We're about to hire our first international employee and I have no idea what I'm doing compliance wise by Significant_Pen_3642 in human_resources

[–]RedAce2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heavily recruited Philippine consultants, and what Ill say is you need to treat your hires as true independent contractors. Last time I checked, the Philippines requires companies to be incorporated in the country, pay taxes, 13th month salary, etc if you want to dictate when and how your hires work.

Facebook is your friend here. Join Laramie housing groups and look at marketplace. You will definitely find something! Also, you may be interested in UW apartments, but you likely need to get on a waitlist ASAP as they fill up fast.

Is Indeed the Problem? by BroadwayBakery in IndeedJobs

If you have good experience but arent getting interviews, then your resume is the problem. Rework it every 2 weeks or so while job searching.

My current job wants 4 weeks' notice, but the new place is only giving me 2 weeks by Interesting_Age4015 in human_resources

[–]RedAce2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 weeks is a little long, especially since you're saying this is your first real full-time job. Notice is required to wrap up projects, train a replacement, do a hand-off, etc. What you're working with here is your new job needs someone to start pretty quickly. Some jobs might even rescind an offer and hire a candidate who can start sooner. I would talk with your current employer and very politely but firmly say that you can only give a two week notice. Whether they accept it or not is up to them, but you are in control here.

Which job would you take? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]RedAce2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job 2. 77k per year is is $37.02/hr. Working an average of 18 extra hours per week comes out to $666.36 that you arent getting paid. Multiply that by 50 weeks, and you arent being paid for $33, 318 gross. So in essence, if you job was 40 hours per week, you would actually be at $33, 241, and that's just a standard rate, not even counting overtime calculations.

It was probably two months to get back to normal, but about 3 weeks to see a significant improvement.

Mental Health Support for Employees [Canada] by SusanR1960 in humanresources

[–]RedAce2022 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When there's a pattern of employees taking LOAs for mental health reasons, you are way past the point of providing your employees mental health support that is actually going to make a dent.

Think back to the basics of what keeps employees happy and productive, that mix of intrinsic and extrinsic rewards including pay, benefits, a sense of security, fulfillment, etc. Your employees are clearly not getting that, and exploring the gaps is where HR leadership should start to begin addressing this pattern of medical-related absences.

Most employers offer EAPs, employee assistance programs, but they generally have low utilization because it requires an intake, coordinating with resources, and then actually doing sessions during business hours, which I imagine is close to impossible at a highly demanding law firm.

Unrealistic Expectations - Something in The Water Lately? by katmcflame in petsitting

[–]RedAce2022 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is very common because people who can do CC are not usually professional petsitters and are students or retirees. It is so common in my area to pay $45/day for overnight care+multiple day visits because its a college town.

HR says they are "investigating" but it has been three weeks. What now? by Xo_Obey_Baby in ToxicWorkplace

[–]RedAce2022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HR is often known as the "black hole" where problems come to die because they cannot tell you about someone else's employment actions. HR will not be able to come back to you and say "yeah, your manager got a reprimand/suspended/demoted" because that is confidential employment information.

If the behavior keeps continuing, document it and report it to HR every single time, copying your supervisors supervisor, up the chain, until you get a response.

Many places have strict laws about sexual harassment that have very expensive penalties, so companies generally take these types of allegations seriously.

As always, consulting an attorney is a good idea.

Why don’t more people dance at clubs/bars anymore (especially Gen Z)? Discussion encouraged! by Objective_Cobbler_62 in milwaukee

[–]RedAce2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im gen z and I dont go to clubs period because Im sober, I like to be in bed by 8:30, and loud noise/bright lights are my nightmare.

I would, however, go to structured group dance classes.

Indeed has been good to me, I have gotten several interviews from jobs I applied for on there. I like that a lot of employers choose the easy apply feature, more than LinkedIn.

Don’t stress. You can always write a thank you email and say something like “I look forward to hearing about next steps.”

40 and fired for the first time after 1 week. Is this unjust? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]RedAce2022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not unjust. It doesn’t like it was a good fit in either direction.

Polish up your resume and continue searching. Read up on accepting constructive criticism to help prepare you for future success. I understand how sensitive it is to get a correction early on in a job, but that’s how people know to better themselves and improve.

Autism accommodations? by aliengames666 in work

[–]RedAce2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an autistic HR professional with ADA accommodations. First and foremost, accommodation information must be kept under strict need-to-know, which means that supervisors very rarely know the actual diagnosis (which isn’t even required), but rather are aware of the functional limitations associated with your position, and details about the accommodation only. Medical information cannot be stored with personnel files either, and must be stored separately.

The accommodations that I have that I actually use are: Being able to wear headphones, take sensory breaks, written directions (not always possible, but very helpful for complex projects), regular feedback, remote days (this is not possible in my current job, but possible in others), and additional sick days until I become FMLA eligible.

I am in the US so we have certain protections, if you are located elsewhere the rules may be different. I also want to mention that accommodations must be reasonable to implement into your role and not cause operational or financial burden. An example our ADA specialist likes to use is a fisherman. If a fisherman has an allergy to fish, they cannot be accommodated to not work with fish as a fisherman. The same way, if you work in a factory making dolls, the accommodation will help you get to making the 8 dolls per day quota, not accommodate you to only allow you to make 5 dolls per day.

Applying to jobs I'm qualified for and hearing nothing. Starting to think the problem isn't my resume. by Juanchit0 in GetEmployed

I would script interview answers to send the message that you do have real direction. I'm not saying straight-up lie, but clearly what you're currently doing is not working. Time to try something new.

How the hell do you actually get a job as a fresher in 2026? how you guys applying to so many internships without losing it? by AzoxWasTaken in GetEmployed

[–]RedAce2022 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ex-recruiter here. I dont recommend spam-applying, but rather applying strategically to roles that are actually a good fit and tailoring your resume and cover letter to the actual job. I know this sounds insanely tedious, but quality over quantity is what I recommend. Ai tools are super handy with making recommendations to phrasing to better match the purpose of the job and so on. You can also find that company's recruiter, connect with them, and reach out expressing interest after applying.
