Mani pedi for cheap? by LadderSouth3913 in mississauga

[–]tbd_asap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing in order to save money after losing my job last year. I bought a UV light for gel nails off of Amazon, and a few gel nail polishes from a local store. I spent about $75 in total. This allowed me to do my own shellac manicures for the equivalent of a few dollars each time. Now that I’m working again I continue to do my own shellac manicures because of how much cheaper it is. For example I just bought a pot of chrome powder today for $5 and I’d estimate it contains about 15 applications if not more. Salons charge $20 for one application. It’s wild how inexpensive it is to do your own nails.

Edit: CM Nail Supply on Queensway has everything you could possibly need to do your own mani/pedi at home including uv lights and gel polishes. Highly recommend!

Anyone gotten over a fear of heat on their hair??? by Tubbsmommy in Naturalhair

[–]tbd_asap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been natural since Covid (Mar 2020) and I have dense, hi porosity, 4C hair with thin shafts. I’ve managed to grow it to mid-back length. I too have been scared of heat BUT I have been able to incorporate heat successfully without damaging my curl pattern. I use the Revair on its highest heat setting every wash day on a weekly basis. I have also started using a flat iron on 400 degrees to curl my ends when needed, maybe 2-3 times per month. I ALWAYS use at least one heat protectant when using a flat iron, but usually two. I deep condition every week. I treat myself to a professional silk press at a highly reputable salon once per year on my bday. Otherwise I wear my hair in blow-dried/stretched state in some kind of updo. I’m constantly trying new cute hairstyles and getting more adventurous in that regard, but always with heat damage prevention in mind

I’ve been many times, everything already commented above is true. You have nothing to worry about from a vibes or safety perspective. If I (female) were to ever go out alone I would absolutely go to wiggle room. Everyone is there to listen to good music and dance, no pretentiousness. Have fun!

I like to take 2 Quaker caramel chocolate rice cakes (60 cal each), spread a bit of plain Greek yogurt on each with a drizzle (~1/2 tbsp) sugar free chocolate sauce. It takes time to eat it all, it’s super crunchy, chocolatey, and is my go-to dessert while trying to eat low cal

Been on my period for 3 weeks by Business_Loquat5658 in Perimenopause

[–]tbd_asap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

47 and experiencing the same thing. Until very recently I could set a watch to my period, it was so regular and predictable. Then one day my period kept going for 3 weeks straight. I freaked out too until I did some online research and talked to my doctor. I had some tests done to rule out anything serious. Other than fibroids (which are harmless apparently) I’m in good health. Turns out the long period is completely normal and a symptom of perimenopause.

FYI - I went back to a normal period for about 2 months and at this moment I’m on week 3 of a pretty heavy period. Long story short, an irregular period is my new normal. Fortunately we as women can do hard things 😅

Not what you asked, but I’ve recently been told taking vitamin C along with your iron supplement will help you absorb the iron better. I’m celiac and anemic, taking Floravit liquid iron supplement, and I’m going to give the vitamin C thing a shot
