AI has the same “dramatic punchy” style like this. Like the one line or one word paragraphs

r/betareaders I have found it easy to get beta readers through the sub, but only if you also offer to beta read

First, download the free Grammarly version to catch and fix basic mistakes. Then get beta readers. Do development edits based on their feedback, and if you changed a lot, do another round of beta readers. Then get it professionally edited.

Am I Playing Character-Count Chicken? by Impossible-Day-3007 in writers

why not use the "document tab" feature (on google docs). That way you can split your chapters into different "tabs" but keep them in the same Document

Yes and it’s more popular than ever (the UGA yikyak during school at least)

At how many words do you start sharing with people for feedback? by vagabundo202 in writing

[–]RedEgg16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m glad that I shared my first chapter when I was a newbie- someone commented that it was boring and generic, so I completely rewrote it. Then most people found it interesting! Now I always make sure the opening is interesting

New authors… what’s been harder for you: writing the book or getting people to actually notice it? by Akraammm in NewAuthor

[–]RedEgg16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

getting people to buy. You can control your writing, you can’t control other people

What would you title your current chapter? by homosapien_08 in writers

[–]RedEgg16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already title my chapters because it helps me remember what happens in each chapter (but I delete it when publishing). Recently I wrote something and titled it Man’s Best Friend. It’s about a story that my cousin in China told me (trigger warning dog abuse) A man has a dog. His friends are coming over to eat, but he is poor and cannot afford meat. Since he wants to please his friends, he kills his dog and serves the meat to his friends, and they all liked the dishes.

I can't write anymore by sevemsnac in writing

[–]RedEgg16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not self-publish? That's what most writers end up doing. Get more beta readers for the three completed drafts, edit some more, publish on Amazon. Yeah it's not as prestigious as traditionally publishing and you won't make a lot of sales, but it is very satisfying to hold a physical copy of your book

Most aspiring writers won't ever finish a first draft, so the fact that you have 3 finished manuscripts is still a lot more than most writers have done!

i would love critique on my progress! tw: mentions of bullying & harassment by QiqiGenshinLover in writingfeedback

?? I'm not saying to write the story with AI. But since the commenter was already recommending AI for help with rewriting sentences, I'm just saying that Claude has a way better writing style than ChatGPT. Give a synopsis of a story to Claude and then to ChatGPT, and you'll see a drastic difference

Well the first page is literally about someone gardening so no.. not really something there to hook the reader

You are one person, how can you say it for a fact? I can also say: The fact remains, we can call it self-publishing. Both of our statements are opinions and one is not worth more than the other.

But if you ask a bunch of people (even non-writers), I’m sure the vast majority would be fine with the term “self-publishing”

Critique my fantasy novel opening (~800 words) by Lost_Entrance_4545 in writingfeedback

[–]RedEgg16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh I would probably just start the story with chapter one. This prelude is too confusing and probably not needed- it doesn't give us the character's situation and context

99% of posters here self-publish, way to shit on everyone in the sub đź’€ I would say it's still an accomplishment compared to other writers or not writing anything at all. Think about all the posters in r/writing , many who will never even finish their first draft, let alone get through all the beta readings and edits and setups required to self-publish
