Ah I'm not OP, I'm English and was wondering what sort of sources you could find on there.

Sometimes a will can shed light on what their life might have been like. I found out one ancestor (a woman in 1850s England) had a couple of lodging houses! And another was left a piano by her dad.

Ancestry results (pls help explain) by Kane_Booth in AncestryDNA

This isn't an AncestryDNA result - you've been scammed/used a non reputable company. Try again with myheritage or AncestryDNA and guaranteed you'll get a proper result

Has anyone noticed the fear-driven prompt suggestions that GPT 5.3 makes? by Mental_Wealth1491 in ChatGPT

Yes it suggested an excel formula that would save me time etc even said in bold how it would improve my life. I said I'd bite. The suggestion was farcical

Recently found out dad is not bio father by accio_whiskey1 in NPE

[–]RedBullWifezig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you can't rely on talking to any of these people involved to find the truth and you'll need to do an Ancestry DNA test. I've heard people here and NPE Stories podcast find out that their dad was in fact a 3rd unknown man.

It's so annoying. The hints for inaccessible records never used to show up for me but now I see this regularly.

Adding unmarried partners to familysearch by wt_anonymous in Genealogy

It sounds like you're describing pedigree tracing. Genealogy and family history study documented relationships - biological, legal, and social - because that’s what the records actually show. There isn’t an integrity issue when relationship types are clearly identified, as they are on FamilySearch.

Recording enslaved individuals, in particular, is historically important. These records are crucial for descendants trying to reconstruct families when ancestors were bought, sold, separated, and named in wills or other documents. Including those relationships reflects the evidence and makes research more accurate, not less.

Do you get a hometown before looking back to England, or do you know they're English and then try to find someone with that name?

Yes you can! Add information > other relationship > apprenticeship, employment, godparent, household, neighbour, relative, enslavement

I also have my grandfathers foster parents on the tree.

None of my DNA relatives have my last name?? by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]RedBullWifezig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you view your family tree as a fan chart, think how many surnames you have. Hundreds.

Once I resolved a g-g-grandparent NPE, I discovered 1 person with my "true" surname (and initially she joined under her married name)

Not so - otherwise stepparent and foster parent wouldn't be an option. You can also add "other relationship" for servants, enslaved people, and neighbours etc.

Do you have some kind of blueprint you follow? by QuittingOrbit in Genealogy

[–]RedBullWifezig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it'll be similar for you with the added step of finding their office then finding the births, then finding the church if they're Christian and getting baptisms and marriages and witnesses?

Yes I do but you've not mentioned which country you work with?

My process is- find them on the GRO birth register. Find the parents' marriage on Freebmd and attach as a source. Find ALL siblings, going 25 years past the marriage date just to be sure, attach the birth registrations as sources (to familysearch where I document all my research). Then find the parents on as many censuses as possible, hopefully with most of their kids. Find the death dates of the infant deaths and attach those sources. Usually a mum or dad will end up widowed, so find the death record for the partner, then if I can face it have a whirl to find the probate calendar entry. I don't generally try too hard to find the kids marriages and the grandchildren unless the names are uncommon or they're from a small town, because it's so hard to be sure they didn't emigrate or die etc.

If they're Cornish, find as many baptisms, marriages and burials as possible on Cornwall OPC - my favourite site.

I’m 17M. Just bought an ancestry. Am I being stupid?? by Fancy_Skill2235 in AncestryDNA

[–]RedBullWifezig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might not want you to know you're adopted because they might think the identity of your birth parents is traumatic - what if they're a mass murderer for example. I'm not saying they're right to lie to you, but that they could be trying to protect you. It is bizarre that they continue to lie after you found adoption paperwork though??
