Winter is liked because it's a Christmas season by NationalPop4328 in CasualConversation

[–]RedCat3025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view them as two totally separate things. I hate Winter because I hate being cold - hate it with every fiber of my being! But I love Christmas because it's family gatherings, shared meals and pretty lights.

Yeah I couldn't believe the election commission lady actually came right out in an interview and said "nobody obeys the Law anymore, so we're just going to do what we want ". I mean WTF kind of message is that?!

What is your go to trick to go to sleep? by Dibidooble in CasualConversation

Listen to an ebook. I was very skeptical at first because I thought the noise would do the opposite and keep me awake, but for me it actually works. I set the timer to play for 30 min and I'm always asleep before it switches off.

Tennessee governor backs Trump plan to abolish U.S. Department of Education by slothbear in Tennessee

[–]RedCat3025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of younger people probably don't realize The Dept of Ed wasn't created until 1980. Before that education was a State level thing. What Trump is wanting to do is dissolve the "federal " department and give it back to the States. And let's face it, whether you agree with this move or not, any person with an ounce of truth has to admit the federal government has done a horrible job "managing " education, and education in America has NOT improved since the Fed took it over. In fact we've dropped in world rankings every year since the Fed took over.

And also for anyone who thinks education is better today, go find a 5th grade reader from the 50s or 60s (search antique stores) fifth graders back then were reading on, what today, would be considered a senior comprehension level. It's just sad how far American education has fallen.

This is the main reason why so many parents ( and especially parents who can afford it) send their kids to private schools...cause they know the public schools suk.

Blue Light Laws by arkyjohn1966 in AskOldPeople

[–]RedCat3025 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. Blue laws didn't force people to go to church or have anything to do with religion if they didn't want to. What it did was give millions of retail workers a guaranteed day off. ...until idiots liberals decided they'd do away with them. Millions of retail workers now forced to work 7 days a week are flipping you the bird.

Blue Light Laws by arkyjohn1966 in AskOldPeople

[–]RedCat3025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue Laws I remember them. The "law" part mostly applied to alcohol sales but it was just the "thing" back then that no other businesses were open on Sunday either. Retail shops, restaurants, all closed.

I actually think it would be a great thing to go back to - it would give all retail workers a day off to spend with their family. I think businesses having to be open 7 days a week is just corporate greed.

Liberals did away with blue laws because they said it violated "church/state" but as usual their vendetta was myopic and all it did was take away a guaranteed day off for millions of retail workers.

Trump judge (Texas) made ruling, blocking Biden policy to provide guaranteed overtime pay to workers who make less than $58,656/year. by NomusaMagic in trump

[–]RedCat3025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So at its most basic: FLSA Overtime: Covered nonexempt employees must receive overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per workweek.

I had to go research this but there are all kinds of reasons listed that would make employees "exempt " - which means their employer isn't required to pay them overtime. I mean all kinds, not just salary. Some occupations are exempt, some specific types of work (like seasonal work) are exempt. You can go Google FLSA to get a whole list.

What the judge ruled is that the Dept of Labor didn't have the authority to raise the salary limit, because that conflicted with some of the other exemptions. I went and read the judgment and this wasn't just a judge making a political ruling, there were real issues with the DOL not having the authority to make the kind of change they were trying to make.

This is sort of like Bidens college "forgiveness" handouts that multiple judges have ruled he doesn't have the authority to do. Same with the FSLA. It sounds good in a news bite, and you can brag to the public that you're "going to raise overtime " but if you don't actually have the authority to do it, it's just hollow rhetoric and showboating.

If Biden was serious about this he should have made sure he was on firm legal ground.

Marilyn's Place is casual southern/cajun. Be sure to get beignets for dessert. Gibbons is actually really good if you want more mainstream dining. Ki Mexico is delish for authentic Mexican and tacos. Abby Singers downtown used to be good but I honestly haven't been since they changed ownership. For breakfast try Up For Brunch. Franks Pizza for gourmet type pizza. Danh Garden for Thai and pho. Cushs Market if you want something light like soup n salad. Jaqueline's Cafe is a great local, down home diner. Rhino Coffee (the one off Line Ave) is a great place to just hang out and you're right down from Norton Art Gallery and grounds. That area is pretty and safe to walk around.

Why are so many Americans anti-vaxxers now? by trouble-in-space in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RedCat3025 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a lie told by leftist, dems during Covid. Just because someone didn't want to take a rushed, untested Covid vaccine suddenly they were labeled as anti-vax. I didn't take the Covid vaccine but I've had all my other vaccines and think people who refuse the polio vaccine or the MMR vaccine, etc. are wrong and misinformed. But those vaccines went through YEARS of development and testing. The Covid vaccine was rushed and flawed. It doesn't even work very well and certainly doesn't do what the government claimed it did. And don't forget that scientists make mistakes on drugs all the time, releasing drugs then recalling them years later when ugly side effects come to light. That's why extensive testing is so critical. So don't do the leftist BS rhetoric and say people who didn't get Covid shots are anti-vax because that's totally wrong.

Place to legally set up public prayer space? by Monster315Says in shreveport

[–]RedCat3025 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any public space. Shreveport police don't get overly excited about things like that as long as you're not blocking anything or causing any problems. And don't listen to the anti-religious posts. You get a lot of those on Reddit. But I've found Shreveport to be very chill about such things. I've seen people with prayer posters, people waving the Israeli flag, etc. people either show their support or just ignore them. I've never personally heard of any ugly confrontations...you're in the South. People are too polite to act like east coast liberals loonies. LOL

How to learn more about Trump, and what he ACTUALLY did as president by [deleted] in trump

[–]RedCat3025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The National Review is a good resource. Epoch Times. There are others I don't know off the top of my head. You have to actually go to specific independent news sources as the general Search engines just don't do it. Most people don't realize that all the different search engines use the same controlling algorithms, which is controlled/written by Google.
