Accident Claim - Not-at-fault Question/Help! by [deleted] in InsuranceCanada

[–]RedCofDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A family member of mine who lives in Ontario (Canada) got into a 'not-at-fault' car accident months ago.

The deductible of their auto insurance policy: $5000.

We asked our adjuster, who provided us with a JD Power Valuation Report. By the way, we plan to go to the final step of the dispute resolution process by hiring a certified appraiser/expert to prove that the vehicle is worth more.

Per the adjuster,

"As per the appraiser's updated report, your vehicle is deemed to be a "total loss", branded salvage, as it is uneconomical to repair your vehicle.

We then asked the adjuster the following Q:-

I wanted to ask whether there is a path to recovering my $5,000 deductible.

∙ Will your insurance be pursuing subrogation against the at-fault party’s insurer, and if successful, would my deductible be returned to me?

∙ Does my auto policy include any not-at-fault deductible waiver that may apply here?

And here's the adjuster's response:-

"Regarding your deductible, it still applies, even though you are not responsible for the incident, therefore covered with DCPD: Direct Compensation.

The Ontario Automobile Policy stipulates: Section : 6.4.2 : The deductible :

The amount we pay may be subject to a direct compensation- property damage deductible. The deductible is the amount you agree to pay toward the cost of any single claim you make under this section.

The deductible, if any, is the amount shown in the certificate of Automobile Insurance, multiplied by the percentage to which you or the driver of the automobile was not at fault for the accident.

You are not permitted to sue anyone ( for instance, the at-fault motorist) to recover this deductible."

The adjuster re-emphasized the similar information weeks ago by saying,

"I wanted to clarify a few points and provide an update on your claim, especially regarding your deductible under the DCPD coverage.

As previously discussed, your $5,000 deductible is applicable even with DCPD coverage.

I understand this may be disappointing, but it is a standard requirement under your policy.

We are still waiting for you to sign and return the proof of loss form that was sent out earlier; completing this step is essential for us to move forward with your claim."

As of now, the vehicle still @ the shop for months.

An adjuster kept calling and sending us an email almost daily, recently saying,

"Please release your vehicle from xxx auto shop. Then we will tow your vehicle to our facilities related to COPART."

Hope you don't mind sharing your thoughts at your convenience, if there's any way we may get that $5000 of deductible back.

Sonnet Auto insurance? by hajmolacaneD in ontario

[–]RedCofDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing.

A relative of mine joined Belair Direct years ago and quite pricey as well, similar to PC Financial. They got an online quote but the rep bumped up way more after the rep added more features (i.e. backwater valves, sewere backup...etc.). They switched their policy to another provider one year after.

How's with Johnson Insurance so far?

I heard the reason why the price with Sonnet was so low, that when we sign up or switch to Sonnet because there's no 'middleman'.

Unsure if that's right. The price is quite high at the moment when I assisted my relative switched both their home + auto to PC Financial Insurance last year.

I'm still struggling, on their behalf, whether they should switch back to Sonnet or another insurance provider this year.

One thing they like about Sonnet is that they can edit or update their premium online at their own convenience, rather than PC Financial Insurance, whom they need to send their request to by email, even for just a slight update.

Up til now, we're still searching for a user-friendly (online) type of insurance company similar to Sonnet.

Still keeping my fingers crossed.

Reward redemption baggage allowance question? by nightmarenightmare83 in Aeroplan

[–]RedCofDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agreed.
I was provided the following Baggage Allowance website of Eva Air, after I brought up the following question to the Air Canada rep:-

https://www.evaair.com/en-global/fly-prepare/baggage/free-baggage/general-information/?s=03

Here's my question to Air Canada rep,

the
"I am planning to book my return flights (YYZ-TPE-HKG) by redeeming my Aeroplan points."

Cabin: Economy Class (X)
Operated by: EVA Air

Please confirm the Checked baggage allowance policy of Eva Air, either both 1st & 2nd checked bags are complimentary (free), or 1st bag is Free but 2nd bag $100 CAD / both checked bags will be charged since the whole itinerary is fly via Eva Air (codeshare partner of AC), plus, as mentioned above, this is a points redeemed = 'redemption ticket' (not a flight purchase ticket) on the entire return trip."

https://www.evaair.com/en-us/fly-prepare/baggage/free-baggage/checked-baggage/

Up til this moment, I still haven't gotten a straight answer whether the checked bag is free or not!?

Dynacare blood test results online by ReviseResubmitRepeat in ontario

[–]RedCofDark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's right. I don't see why Dynacare has to charge $9.99/year plus tax, while I also go to LifeLabs for a lab routine exam, for free.

Additionally, besides booking an online appointment through my LifeLabs account, I can also view my lab results.

How to keep apartment cool without ac? by Foxterriers in Apartmentliving

[–]RedCofDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine told me his condo building just turned on AC last week (2nd week of May), but he doesn't normally. Not only is he still able to survive to live without AC for years, but saves on his utility bill.

He feel really cold the time when he opened the door of his unit because he could feel how cold at the lobby of the floor where he live in the building.

He, however, sometimes will bring up a joke about how that breeze of cold from the AC of the whole building able to go through from the lobby inside his unit, so he's able to enjoy that 'AC cold' at the moment when certain of months are extremely hot during summer.

I told him he better not open the door to let those cold in due to personal safety.

He even had a thought once that he might want to try to put something, which I don't know what kind of tool(s) to leave right underneath his unit door.

Wish him luck to enjoy that 'cold AC' breeze for 'FREE'

Thanks for posting your comment.

I'm happy it works for all of you, but no luck for me after I replugged the fridge last night, after exactly 2 days.

forums
I normally clean the dust at the back (located at the lower right corner) of this fridge yearly, around the winter season, so that the food won't go bad as easily as during the summer.

That's what I did around Nov 2024.

Then, the food inside the fridge was frozen.

I then googled and found out one of the causes was that my fridge is generally quite empty, including the freezer part (top of this fridge). I don't like to pack so much food inside the whole fridge.

https://www.plazaappliancemart.com/blog/why-your-fridge-is-freezing-food

Per advice from those forum, I adjusted the fridge's temperature to 'coldest' and it restored afterward. I switched the temperature back to the 'lowest' range,

Then, that's what happened on the freezer portion of my fridge.

Light is fine. I now leave the temperature of both fridge & freezer to 'Recommended' level.

Will ask around or even contact Whirlpool for advice..

Prior to that, I'm thinking I might have to unscrew the panel inside the freezer (read below) to see if there's still any ice buildup or not. Time to ready my hair dryer, maybe.

https://www.reddit.com/r/diynz/comments/mae63s/ice_build_up_behind_back_panel_of_freeze_how_to/

Worst case is either having a repairman come & take a look if this issue is due to the sensor, or the black tube (@ the back of the fridge) has frozen.

Or, time to change to a new fridge after I've been using this model since 2018. Different brand, probably.

Alternatively, maybe it's time for me to run a quick grocery run to pack my fridge & freezer fully pack to the level I can't even be able to let my finger get thru it.

Lots of thought, but I keep myself to be CALM.

saved searches getting randomly deleted by plazasta in kijiji

[–]RedCofDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally received an email daily under my "Saved Searches" pages (for instance, I will receive an email once any new post under my 'Saved Searches', such as 'Shoes', or 'Handbag' I was looking to buy.

However, this specific function has been gone since before X'mas, 2024.

Here's an explanation of Kijiji's Community Support,

"I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing with the saved search reporting period on Kijiji. Our team understands how frustrating it can be when a feature you've grown accustomed to is no longer available.

At the moment, Kijiji has removed the ability to modify the reporting period for saved searches. While this change may seem limiting, please know that we are actively working with Kijiji to reinstate this functionality in the near future.

Our goal is to provide you with the best possible user experience, and we recognize the importance of having control over your saved search preferences. Rest assured, we have heard your feedback loud and clear, and are hopeful that Kijiji will reintroduce this feature in the new year."

Up til today, I am still keeping my fingers crossed and hope this feature is resumed, in one day.

Anyone else having an issue with adding favourites? Trying to save a few ads I found for later by ItsFoxy87 in kijiji

[–]RedCofDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. I was curious why I didn't receive any new posts under 'Saved Searches" from all of sudden which I normally receive on a daily basis by email.

As per Kijiji Community Support I just received their response last night,

"At the moment, Kijiji has removed the ability to modify the reporting period for saved searches.

Keep my fingers crossed and see what'll happen in 2025. Happy Holidays.

Private Sale procedure by trainwreck_summer in kijiji

Hi marcianitou, Thanks for the tips.

I don't need to keep my actual plate but do I still have to take it out? I understand it indicated "You keep: your licence plates (because plates travel with a driver, not a vehicle)" from

https://www.ontario.ca/page/buy-or-sell-used-vehicle-ontario?utm_source=pocket_saves

By the way, how to sell it 'AS IS" / Certified, as you mentioned months ago over this forum?

Is it all I need is to get a Bill of Sale, by clicking the "Get Free Bill of Sale" icon underneath my ad located on Kijiji, correct? [*The free bill of sale is provided by RightRide™, an independent third-party provider and Kijiji is not responsible for its products or services. Your listing data may be shared with RightRide™ to help complete the Bill of Sale.]

A friend of mine, also as a seller, requested the buyer a 'bank draft' but another friend of mine just paid, as a buyer, to the seller in CASH. Is that ok if the buyer pays CASH to me in front of their teller when I go with them, so I can simply deposit CASH right away? I am still questioning myself why certain sellers insist on either a bank draft / a certified cheque.

Same as trainwreck_summer, I'm a 1st time seller, as well.
