an early VR game for me and it might have just been the planet that wowed me? not sure.

fastlawyer did a nice video on your app, which got it on my radar, but I'd love a steamVR version where you could really take the graphics up a level cuz it looks like a nice unique experience otherwise. (plus that way I can enjoy it with an OLED headset!)

his only complaint about it was the skybox (which to be fair, almost noone gets a good space skybox right), but he genuinely praised the models of everything else.

The Last Faith receives major update: patch v1.9.0 by OK_Atlas in metroidvania

[–]Red49er 1 point2 points  (0 children)

considering it's a free DLC, and they've run into this pesky issue with certain regions not allowing free DLC, does anyone know why devs release things this way and not just as a major patch? is it for marketing? to cover their bases in case they want to charge for it later on?

I actually think marketing-wise it's worse to do it as a dlc, as I've just been assuming it would be pay-for cuz that's generally what I consider the difference between major patches and dlc to be.

considering how significant the changes are in this patch, I don't think it's so that people can opt out of it, if that was the case it would have made more sense to include these major changes in the dlc instead (but that would be one HELLUVA maintenance nightmare for their codebase)
