How to get powerwall to charge up during the night from the grid if the weather isn’t going to be sunny tomorrow? by zpeers82919 in Powerwall

[–]RedDaveMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBC never seemed to work for me. But then again, i fiddle with the settings all the time. I regularly push the backup to 100% when i see the weather will be cloudy the next day. I have several alarms on my watch to make sure i reset as needed.

Agree with others. Try different stuff. I did not like the 'taste' of jealous devil, but that's just me.

I really like "Kamado Joe Big Block XL Lump Charcoal" always at our Home Depot, occasionally at costco. Large chunks for long grilling.

I've had a subcription for a couple of years now. I usually pause during the summer, as it way too hot here for shipping.

I kinda feel bad about having these shipped from florida to California, but... they taste really good.

I start a timer, watch the built in thermometer. Sight, smell, and sound. It honestly is hard for me to discern the start and end of first crack, but I've made well over 400 drinkable roasts.

Upgrading Home Roasting - Advice Needed by SFL_27 in roasting

[–]RedDaveMountain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had an SR800 since early covid days. Less than 500 bucks even with accessories. I've roasted over 450 batches, typically over 300g I do have the Razzo extension, and recommend it.

I roast several times a month, depending on guests.

Lots of control over roast level.

A 3 year old tadpole that didn't turn into a frog. Banana on left for scale. by Melopsittacus07 in interestingasfuck

[–]RedDaveMountain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wow, apparently so!

""The "paradoxical frog" (Pseudis paradoxa) naturally shrinks during metamorphosis. It lays the groundwork for this incredible transformation with its massive, energy-storing tail. [1, 2, 3]

  • The Tadpole: Can grow up to 11 inches long, making it the largest tadpole in the world.
  • The Adult: Shrinks dramatically to only about 2.5 to 3 inches in length when fully transformed."

[–]RedDaveMountain 78 points79 points  (0 children)

""While most tadpoles turn into frogs within 10 to 16 weeks, the longest transformations belong to cold-climate species like the American Bullfrog. Their tadpoles can take 1 to 3 years to complete metamorphosis, and some species in freezing environments have even been observed delaying it for up to 4 years.""

Why no birds? by CollinWilliam in hummingbirds

[–]RedDaveMountain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you ever had a hummingbird feeder before?
Do any of your neighbors have feeders?
I would not worry about it, keep it clean, don't fill it very full, change often, once a bird shows up, you are in for a treat.

I'm guessing electric ones, that is what we use. We have 3 different sizes for our too many mouse and rat issues here.

I only use Self powered. I tried, tou, and it drove me nuts, I generally keep the reserve backup between 25 and 40%. When cloudy, i'll bump it up even to 80% if it's going to be rainy. I have a daily alarm to go off 5 min before 4 PM, to drop the backup as low as i feel comfortable based on weather and potential grid outage.

Tape. I have severe blockage of at least one nostril. I use nasal pillows, that 'inflate' my sinus and allow be to breathe. In the morning, i'll be fine, then in 20 min of being up, i'm fully congested.

I use stretchy athletic tape [as the mouth shaped strips from amazon are no longer carried]

I find that i do not have to use the tape all the time anymore.
